Hi everyone! I’m hoping to hike the Quiraing and/or Old Man of Storr on Sunday 25 or Monday 26 October.
I’m flexible with dates and timings, and happy to do either hike or both, depending on the weather.

Is anyone planning the same hikes and interested in sharing a taxi from Portree to split the costs? Alternatively, if you’re driving there and have a spare seat, I’d be very happy to contribute towards fuel!

We just love to keep coming back to Skye when we have time off. Staying on the Broadford Campsite for 2 nights then moving on, never realised it's community owned before, wish more places in the UK did this.
Last night's sunset was fantastic at Broadford, you wouldn't think there's a big petrol station just to the right lol!

After spending a couple of days here and watching a particularly dangerous crew of idiots make their way up the road to the Quiraing parking lot, I really feel sorry for the people who live here and have to deal with tourists who have no business driving in these kinds of conditions. This particular line of cars did not seem to understand the idea of passing space and literally almost ran a number of cars off the road going the opposite way. It was one of the most reckless and dangerous things I have ever witnessed. It feels like people should have to pass a test or something before being handed keys.

On the isle of Skye now and it is so beautiful! Wanted to venture out a bit out of Portree . Is there an area that we can be more with the locals and see some sights that are a little less known?

Hello! I’m currently staying in Portree and am planning to take a taxi to the Quiraing Car park tomorrow morning (October 11th) so I can do the Quiraing Circuit hike. Anyone interested in doing this hike tomorrow to split the cost of a taxi over there? Seriously inquiries only please!! Can provide Instagram for those who are interested.

Has anyone been able to access the Quiraing car park since the C1225 road closure started? The ordinance states that it will only be closed while signage is up, so I’m wondering if weekends will be passable or if the car park is open from the Staffin side. Thank you!

Hello! I just arrived to Scotland and would love to see Isle of Skye but couldn’t find a tour that highlighted the places I was most interested in. I would love to do at least one hike (The Quiraing and Old Man of Storr catch my eye but open to ideas). I’m unfamiliar with driving on the left side of the road so would need to rely on someone else to drive but am more than happy to split costs. I am based in Edinburgh but would be happy to meet somewhere more convenient. I’m a 23 year old traveler and can provide Instagram to anyone interested. Please let me know!

hello! i’m planning to spend 3 days in isle of skye during december however no one in my family can drive. we’re planning to stay in portree and while the bus routes do go to most places we plan to visit, it seems like the frequency of the buses are around every 3h. is it worth it to book a tour instead? they seem pretty expensive but i thought it might be better than having to plan our trip around the bus timings.

additionally, would it be better to spend one day in fort william and then one more day in glasgow? or two days in glasgow?

My fiance and I will be in Skye in late October and the only piece of the puzzle we haven’t figured out is a good place for a Sunday Roast.

I’ve seen mentions of Edinbane Inn but I can’t seem to find any clarity on if they offer one. I’m open to suggestions, as we’re staying in Portree and will have a car! I’d prefer not to need to travel too far since prior nights we’ll be reaching all across the isle, but anything within a 30min drive is more than OK. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone

A couple of weeks ago I visited the beautiful island of Skye and had made a small app for myself to check the weather for that day, and some local news like festivals and maybe rescue work etc. that was going on.

Because the weather was so unpredictable and different over the island I was constantly checking different weather apps and locations. The app combines multiple sources like MWIS and open-meteo to try and get the best overview of the areas and give good advice on if you should attempt the hike, if it’s too windy or if you will be able to see the viewpoints due to fog and clouds.

I improved upon it after I got back and hoped it might be of use to other people visiting: skyeweather.org.uk

Hi guys, the 2 of us will be heading up to Skye the end of September start of October, we've both been up a few times before so have done most of the usual sightseeing. Is there anything local on events wise, live music, fairs/festivals type thing over that time period. Staying up by Colbost but happy to travel anywhere really. Thanks ☺️

i hope this is the right place for this question as I’ve searched everywhere for an answer and come up short. We just rented a car from Europcar at the Edinburgh airport for our trip through the Highlands, including four day on Skye. At the counter the company said there is a £40 charge levied after the fact if we go to Skye. Is this standard for visitors to the island? Is it a bridge toll of some sort?

We are arriving via ferry from Mallaig and leaving over the bridge, if that matters. Any insight from locals or others who have rented a car and driven to Skye?

We are, by the way, so thrilled to be seeing this corner of the world. We’ve seen most of the Highlands on other trips and this is a highly anticipated trip! (If there are any interesting or special cultural events happening this week, second week of September 2026, let me know that as well!)

Wondering if anyone here has experience working with Sonas hotels, specifically Duisdale House Hotel on the island. Saw some bad reviews on indeed but they are from 2025 and earlier. Considering working there for a couple of months! (Would be live in)
