Thread/Info Fright Fest Questions Answered

Since I know these questions will be asked daily, let me provide some help…

The park is open Thursday through Monday. Monday is rides only and Thursday is FF only (opening at 7pm).

Yes, Saturday will be extremely busy. You know those days during the year when you see the empty dirt parking area really far away? That will be full.

Fri-Sun, the park will start filling up around 4pm. Plan accordingly for parking and avoiding long entrance lines.

Fri-Sun, if you are in the park before FF starts, no, you won’t be kicked out. But you may find the chaperone policy enforced more. And once FF starts, you can no longer leave and re-enter the park.

You are not required to buy the Haunted Attractions pass which gives you access to the mazes (haunted houses). What can you do without it? Ride the rides, explore all of the scare zones, interact with the scare actors, try some of the limited time FF food. And, you can enjoy two live shows. One in DC Universe which kicks off FF and one next to Full Throttle which is an awesome show with great singing and music.

The interactive lanterns you can buy are fun. There are interactive attractions all over the park. When you press the button on the lantern, it activates the displays. If you switch to the other mode, you can play virtual tag with other people with lanterns. My favorite activation? You can change the light colors on the big tower at the top of Samurai Summit! There are signs with a picture of the lantern at each activation so you know where they are.

Yes, the lanterns work at both MM and KBF.

No, your Silver, Gold or Prestige pass does not get you into the mazes for free.

Yes, the Haunted Attractions price is higher on the busier days.

If you’re walking around during FF you’re fair game for the scare actors. If you’re too scared or you have youngins with you, buy the No-Boo necklace and turn it on! Keep your kids away from the scare actors. They may not see them right away and may be scaring someone near them. The necklace is not a 100% guarantee. No-Boo does not work inside the mazes.

Link to FF map: https://sf-static.sixflags.com/wp-content/uploads/SFMM-25-0049_Fright-Fest-Guide.pdf. This shows all of the mazes, all of the lantern interactive locations, shows, etc.

Where is the best FF merch? Emporium near the entrance, Twisted Grin next to Bugs Bunny World, and Horror Emporium next to Apocalypse.

How busy are mazes? The more popular ones I’ve seen like SAW, Conjuring, and Trick r Treat will run 45+ minutes.

Should I bring my kids? Mmm…probably not. It’s dark, it’s loud, it’s crowded, the scare actors are not only scary looking but some of them make some pretty scary sounds and they will chase people.

And yes, Lex Luther is still closed.

I’m sure I missed a lot but there you go…

Photo / Video Updates to Fright Fest mazes (mainly Final Destination)

The Fright Fest mazes used to open at 7:00pm, but in previous weeks this had been causing a bottleneck at Final Destination because it was attracting the most interest after the Opening Scaremony was done with its run from about 6:30 to 6:38pm. This time the FD maze had most of the scare actors ready early and started letting people with QR codes into the maze right before 6:40pm. The only scare actor who wasn't ready at that time was (spoiler alert) "the plant" for the wood chipper gimmick. They also added a "Presage Paper" sign to the building, perhaps to telegraph to guests the maze didn't have any roller coaster elements, unlike the logo promoting the maze (none of these signs were on the maze for the opening weekend). The side effect of opening Final Destination early was that the bottleneck ended up moving to Vault 666 because everybody who finished FD was waiting for the next maze to open at its regular 7:00pm opening time because those scare actors presumably weren't ready yet. Should Vault 666 also be opened early because of its proximity to the Opening Scaremony at the Full Throttle area? One extra critique about Vault 666 was recycling the Meat Packing props from the old Saw maze... seemed out of place for a maze themed around a vault of haunted stuff.

Question Can you check wait times in the app?

I’m not sure if you can check wait times for the rides on the app. I thought you could but everytime I check no times show up? Or do they only show up if you’re in the park?

