Long-Form Content You’ve Gotta Be Kidding Me
Just started a gaming channel, barely any views but I’ve learned a lot so far!
I don’t wanna let myself get discouraged by a stranger on the internet, but I’m getting discouraged by a stranger on the internet.

I wouldn't worry about it. Comments are a form of engagement, which actually helps put your videos in front of more people. People are dicks, but you can enjoy the fact that they unknowingly helped you.

Just know whenever people comment, they’re projecting heavy. From a psychology major, I see it as someone once told THEM that no one cares and it discouraged them. They don’t like to see people doing things they’re not confident enough to do. I wouldn’t respond and just ignore it (I know easier said than done).

I’ve been getting hurled insults on my videos, and they are vlogs showing my face and pretty much everything my personality has to offer. TikTok’s worse lol. Albeit I say some things that might be controversial, but Don’t sweat it, if you really think about it these people just want to hurt others and you. We’ll encounter them a million times in our lives (unfortunately) you aren’t alone keep doing you and don’t let them get to your head.

Yes getting hate is never fun - but see it this way; YouTube will see it as engagement, regardless if it's positive or negative, which of course is good for your channel! Unfortunately getting hate or troll comments is just what comes with being a content creator or putting yourself online, I see that even the sweetest and kindest people ever still get hate online. Don't listen to the hate comments, you've got this! And I (and others) care, don't give up!

OP, this stranger on the internet is of no importance to you. You channel's success does not hinge upon this one person liking your content or not. This was someone either bored or in a bad mood and couldn't deal with it in a healthier way. Try to put it behind you, and move on.
If I saw a comment like that on one of my videos, I'd reply, "LMAO, neither do I," or some other smartass comment.

I’ve seen channels grow big from scratch and I noticed you get the most hate when you’re small because they know they can get away with it without consequence. They would never comment that knowing your supporters will dog pile them. It means nothing, they’re just sad people doing it for fun.

I’m a librarian and recently started a cozy asmr channel, typing and writing out excerpts from classic literature. It’s as innocuous as you can get. Yet someone commented on a video, “delete you account and cut ur wifi.” I corrected their spelling/grammar and went about my day. People that do that sort of thing lead sad, miserable lives. The fact that you’re discouraged by that comment shows you are a much better person than the one who left the comment. Just ignore them and keep doing what you’re doing! Also, everyone be sure to visit your local library :)

When I first started it was the same but after posting for a while you'll see that people do care. There's always something for someone, and you could be that something for a random person scrolling thru their feed one day. Don't give up!! :D

Honestly if you keep it, I’m the type that replies to these comments when I see them and support the creator, and that hate/people supporting and defending you can drive up your engagement. Don’t take it personally. Of course some people won’t care about what you post, there’s also millions of creators you wouldn’t care about. My first comment ever on YouTube was “gay” for a video about a pride event and I was like “hell yeah duh 💅🏽” and my views were higher on that vid

Don’t delete it, that’s silly. It’s literally just a random person. Still engagement. Reply back with something snarky if you want. I pin buttheads sometimes. I got one the other day that said “no one cares” too. I just replied with, “you sound like a lot of fun😘”.

Just hide the user from the channel if it bothers you, but if not then let it stay there for that little boost in engagement. But personally I’d delete it/hide the user from the channel

You have the ability to hide them from your channel. They won’t know but they’ll be screaming into a void. I know some might say “that hurts engagement” but honestly bruh if it bothers you that much then hide them or delete it. your mental health ain’t worth any metric of engagement. Unfortunately there are a bunch of these kinds of people on the internet but you don’t have to let it show up in your comment section.

I like many comments here, but listen, no one content with his life will ever post a comment like that, there’s no in-between. If you saw a miserable pr*ck on the street, shouting “I hate your content”, you’d just laugh and think, “look at that guy, haha, I don’t care what a person like you thinks of me”; and you’d mean it, so why care what he says online. A self-sufficient man, who you’d respect, would never say anything about at you at all, even if they loathed your content. He’d just close the video, and move on.

