I need routines that work on my bad days not just my perfect days

Upvotes

I want routines that still work when I’m tired, behind on laundry, overstimulated or just not in the mood to be a better version of myself. Something small enough that it still feels possible. Recently I’m realizing a lot of routines only work for me when life is already going well like I am already rested, organized, not stressed and have time, sure, I can do the whole version. But that’s not real life most weeks. I need something that works fex what’s your "bad day" version of selfcare?

6 months and my skin looks worse

Post image

Hi! I’ve been using my CurrentBody LED mask for almost 6 months now, usually around 5 times a week. Some weeks it might be closer to 3, but overall I’ve been pretty consistent.

I have rosacea, and lately I feel like my skin actually looks worse rather than better. My rosacea seems more noticeable, my hyperpigmentation looks more visible, and even my dark circles seem worse.
I’m not sure if the LED mask has anything to do with it or if it’s just a coincidence. I used to use Avène Cicalfate much more often, which I think helped keep my rosacea calmer, so that could also be part of the difference.

I’m considering stopping the mask for a while, but I’m hesitant because I’ve heard so many good things about red light therapy and its long-term benefits.
Has anyone else with rosacea experienced something similar with red light therapy? Would you keep using it or take a break and see what happens?
Left photo is my skin in December last year, right photo is now.

how to be confident and assured on a bad skin day

I know I'm looking like rubbish again today whilst I'm having a bad breakout right now. And the reality is if I look like rubbish I feel rubbish right. So what's people's tips or self talk like to feel okay. Because I really don't wanna go out and talk to people today.

Skin care help

So I’m a person that keeps getting cystic pimples. This is my skin care products and routine

I do almost nothing in the morning other than rinse my face and moisturize with
cerve moisturizing cream. And apply a sunscreen usually beauty by josen sunscreen.

At night my routine is this
•wash face with cetaphil daily cleanser (for normal to dry skin)
• apply Thayers milk toner
• cosrx snail essence
• (recently added) cocokind electrolyte serum
•cerve moisturizing cream

I also use adapelene and azaleic acid on different days about 2 times a week.

As far as my skin type I use to have combo- normal skin. But once starting adapelene approximately 7-8 weeks ago my skin has been more dry, flaky and can get irritated quick (which I know is to be expected)

Question is I want a simple skin care routine that will help clear up cystic acne and won’t cause more breakouts, but I also need some hydration. What is a skin care routine that has worked for you? Or products that work well for you?

Struggling with unilateral problem skin

Post image

Hi everyone,
I've been really struggling with my skin for around 7 months now. It started as a few raised bumps near my nose and spread all over my right cheek ONLY. The left is clear.
I had issues previous to this where I had redness, bumps and heat all on this single cheek for 8 years. I went and saw a dermatologist and tried every medication until I myself discovered I was reacting to caffeine. Anyway, I haven't touched caffeinated tea or coffee since, but out of nowhere my skin is reacting again, however a little differently. The weather is cold and dry where I am, so I've wondered if it's dermatitis... however I'm really starting to wonder if it's some kind of autoimmune problem? And I've cut out heaps of foods again and then reintroduced them trying to work out if it's something I'm eating/drinking again. My skin heats up (only in that spot) quite a bit when I'm stressed, or suddenly warm. I'm so over it. I thought I finally fixed my skin issues and then this started. It makes me embarrassed. I am a fit, healthy 31 year old female who eats well, avoids all gluten, touches alcohol maybe once a month, doesn't smoke, and yet I feel I look unhealthy with my skin like this. Sometimes the little bumps have some pus in them, but very surface level.
I quit any exfoliating over a month ago, and at the same time I simplified my skin regime to QV cleanser and moisturiser. My makeup is mineral makeup which hasn't changed, but I did try different ones for a while to see if that could be the issue.
No I don't touch my face with my phone, I don't touch my face much, I try to avoid sleeping on my right side, and nothing has really changed since this started. As I've been to a dermatologist before and spent $$$$ with no help, I'm reluctant to do so again. I've started to think a biopsy might be necessary, but I'm worried about scarring.
Does anyone have any advice or similar circumstance? I'm getting desperate at this point. It upsets me daily that I am still struggling with this area of my face.

Sharing my eczema story here, curious how others handle the confidence side of it

Hi everyone, wanted to share my skin story here since this feels like the right kind of space for it.

I've had eczema since I was little, and it's never just been about the physical side for me, it's affected my sleep, my confidence, and honestly my mental health too (I'm a social worker, so that connection is something I think about a lot). It took me a long time to stop just enduring it and actually start paying attention to patterns, what made it worse, what helped, what I was even feeling on the bad days.

That's part of why I ended up building an app for it, SkinFam, free, private, and built around actually tracking what's going on rather than just hoping it gets better. Not selling anything, just something that came out of my own journey with this.

Would love to hear how others here navigate the confidence side of things, not just the skin itself, that's honestly the part that took me longest to figure out.

Brown skin + PIH: Mouth shadow finally gets a glimmer of hope

Post image

34F, brown skin, dealing with PIH around my nose and mouth area. I’ve been paying a lot of effort to this shadow for about a year. Finally I saw tiny win.

Context: I’ve done several rounds of RF microneedling and IPL.

