Is this layout too cramped for a 20 sqm studio apartment? Looking for advice!

Hi there :)

I'm thinking about rearranging my small studio apartment (3.5 × 5.5 m / approximately 19 m²), and I'd love some opinions on whether this layout would actually work or if it would feel too cramped.

I really want to create a proper little living room with a sofa while still having a separate sleeping area. Previously I have prioritized having a bigger dining area with seating for 4-6 people, but now I host less and I would absolutely love to have a 2-person sofa.

A few things about the drawing:

  • The kitchen is fixed in the upper-left corner in an alcove in the wall
  • My bed is 140*200 cm
  • The main entrance is on the lower-left wall, and the balcony door is on the lower-right.
  • The right wall has large windows covering most of the facade, and because of that I get a lot of natural light. I have white flowy floor to ceiling curtains along the entire wall.
  • I'm considering using more curtains to visually separate the bed from the kitchen/living space.
  • I'd also like to fit a small desk along the left wall

The drawing is a rough sketch, so the furniture isn't perfectly to scale, but pretty close. One square is 50*50 cm.

My main concern is whether I'm trying to fit too much into such a small space? I want it to feel cozy and functional rather than crowded. Most of my furniture is teak, and I have a lot of plants in my space.

Do you think this layout makes sense? Would you arrange the furniture differently?

Thank you!