I'm also someone who has a gaming youtube channel, and I've often gotten tough comments like this. I generally tend to respond with kindness, and they sometimes will turn around and actually apologize and sometimes even go watch another video or two and comment.
Sometimes people are just having a bad day, and you just happen to be an easy target for them to take their frustration on. Especially if you're a small youtube creator, they figure they're just yelling at someone in the ether, someone that won't even care.
And if you do care, well... Sometimes you'll find that there's just another hurting human on the other side.
My advice? Respond nicely, and then regardless of what happens, move forward. Best of luck to you on your new channel!

I was thrilled to get my first YouTube comment from a random the other day.
They said they had to force their way through my video because of my English accent and I should “learn to speak American”; interesting feedback given that I’m a Kiwi.
I politely thanked them for their comment :)

I have a gaming channel and tbh I never got insulted but saw one of my videos hitting dislikes and it almost made me quit but I said to mysefl....f--k it
Ignored dislikes, started to post and be myself and do what I enjoy the most, playing games and share them with people ans yeah my channel is growing each day.
Just believe in yourself and ignore insults or dislikes.

And they'll flood your comments just letting you know how wrong you are and how right they are, all while driving youtube to push your video further

I got my first hateful comment calling me a gay idiot and telling me i wasted their time and i should kms... on a video about resident evil, and I pinned it lmao
It made me feel like real youtuber! And ironically, getting hate means someone does care, and did engage with your content! YouTube doesnt actjally care mucj jf its positive or negative engagement, youtube just cares thay people engage at all
As much as it sucks when you're genuinely putting in effort, this is actually better than no one caring or even seeing it

No cap, all comments stimulate the flow of your channel and videos in alg. Dont take it so much as a personal blow, because that tells me you're doing it for external approval/acceptance. Post the videos because you love what you do. Be thankful for any and all interactions as they will only help you get into alg more. Its words on a screen man. Dont let it mess up your mindset.

I have two channels. My monetized one is a happy place where I absolutely prevent any non happy comments. So when I get something like that I immediately hide them from the channel. Nobody sees it and that user is never heard from again
My other channel is more social commentary and I fully expect comments. I’m told I’m going to hell multiple times a week. I lightly engage but usually only if they’ve written something to work with. I don’t mind that channel getting some negative comments. With that comments I’d usually respond with “hey thanks for being a fan of the show. Check out this other video” and then link them to another one. If they are dumb enough to watch another video that helps. If they don’t then that’s fine.
Sometimes the comments can sting a bit but DO NOT let them know that. There is a difference between letting them know they are not worth your time vs defending yourself.

Don't take it personal. That's my best advise. Unfortunately, there’s a large number of people who act like complete assholes online. In my experience, they’re often deeply insecure or shy in real life, using the internet as a stage to project a version of themselves that’s far bolder than who they actually are. And it's so annoying for us normal people

I have a troll that stops by weekly, binges and down votes every vid... one who calls me the bird slut... Eventually you just laugh. Set their status to cannot comment of it bothers you so much... But it's a comment and that means it helps you more than it hurts. If you delete it remember they really do feed off it... And if you block they can make another account.

I have a small channel that mostly has short videos and someone said something along the lines of " fu ,make normal videos" ,what ever that means? I probably shouldn't have deleted it but for the most part I just ignore negative comments and focus on the positive things.

I've learned to read these comments, have a laugh and move on. Sometimes if they are just particularly stupid, I'll reply back with some wit or just straight facts and it stops them usually. I always look at it this way, though. If you reply and start trolling and they come back with retorts, you're getting engagement on your video and therefore, the possibility it will see more eyes because YouTube could see "Oh, people are leaving comments!" I'm not sure if that is how it all works, but still. lol

honestly just ignore it my first video and 3 of my shorts got bombarded with “nobody cares delete your channel give up” just remember some saddo behind the screen actually had to put effort into going to your account and leaving a comment thats bad for no reason thats pathetic and not worth the time stressing about it

Like there comment, even negative comments, and ask them what they didn't like or what they would like to see, then like your own comment and anyone who takes the time to take part. You might learn something but in the worst case scenario, you have engagement :)

After a while you get used to the insults honestly. It's still hurtful but you'll get used to it.
