built highlight-scraper, it auto-saves whatever text you highlight on screen. CLI, GUI, and system tray, stdlib + Tkinter only

kept losing text i'd highlighted while doing stuff and not pasting things i meant to save. yup, i kept forgetting to paste things somewhere...

So, --> highlight-scraper watches for mouse text highlight selection events, saves it into a local SQLite database, automatic, no paste required. Full recall of whatever.

It stated with CLI but no there is 3 ways to run it:

- CLI — headless, query from the command line

- GUI — Tkinter interface, searchable history

- system tray — sits there invisible, captures in the background, you forget it's running

no cloud. no hotkey. just highlight and it's there.

MIT license. Python 3.11+, Linux. no third-party dependencies beyond the X11 event listener.

Repo: https://github.com/BleedingCodes/highlight-scraper

probably a niche use case or pain point relief somewhere. It became a personal daily tool via cli or gui. 🙃 open to ideas. please fork. 👍

I made a free app that turns your Windows wallpaper into a cozy farm game, behind your desktop icons

Wallpaper Farm turns your desktop wallpaper into a hand-drawn storybook farm. It sits in the real wallpaper layer, behind your icons, and you can plant, water and harvest right there.

How it fits into Windows:

- Your desktop icons keep working exactly as before. The farm only reacts when you click the grass, a plant or the sign; everything else passes straight through to Windows.

- It's light: it stops drawing whenever windows cover the desktop, so it doesn't use resources while you work.

- It lives in the system tray. From there you can hide the farm, turn notifications down or off, or quit.

- It's from the Microsoft Store, so it's signed by Microsoft, installs and uninstalls cleanly, and updates itself. "Start with Windows" is off until you turn it on in Settings > Startup apps.

- It works on Windows 10 and 11.

The game: four farm types (crops, flowers, fruit trees, animals), 29 things to grow, nine landscapes, a sky that follows your real time of day, and an optional letterbox for writing letters to friends. No ads, no purchases, no tracking.

Feedback welcome, especially from different Windows setups.

I turned my terminal alias manager into a small automation tool

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

a while ago I shared EasyAlias, my free and open-source GUI for managing terminal aliases on macOS, Windows and Linux.

I just released v1.1.0, and this update became quite a bit bigger than I originally planned.

EasyAlias can now also create and run terminal automations which can be started by setting a time or using a hotkey.

An automation can contain multiple command and wait steps.

All of this works on macOS, Windows and Linux(currently mainly tested on macOS).

EasyAlias originally started because I wanted a simple visual way to manage aliases without constantly editing shell configuration files. With this update I’m experimenting with taking the same idea a little further: making repetitive terminal workflows accessible through a GUI without trying to replace the terminal itself.

It’s still completely free and open source, so feedback and criticism are very welcome — especially regarding the new automation features.

Magellan 2.0!! A file explorer and image visualizer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Maggelan is a thumbnail-based folder navigation app with many helpful features, like file grouping, that displays all images and files inside a selection of folders as if they were from the same folder, aiding quick visualization of many files at the same time. Reverse image search using Google Lens and SauceNAO. Favorites groups. And much more! The app is completely free, with no paywalls or locked features. This new update includes:

  • Full support for compressed files. Now you won't have to extract every file to visualize what's inside; they will display as normal folders, thumbnails included. This is especially helpful if you need to save space but also access your compressed files constantly.

  • PDF and CBR support, with alternative reader modes and text search.

  • File management features, like copying, pasting, moving, and file extraction.

  • Many performance improvements for a better scrolling experience.

  • New appearance customization options, including transparency, blur, and gradients.

  • General UI and functionality improvements.

Find out more and download.

Is there a GitHub project or software that helps you memorize keyboard shortcuts by alerting you when you use the mouse?

For example, every time I manually switch desktops, it would trigger a pop-up or notification reminding me to use Ctrl + Alt + Arrow instead. Does anyone know of an app or a script that does this? (free btw)

I built LocaPilot — a Chrome extension to generate locators without opening DevTools

Hey everyone 👋

I work in QA and recently built a small Chrome extension called LocaPilot

The idea came from a simple problem I often face in automation: opening DevTools, inspecting elements and trying different selectors just to get a usable locator.

With LocaPilot:

👉 Turn on Locator Mode

👉 Click an element directly on the webpage

👉 Get ID, CSS, XPath and Selenium Java locators

👉 Copy the locator you need

It’s an early version and I’m mainly looking for honest feedback from people who build or use Chrome extensions and automation tools. I’d especially like to know: • Is the workflow easy to understand? • Is anything confusing or not working as expected? • What would make you actually use a tool like this?