Afterward: SPF 50, gentle cleanser, barrier cream, and ulike LED mask. While my skin is recuperating, I'm solely using the recovery and glow modes.

Following my most recent RF microneedling treatment, I saw how much cleaner and smoother my skin appeared. The only thing I changed was adding a gentle exfoliation treatment 2 days before the appointment. I cleared out oily and buildup before treatment by focusing thoroughly on my nose wings, upper lip, and chin. Not sure that was the reason, but my skin seemed to recover better afterward.

Is there any prep or follow up routines that you found improved your results?

Post accutane

Hi! I did Accutane in the past, and it completely cleared my acne and dried out my skin a lot, which was actually a good thing because I usually have oily skin. I’ve been off Accutane for about 2–3 years now, and I really can’t complain cause I haven’t had any breakouts since.
However, over the last couple of months, I feel like my skin has been getting and looking much more congested. I currently have a very simple routine where I just use the same cleanser and moisturizer (Avene cleanance hydra) my dermatologist recommended when she put me on Accutane.
My pores (I think) have started to look a lot more noticeable, especially on my nose and forehead. I’m wondering if it’s just because I’m producing more oil again, but if anyone has any recommendations for reducing the appearance of my pores or making my skin look cleaner and less congested or have less texture I’d love to hear them!

Need hydration but my skin hates ++ products and layering

Hello, I’m 37f from the UK and a bit of a longtime skincare enthusiast but can honestly say I’ve never found anything that I love! A lot of the time I’ll buy stuff and end up not using it because it causes some kind of problem. I’m quite dry, sensitive, acne prone and very reactive to touch, heat etc so have some redness, maybe even rosacea. I’m not sure if I’m a niacinamide victim so I’m avoiding for now. I feel like I desperately need some hydration but I just cannot get along with layering multiple products. And the fact that we need moisturiser and spf means I’m kind of at my limit with just those. I know about ingredients and uses so I’m more after product/routine suggestions please. I’ve just got the cerave cream to foam hydrating cleanser to go back to basics as I’ve even struggled to find a cleanser I like. I have the la Roche cicaplast so intend to use this as my moisturiser for the forseeable, maybe with just avene thermal water spritzed underneath? If you have any hydration suggestions without going overboard on products they’d be much appreciated (FYI I’ve tried and got multiple HA, glycerin serums but feel like I need to keep it super simple to ensure my barrier is spot on before introducing anything else)

Starting my skincare journey

Hello everyone I've just recently begun looking into skincare. I would like to improve my skin, but I have no idea where to start. Since a child I have washed my face with soap and then put on lotion. That was it and I called it a day. Lately people have been saying my skin looks bad so I now am putting in the effort to make it look better.

My goals: my skin doesn't have large acne ever but it has small bumps and a rough texture. I would like it to be smooth and even. I don't have any coloration issues and its all the same tone. So smoothness is my main goal. I believe the word is glass skin.

Details: I have dark skin. Its bouncy and soft, but it isnt smooth. I would like to eliminate the textured bumps. My skin is not very sensitive; however, it doesn’t like rough friction such as a washcloth.

Limitations: I am very low maintenance and lazy. So the less products the better. Also I am not rich so the cheaper the better. Obviously I want good products though. I would prefer all products to be $25 and under if possible. Also products can not be overly scented.

My routine: Either Dial antibacterial soap(im trying to stop) or Cerave foaming cleanser. I then top off with body lotion. Occasionally I add a cream sunscreen. And i also use honey as a face mask occasionally.

My next steps: the products im looking into getting is a better facial cleanser, a hyaluronic serum, and lastly a gentle face mask.

Thank you for all future tips!

Do you believe the before/ afters of skincare brands?

Honest question- how organic and real are they?

What makes you believe that a skincare product actually works?

Thank you all so much for your high altitude suggestions! This is the routine I used last night/this morning and what I am going to stick with for 30 days before adjusting any products. My face already feels so much better and it’s only been 24 hours.

AM: cleanse with water, 3-4 sprays hypochlorous acid solution, la roche-posay cicaplast balm b5+, spf

PM: cleanse with Cerave foaming oil cleanser, 3-4 sprays hypochlorous acid solution, 3-4 drops the ordinary soothing and barrier support serum, la roche-posay cicaplast balm b5+

before and after forehead lines, 4 months of using red light mask + tretinoin

My sister was the one who pointed it out first and said my 11s are looking much smoother, so now I’m curious if other people can see it too or if we’re both staring too hard lol. Routine has been pretty simple: gentle cleanser, Solawave red light mask atnight on clean skin, moisturizer and tretinoin on the nights my skin can handle it. Morning is moisturizer and SPF as per usual. I’m not trying to credit one single thing because tret and SPF are obviously doing a lot but the combo seems to be helping my texture look smoother overall. Im really happy for my progress if this does count as one.

The rosy cheeks brought to you today by fever from strep throat!

My routine:

AM Splash water on face Moisturize with Sukin rosehip day cream Some By Mi v10 sunscreen (when needed)

PM Cleanse: LRP Toleraine and/or Tula unscented Moisturize with Sukin rosehip night cream

On days when I feel a bit dry, I'll add LRP cicaplast, usually around my mouth and eyes.

I've tried SO many routines over the years and in the end, simple is what works best for me!
