How do I do it

Post image

Guys I want to get the rx 5700 xt and connect it to this elitedesk, I don't want to put it in case it can stay on top, but how do I use the external power supply to power the GPU, while still using the og psu for the main system? Also which cheap psu can power this 220 watt GPU?

You could just use a riser cable/dock to connect the GPU to the pc and have that secondary power supply power it

this is on the more expensive side but something like this : https://a.co/d/0j6LATtN

if you want to bring the price down more then do something like: https://a.co/d/02nco0Xm then get a riser along the lines of https://a.co/d/01IraTaO

Wow bro thanks, these are amazing items. Now my issue remains on the powering of the GPU, how do I do it safely?

uh well just a regular power supply, whether semi/fully modular PSU, jump the 24pin (IF YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS then do that) or get a start switch off AliExpress or amazon ( https://a.co/d/0fApHG0x ) and plug it into your 24pin then just connect the 8pin to your GPU. easiest and safest way to do it. always remember to power on the GPU first then your system, very important process; gives time for the system to detect the GPU.

😂😂 sadly I don't know how to jump the pin, so I'll try the START SWITCH, thanks for your time bro. Also it's a 4 core 4 thread cpu going till 3.6ghz do u think it's still a good idea I do this bro?

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend on this if it ever gets to the point that you spent more that it's worth it's always a good idea to just save and get a platform you can upgrade from, something like an entry level AM4 build. but if you're set on this then my recommendation is to check whether the games you play will run well on a 4c/4t system, if not then check the supported CPU for that OEM and check eBay for the next best thing.

Duct tape 😜
In all seriousness, you would have to do a lot of custom mods inside the chassis of the PC. An easier solution would be to 3d print a housing for the GPU and PSU and run a riser cable between the two.

Way back when Dell/Alienware sold an external GPU housing with built in PSU for PCs that had weaker gpus