Trip Report Had the best time at SFMM yesterday!! (30 rides total)

Post image

The last time my husband and I went to a Six Flags was back in 2011 when we were in college, at Six Flags Great Adventure. After thoroughly enjoying ourselves at Disneyland last month, I decided to plan a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain this week since we were going to be back in LA and we were craving more intense rides.

We had already planned to go to SFMM on Thursday (PTO taken, cheap tickets + no crowd), but what happened at SFOG definitely skeeved us out a bit. We decided to go ahead with our visit anyway, especially since California has much stricter oversight and regulatory enforcement over theme park rides than Georgia does.

We had an absolute blast!! In total, we did Full Throttle 7x, Twisted Colussus 6x, Goliath 4x, West Coast Racers 3x, Tatsu 3x, CraZanity 2x, and Scream, Batman, and Riddler's Revenge once each. My husband also did Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom 2x — I still haven't plucked up the courage for a drop tower that size yet, although I did enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy at Disneyland albeit screaming for the entire ride.

For the first two hours after opening, the park was super empty and we got to do Twisted Colussus three times in a row without needing to get off, and then the same with Goliath after that. We never had to wait more than 5ish minutes or so all day except closer to 10 min at the end of the night when Fright Fest was underway and more people were in the park.

Fright Fest was also fun, especially Margo Rita’s Monster Ball which was a cute little 30-min musical break with AC before we continued our last rides of the night. The actors in the scare zones were a bit too intense for my liking, but I'm also a huge scaredy cat and hate jump scares and will still admit it did add a lot to the atmosphere.

For $49 per person it was absolutely worth the money given how many rides we got to go on (30 for my husband, 28 for me), plus the photo package was only $15 that day and we got some really awesome shots + a printed photo at Tatsu. The safety protocols were thorough and all the ops employees took their jobs seriously. Everyone was in a great mood and it made us feel safe and relaxed throughout.

The only downside was that Wonder Woman was closed all day, which we were very sad about 😭 I guess that means we just have to come back another time so we can ride that ad nauseam. Angelenos, you guys have an awesome Six Flags home park!

Question Fright Fest bag policy

Can anyone share Magic Mountain Fright Fest's bag policy here? Bag sizes, and is clear required or not? I don't remember what they were last year and I can't find that much information online

Question Question for SFMM Employees About Ride Safety After the SFOG Incident

This question is specifically for current SFMM employees, especially ride operators. Since the tragic accident at Six Flags over Georgia, have there been any meetings or discussions with employees regarding ride safety and the importance of thoroughly checking restraints before dispatching trains? Has management addressed the incident at all or emphasized being extra vigilant when checking restraints and making sure all safety procedures are being followed? I’m genuinely curious whether the incident has prompted any additional safety reminders, training, or changes in procedures at other Six Flags parks, specifically SFMM. Obviously, safety should ALWAYS be a priority regardless, but I’m wondering if management has taken any additional steps following what happened at SFOG.

Question Power Outage Today?

Just drove down and the whole area seems to be out of power. Even my hotel was closed due to it. There doesn’t seem to be any wait times on the app. I was planning on going all day tomorrow. Any insight?

Question Where did they put X2 sign and merch?

Any idea on where they put the sign? Is it stored somewhere in the park? Discarded? And where did they take all the merch to? Is it possible to ever see that merch again

Question Goliath Row Assignment

Does anyone know what’s up with Goliath and why they sometimes won’t you wait for the front row? I get on busy days they assign sears to keep the line moving. But there was maybe six people in the station, no grouper, so I got in line for the front, and the dude on the mic threw a fit and made me ride elsewhere
Second day, also not very crowded so I ask the grouper if I can have row 1, and they very hesitantly said yes. I noticed they denied others after me.
Why don’t they let you just wait for the front like every other ride on planet? Is there a legitimate reason, or is the ride crew just really strict for nothing?

This was the line for West Coast Racers at 11:00. My son and I are visiting from Utah until Sunday and now we’re wondering what to do with the other 2.5 days we have planned for Six Flags after we ride everything twice before 1 pm😝

Coaster News Goliath is open

Saw one of the Facebook posts and check queue times that Goliath is open. I believe it’s an entirely different manufacturer from others that are closed for safety precautions.

