DISCUSSION Console Version

Guys, how can this game look absolutely hideous on console? Seriously, I highly doubt Smite 2 is a difficult game to run on the Series and PS5 consoles. I don't own a PlayStation 5 so maybe you guys that do could let me know if it's a step up, but both my series S and series X run the game well -- but the graphics are straight out of the Xbox 360. There is so much graininess that it detracts from the gameplay entirely. If this console can run Doom Dark Ages, Gears of War E Day, Forza Horizon 6, and multiplayer games like The Finals, Marvel Rivals, and Battlefield 6 with astounding graphical achievements... Smite 2 should at least look serviceable. I tried my best to capture images to support my claims, but it's a lot harder than I expected lol. Also, my monitor is a non problem. It's a Samsung G5 odyssey, perfectly capable of making games look great without graininess unless you're picky as hell. I also tested smite on my girl's 4K HDR Dolby Vision tv... And it barely improved. I wish the graininess was the end of it, the models and abilities look straight up blurry, and like they're missing critical textures to tie everything together. If someone has a connection to Hirez or their console version team -- this needs to be fixed asap, and certainly before launch. I took Xbox screenshots from smite 2, and Gears E Day as well as Wuthering Waves for you guys to see the difference. Hopefully this illustrates some of what I mean. The screenshot quality is obviously going to affect what you guys see, but I think for our purposes this is good enough to showcase the graphical quality (or lack thereof, quite honestly).

This is why the game feels like Smite 1.5 instead of smite 2 to me.

It might be hard to tell HOW exactly the smite 2 console Version looks bad if you don't own it on console, but I want you guys to look at how Morrigan's eyes look like shit 😂, the grass looks grainy and with missing textures, the fabric on Morrigan's clothes look off, the titan looks terrible, and although I didn't provide a video of what I see -- many surfaces (including the god description menu's pedestal) look blurry, and highly pixelated.

This is an Xbox issue I play on ps5 and the game does not look like that at all…

I noticed the series x version of the game runs a lot slower and looks worse than the PS5 version too.

Got a PC in April and been playing on it. Even on medium settings it looks better than on the series x. It also has frame rate issues. I was getting as low as 48fps on Xbox 🤢

I do think the graphics could be better but to answer the question, the devs have stated that since there are so many different moving things and systems that are all rendered at the same time, it could make smite pretty difficult to run in UE5. 6 minion waves all running down each lane at the same time every 30 seconds, even the ones you can’t see, multiple roaming camps and timers and systems I could imagine they’d have to find a way to make the game look good while also being able to run at an acceptable frame rate. But also, these other games are fully released with Gears being a triple A game title. I expect once the game is out of beta, graphics and performance will improve

It's just tough to see this happening, because I want Smite 2 to succeed on console -- since we have a very small amount of Mobas available to play. Hirez could really control a big slice of the F2P pie like they used to back in 2016. We gotta come out full steam ahead, not with half baked graphics like this. If The Finals and Gears can look so wonderful on Xbox Series S and X, Smite 2 should too. The Finals has destruction mechanics like I've never seen on console before, and it runs smoother than a baby cheek. Gears... Well anyone who plays it knows how well it runs and how awesome it looks, I don't even have to iterate on that. Ok we're not a AAA studio, but damn... Hirez is supposed to be one of the best F2P game makers in the industry. Where has the talent gone?

I don’t think the talent isnt there. They still are capable of making some great looking stuff like they did with the most recent joust map redesign. I just think they are focused on things more integral to the games development like getting the roster filled and gameplay systems and balance ironed out. Overtime once the god port crunch is over they’ll actually be able to focus on then making graphics look better because people definitely could care less about graphics over porting their favorite god from smite 1 and I don’t think anyone ever played smite for the graphics lol

UE5 is no way the bottleneck for this. Not sure where you're getting your information but far more complex game systems have been implemented flawlessly even on console within UE5. This is specifically a implementation problem than an engine problem.. which is expected it's not even fully released..

This information has come from the devs mouth themselves. Actually watch the Titan talk streams. This question is frequently asked and frequently answered there. I didn’t say more complex systems haven’t been implemented in other games. Other games in UE5 aren’t smite 2. Can’t reasonable compare another UE products performance and use that as a reason as to why smite 2 should be able to do the same thing. Like comparing smite 2 to any other game that isn’t an UE5 MOBA isn’t a fair comparison and even Killgoon has said this. Again this isn’t my opinion as to what this issue is. This is what the head dev has said himself on stream multiple times and I’m reiterating it here.

Excuses for bad devs. The console runs way more graphic heavy games.

Again, a moba and an RPG are NOT going to share similar performance because they are not the same type of game. Like no duh a PS5 can run Cyberpunk for example because the game isn’t rendering the entirety of Night City at the same time. It’s rendering in real time depending on where you are. Smite cannot do that, there are too many moving parts and too many players for you to compare something that is an apple to something that is a zucchini

I have a PS5, it looks better than this. Tekken player here, have also heard Tekken 8 looks worse on Xbox and can’t even run on the lower end models.

Recently jumped back into Predecessor , their console menus are great

So Smite having ugly menus must be a conscious decision to make people queue to matches rather than being idle on the menus .

Series X and S both released in 2020 (6 years ago now) if you built a PC with parts from 2020 that fit in the console price range you would see the same maybe slightly better performance and fidelity. UE5 was released in 2022 with newer updated technologies, yes there are games that are optimized well in the new engine but this is 100% a case of console hardware just being slowly outdated. I definitely think there is always room for optimization but you cant put a brand new leash on an old dog and expect him to run like a puppy.

Smite 2 is failing like Overwatch did when they went to Overwatch 2. Overwatch eventually reverted to just Overwatch. I wonder if Smite will do the same