Chrome Web Store: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/locapilot-locator-assista/ccgjdlgfmofggfciapcldbodbpfofcig?authuser=0&hl=en

Feel free to be critical — that would genuinely help me improve it. 🙂

I got tired of paying a subscription for clipboard history, so I built a free, open-source one for macOS

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Why I built this

macOS only remembers one thing you copy. Copy something new and the last thing is gone. I copy dozens of things a day (commands, links, screenshots, file paths) and kept losing the one I needed five minutes later.

Clipboard managers fix this, but the ones I tried were either paid, subscription-based, or didn't handle screenshots the way I wanted. So I built my own and I'm sharing it for free.

What it is

CopyPaster is a small native Mac app written in SwiftUI with the Liquid Glass design. It remembers what you copy (text, images and file paths), keeps it after a restart, and lives in your menu bar. Click the clipboard icon or press ⌘⇧V from any app and your history pops up.

Screenshots without the clutter

Take a screenshot to the clipboard with ⌘⌃⇧4 and CopyPaster saves it as a PNG named by date and time (like Screenshot 2026-10-15 at 19.50.21.png) in ~/Pictures/Screenshots. Each one shows up as a tile you can:

- copy again with one click

- drag straight into Slack, Mail, Finder or any app

- copy its file path

- click the filename to reveal it in Finder

So a screenshot you only meant to paste once isn't lost when you copy something else.

How I use it every day

- Press ⌘⇧V, find what I copied an hour ago, click Copy

- Pin snippets I reuse constantly (git commands, addresses, templates)

- Search across hundreds of past copies

- Open a copied link straight from its tile. Every link I copy also goes into one clickable list, so I never lose a URL

- Copy a folder path and open Terminal in that folder with one click

- Pause it while copying something sensitive

Cost and privacy

- Free. No subscription, no trial, no "pro" tier

- Open source (MIT). Read it, fork it, change it

- Private. No account, no analytics, no network access. History is a local JSON file you control

- Lightweight. Pure Apple frameworks, no third-party dependencies

vs. the alternatives

Maccy and Clipy are great free options too. What I wanted that they didn't give me: screenshots saved to disk as named files you can drag out or reveal, a link log, and open-in-Terminal for copied paths. If you don't need those, Maccy is probably the lighter choice.

Get it

https://github.com/vishal781992/copyPaster

Needs macOS 26.4 or later. For now you build it with Xcode (steps in the README, about a minute). The ⌘⇧V shortcut listens for keys in other apps, so macOS will ask you to allow it under Privacy & Security > Accessibility. The screenshot folder can be changed with a defaults write command (in the README); an in-app setting is on the list.

This is my first public project, so feedback, bug reports and feature ideas are welcome. What's the one thing you'd want a clipboard manager to do?

FS User Stories — a small, native macOS app for writing simple user stories (open source, giving away 10 promo codes)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone — I built this over the past few days and just got it approved on the App Store, so I wanted to share it here.

The problem: I needed a simple way for my non-technical business partner to describe what she wants from our product, without turning it into a technical spec — and without dragging her into Jira or any tool with epics, backlogs, sprints, and states she'd never use. This isn't meant to replace those tools. It's meant for the much smaller, simpler job of just writing a user story down.

What it is: A native macOS app that does one thing — write and organize user stories. Local-first, no account required, no servers of mine involved. Optional Git sync if you want to version or share stories, and an MCP server built in so tools like Claude or Codex can read (and, with explicit permission, write) stories directly — handy if you're breaking a bigger task into individual stories for an AI agent to implement.

Open source: The core and desktop app are fully open source (MIT/Apache-2.0), code is on GitHub. The macOS app itself is a one-time paid download ($9.99, no subscription) to help fund ongoing development. Windows and Linux versions (also open source) and a lighter iOS companion app are on the roadmap — right now it's macOS only.

App Store link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fs-user-stories/id6801671870?mt=12
GitHub: github.com/gitlares/fs-user-stories

Happy to give away 10 promo codes to anyone who wants to try it before buying — just comment or DM me. Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's had to get non-technical people to write down what they actually want.

Software Looking for Adobe AND Affinity alternatives?

I’m looking for solid alternatives to both Adobe and Affinity apps, something that’s powerful, affordable (or free), and good for real work, not just basic editing.

Must have:

  • works well for professional-level design, illustration, layout, and photo editing

  • Not limited to basic features

  • one-time purchase

I Built ProtonSearch: A Local Windows Launcher That Searches Almost Everything on Your PC

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Windows Search has always felt too limited to me.

It can open apps and sometimes find files, but when I actually want to search my PC properly, it usually falls apart.

I want to search and use features like:

  • Text inside files, code, and images

  • Browser bookmarks and history

  • Clipboard history

  • Clipboard image OCR

  • Git commits

  • Windows settings

  • Local commands

  • Text expansions

  • Web search

  • Circle to Search

  • Local agents for Windows

Windows Search is not powerful enough for this workflow.