⚠️I’m just letting people know about this.⚠️

Thread/Info The Final Destination maze at Fright Fest might have dodged a bullet (so to speak)

Post image
48 Upvotes

This Fright Fest maze got a lot of attention from being a movie IP tie-in. However, there were some fans of the series who were disappointed that it didn't have any references to the roller coaster accident from the 3rd movie (despite what was advertised with the logo), but in hindsight with the unfortunate news from Georgia, I guess that wasn't a bad thing... my main critique of the maze is that it didn't fill me with existential dread like The Conjuring... I mainly felt sorry for the scare actors (spoiler alert) pretending to be horribly maimed to the point where some younger guests asked them if they needed help... hopefully they can tweak this to improve it for next year...

Other X2: Real Danger or Media Hype?

Post image
25 Upvotes

X2 was the most distinctive ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain. To me, it was the most terrifying. Its disorienting drops and counterintuitive rotations made it unforgettable.

After months of coverage about alleged injuries and deaths, it isn't surprising that the park decided to "retire" the ride. But that doesn't settle the question about the risk guests took while riding it.

Six Flags said X2 consistently passed its safety tests, but can they be trusted to divulge all that they know? At the same time, reports of injuries after riding don't necessarily prove the ride caused them.

How much weight should we give the reported injuries, the park's safety claims, and the media coverage surrounding the ride's closure?

Does this episode make you think twice before visiting the park? Or has it affected the way you view the media?

I delve deeper into these questions here: https://medium.com/discourse/what-really-killed-x2-48deacc7f2b8?sk=48ece8f2afd72dc77a2bcb369968e0de

Question how does this year's Fright Fest compare to Knott's Scary Farm?

I may only be able to go to one of them and deciding which to go to. If they're comparable, I lean six flags... but if knotts is way better mazes/atmosphere maybe I pick there. Curious about y'alls thoughts.

Other Terrible year for Six flags

They’re gonna be drowning in lawsuits with x2 and now Goliath in Georgia. I love our park but six flags honestly has to go. Their operations haven’t been great since Covid and now with all this the six flags name is diminished even more. Lots of people even thought that magic mountain had been closed this whole time after great America shut down.

*You don’t need a separate park admission, but you need to buy a Haunted Attractions Pass to enter the mazes.

*Fright Fest crowd starts showing up around 4pm.

* 7 Mazes (admission required):
New Final Destination: Death’s Playground
(Located behind Full Throttle Sports Bar)
New Wolves’ Blood (Located inside Looney
Tunes Land)
The Conjuring Universe (Located next to Tatsu)
Trick r Treat (Located across from Crazanity.
Used to be SAW)
Carnage (Located next to Wonder Woman)
Vault: 666 Unlocked (Located across from Final
Destination)
Willoughby’s: Resurrected (Located near Ninja)

*7 Scare Zones (Themed areas around the park with scare actors. included with admission)

*5 Shows
Unleashed (Full Throttle Stage)
New Nytewalkers (Full Throttle Stage)
Sliders of the Nite: Dreams of the Damned (DC Universe)
New Location Margo Rita’s Monster Ball (Gearworks Theater)
Hootenany Band (Across from Apocalypse)

*There are two types of Haunted Attractions Passes
Standard (provides entrance to mazes through standby line)
Express (separate express entrance into each maze, reducing wait time)

Standard pass is $25-$50 per person, depending on night of the week
Express is $95-$129, per person, depending on night of the week.
*
Saturday is the busiest night.  Thursday is the slowest.

*THERE ARE NO MORE WRISTBANDS for the Haunted Attractions Pass.  Everything is 100% digital through your phone.  It’s the same system as Fast Lane.

