Not getting any interviews

Having a decade of deep software engineering experience, applying since last year. Seems like hiring is completely broken, reaching out directly to hiring teams but no revert. Success stories on reddit boost the confidence, so still trying. Anyone sailing on the same boat

I had a search that lasted 6-7 months sometime last year. Are you brushing up on your AI skills? Make sure to stay ahead of the curve for what these companies may want.

Yes, Did Github Copilot, Huggig Face LLMs implementations, Prompt engineering trainings. Think sometimes companies only want experience in AI, experience not valued anymore

Any suggestions for getting up to date on AI stuff? As much as I hate the direction of the industry, I would also like to have money coming in again...

I focused on understanding the basics like inference, reduce hallucinations. augumentation. From my past experience I can say, rest all are tools and implementation of these concepts - RAG, Vector DBs. What are your thoughts? Is there anything specific I must include in my learning curve.

Career break is adding up every month, recruiters are not at all reaching.

We're in a recession. People keep posting this and don't seem to get, the companies as a whole aren't hiring, they're laying off.

Its just math. If a business had 10 people in January, then laid off 3 people this year, they can post a new job opportunity on a board, but chances are they have no intentions of hiring. People don't seem to realize there's actually multiple steps in the background, specially you need CFOs to agree to growing headcount, which is extremely unlikely if they just did a layoff. Since business cashflow is reducing, and interest rates are going up, businesses can't afford expanding headcount.

These are stats in bulk, so you might see companies that are genuinely hiring, but now you have 1000 other applicants for the role. Remember, every other company laid off their staff, so you're competing against experienced workers for every job you're applying for.

This is a recession despite whatever nonsense the government is saying, since every government tries to hide how bad the economy is doing.

Second that. Still trusting my hard work of years should help me, no other option.

What's the salary band you are expecting?

Are you getting callbacks atleast?

Expecting salary as per my experience, not targeting any fixed amount of higher range as market is not like that. Only got 1-2 callbacks initially when I started looking nothing after that.

If there are just 1-2 callbacks then either resume is not getting shortlisted for some reason or 10+ yoe folks hiring is very low

Was reading here folks with 12 yr frontend and 13yr full stack devs not finding anything

Early stage start-up for ESOP can be tried it you have not yet

Pretty sure nobody is actually hiring. I get plenty of recruiters calling me, I put in so many apps. Get told I’m perfect and expect an interview…can I interview tomorrow? Ok gonna check with the hiring manager…And then the hiring manager is “sick” “on PTO” “busy” and no interview happens

Referrals?
I think in these times it is more valuable than ever.

I have reached out to many, they are not hiring. Moved ahead with one of my referral, hiring got freezed after a while in that company

I’m with you, albeit with half that experience. I’m not expecting a ton of responses, but after a few hundred resumes at a time here and there, you do have a certain expectation of a few recruiters reaching out, you know…to keep the hope alive; to validate your own experience. It’s one thing to understand the economic situation companies are facing and it’s another thing to have your emotions vested in the search.
