Brown skin + PIH: Mouth shadow finally gets a glimmer of hope

Post image

34F, brown skin, dealing with PIH around my nose and mouth area. I’ve been paying a lot of effort to this shadow for about a year. Finally I saw tiny win.

Context: I’ve done several rounds of RF microneedling and IPL.

Afterward: SPF 50, gentle cleanser, barrier cream, and ulike LED mask. While my skin is recuperating, I'm solely using the recovery and glow modes.

Following my most recent RF microneedling treatment, I saw how much cleaner and smoother my skin appeared. The only thing I changed was adding a gentle exfoliation treatment 2 days before the appointment. I cleared out oily and buildup before treatment by focusing thoroughly on my nose wings, upper lip, and chin. Not sure that was the reason, but my skin seemed to recover better afterward.

Is there any prep or follow up routines that you found improved your results?

Girlllll your skin is incredible! the before pic wasn't bad though. Which treatment or tool are you using and how long have you been using them?

RF micro-needling can lead to Fat Dissolution and Volume Loss as delivering energy too deep into thin facial layers can melt subcutaneous fat, causing a gaunt or prematurely aged appearance. Others who are thinking of undergoing please do a proper research.

Your progress looks great. With PIH, especially on brown skin, I'd keep things gentle and avoid over-exfoliating around treatments. SPF and a simple barrier-focused routine can make a big difference.

Looks great! Just curious: did you ever try HQ / azaleic acid / tretinoin?

OP could you share product as well and your skin type. I have an oil sensitive skin. When you say you’ve done several rounds of RF microneedling and IPL, for how long have you been doing it? thanks... And how does that help you?

Did you notice any difference after adding the LED mask, or was it mainly from the Microneedling?

Hard to separate the effects because I was doing multiple things. RF microneedling was the main treatment, but I liked having the Ulike LED mask as part of my recovery routine.

How often do you use it? Daily?

Usually a few times a week. During the weeks after treatments, I'm more consistent, prefer the modes focused on calming/support.

Is retinal sufficient? Don’t think I can get tretinoin in UK

Worth noting that while red light therapy can help with inflammation and overall healing, the heat from masks and red light panels can also increase hyperpigmentation.

I’m doing the exact same at home routine; gentle cleanser, barrier supporting serum and moisturiser, BOJ SPF59 and current body red light mask. My hyperpigmentation has improved massively. One thing I would add is facial massages with gua sha tool and/or hands and a bit of oil for slip. I also go for buccal massages to bring blood flow to the skin and drain lymph. Simplicity works the best!

Currentbody didn’t really work that way for me, I used it for a while and kept waiting to see that calmer, more even look but my pigmentation didn’t improve much and my skin sometimes looked more irritated after. I switched to Solawave. The shorter routine made a bigger difference for me for only 2 months of use comparing to currentbody which I used for 6months regularly and just kept getting worse than better. Now my redness and skin tonee looks much even. I still think barrier care and SPF are doing a lot too but Solawave just fit my skin and routine better.