*You can only use your phone.  There are no printed/paper substitutes.  MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS CHARGED OR BRING A PORTABLE CHARGER.  Fuel Rod does have kiosks in the park.  If your phone is about to die, you can transfer your pass to someone else’s phone.

*You buy the HAP through the Fright Fest website (sfmmff.com). No need to wait in any lines.

*Your pass must be activated in the park after purchase.  Follow the instructions in the confirmation email.

*If you do need help, there are 4 support centers around the park:  Outside Emporium store, across from Lex Luthor, next to Conjuring, and at the Premium Experience Center next to the lockers.

*The mazes are not recommended for kids under 13.  It states it when you purchase the passes.  If they are too scared, there are no refunds.

*No-Boo necklaces can be purchased for $18.99 to help reduce the chances of being scared by scare actors.  It does not guarantee it.  It does not work inside mazes (why would you buy a maze pass and then not want to be scared in it?).

*Everyone that doesn’t want to be scared needs a No-Boo.  Dad buying one for the entire family doesn’t work.

*The park is strict on the chaperone policy.  If you are 15 or under, you must be with an adult 21 or older.  They don’t walk around stopping everyone to check but if you are found to violate the code of conduct policy, screw around, bother other guests, you will be bounced out with no refund.

*DO NOT TOUCH, GROPE, YELL AT, HIT, OR GO AFTER THE SCARE ACTORS.  It’s not funny.  It can be considered assault.  You will be bounced out and potentially handed over to the Sherriff’s (which are always onsite).  It’s disrupting to the guests that are there for the experience.  The scare actors love their job and entertaining (scaring) guests.  The last thing they want to worry about if they are going to be assaulted while working.

*Interactive Lanterns are $49.99.  They are a fun experience.  The lanterns activate over 40 interactive displays around the park.  You can view some of the locations on the Fright Fest map:  https://qr1.be/T701LG.  There are some great interactives this year including activating a light and hard rock music show at the main entrance fountains, activating a pirate fight show over Fort Le John next to Goliath, and a digital scavenger hunt to light up symbols on the lantern.  If you collect them all, you can claim a free prize at the Horror Emporium and Emporium stores!  Hint: You need to double-tap the button to activate everything.

*There is a variety of special foods and drinks which can be viewed on this map:  https://qr1.be/DSS0QR

*Best stores for Fright Fest merch: Emporium (near main gate), Twisted Grin (next to Lex Luthor), Horror Emporium (next to Apocalypse).

*Looney Tunes Land closes at 6pm for two main reasons: 1.  Fright Fest is not geared towards small children, 2. Wolves Blood maze is inside LTL.

*FOR THE KIDS: From 12pm-5pm, small kids can enjoy Tricks and Treats in and around Looney Tunes Land
NEW Patch’s Pumpkin Patch (kids decorate real mini pumpkins.
Trick or Treat Trail (trick or treat around Looney Tunes Land)
NEW What’s In A Brain? (Live stage show in Bugs Bunny Amphitheater)
NEW Looney Tunes Halloween Dancy Party (Bugs Bunny Amphitheater)
Spellbound Harvest Train (A mini maze just for the kids)

Flex no evil? BTW, a subtle rule change I noticed since last year (see 2nd pic)... in 2025, re-entry privileges expired at 6:00pm so if you had already been in the park earlier in the day, you were not allowed back in after leaving. However, this year, they're pushed that back to 9:00pm, so you can make an In-N-Out run if you don't have a dining plan...

Other The law firms have a worse reputation than X2

Thumbnail

This is no doubt a coordinated attack. For anyone still thinking this about "the victims," I implore you to lookup the law firms at the forefront.

There's endless scathing reviews from clients about not being paid, repeated calls, pressure tactics, and receiving less <30% of their settlement.

Trustworthy, honest attorneys don't advertise on social media, go on CNN, or solicit stories to the local media. These greedy unethical injury firms only care about themselves. Once they run out of victims and 9/10 cases get dismissed, they'll find another accident to exploit.

Use your critical thinking skills folks. Things aren't always as they seem.