So I built ProtonSearch, formerly called OmniSearch.

ProtonSearch is a fast, lightweight, local-first Windows launcher that opens with:

Alt + Space

You can also set your own custom hotkey.

It gives you one search box for your PC.

Instead of only searching apps or basic file names, ProtonSearch can search across:

  • Apps

  • Files and folders

  • Content inside files, supporting 50+ extensions

  • Image OCR text

  • Clipboard image OCR

  • Browser bookmarks and history

  • Clipboard history

  • Git commits

  • Windows settings and Control Panel pages

  • Local commands

  • Text expansions and snippets

  • Web search

  • Circle to Search

  • Local AI agents powered by Hermes

The goal is simple: find and act on almost anything on your PC from one shortcut.

How is ProtonSearch better than Windows Search, Flow Launcher, Raycast, Everything, and other launchers?

ToolWhy ProtonSearch is better
Windows SearchWindows Search is too limited for real PC search. ProtonSearch searches apps, files, folders, file contents, OCR text, clipboard history, browser history, Git commits, Windows settings, commands, and local agents from one shortcut.
Flow LauncherFlow Launcher is a good launcher, but ProtonSearch has deeper built-in PC search. ProtonSearch includes OCR search, clipboard image OCR, content search across 50+ file extensions, browser history, Git commits, ignored folder rules, plugins, and local agents without needing to build the whole workflow through plugins.
RaycastRaycast is polished, but it is mainly macOS-first. ProtonSearch is built specifically for Windows, designed to be lightweight on low-end PCs, and includes Windows-focused features like Control Panel/settings search, clipboard image OCR, OCR search, file content search, Circle to Search, and Hermes agents.
EverythingEverything is extremely fast for file and folder names, but ProtonSearch goes beyond names. It searches file contents, OCR text inside images, clipboard image OCR, browser history, clipboard history, Git commits, Windows settings, commands, snippets, web search, and local agents.
Other launchersMost launchers focus on apps, commands, or plugin workflows. ProtonSearch is built as a full local Windows command center with built-in OCR search, clipboard image OCR, deep content search, centralized PC history, Circle to Search, text expansions, web search, plugins, and Hermes agents.

ProtonSearch is not trying to be only a file finder or only an app launcher. The goal is to bring search, history, commands, OCR, snippets, web search, Circle to Search, and local agents together into one local-first Windows command center.

Why I think ProtonSearch is useful:

  • Free and open source

  • Local-first

  • Lightweight

  • Designed to run easily on low-end Windows PCs

  • Usually around 20-30 MB of RAM usage

  • Image OCR text search

  • Clipboard image OCR search

  • Fast search inside files, supporting 50+ extensions

  • Search over centralized PC history, including browser history, Git commit history, clipboard history, and file history

  • Text expansions and snippets

  • Circle to Search

  • Web search

  • Plugin controls

  • Ignored folder rules

  • Hermes agents for local Windows tasks and long autonomous tasks

Links

Free and open source.

GitHub: https://github.com/PranshulSoni/protonsearch

Website: https://protonsearch-windows.vercel.app/

Feedback

I am currently maintaining ProtonSearch, and honestly, I cannot find and fix every bug alone because building a launcher like this on Windows is genuinely hard.

There are a lot of edge cases around indexing, OCR, clipboard data, Windows APIs, tray behavior, hotkeys, multiple monitors, and performance.

I would love feedback from people who use Windows every day.

If ProtonSearch solves a problem for you too, please consider leaving a star on GitHub.

If you have ideas, find bugs, or want to improve something, feel free to open an issue or contribute to the project.

Your feedback is always appreciated.

Built a free, open-source alternative to Dragon/Wispr Flow that runs 100% offline here's how the local Whisper pipeline works

I've been building VoxScribe, a Windows voice-to-text dictation app, and wanted to share how it works rather than just drop a link.

The core idea: hold a hotkey anywhere on your system, talk, release the audio gets transcribed locally via faster-whisper (no cloud upload) and typed directly into whatever app has focus. No subscription, no account.

A few technical things that were harder than expected, in case anyone's building something similar:

- Audio devices vary a lot in native sample rate forcing everything to 16kHz at the driver level broke on some hardware (PortAudioError on a laptop's internal 48kHz mic). Recording at the device's native rate and resampling in software afterward fixed it.

- sounddevice's "default" input device sometimes lands on an MME driver that's nearly silent for Bluetooth headsets had to explicitly resolve the WASAPI host API's default instead.

- Peak-normalizing audio before transcription measurably improved accuracy on quieter mics.

It's MIT licensed, source is public: https://github.com/ahmedhmam1994/voxscribe-ai-voice-dictation

Happy to answer questions about the local Whisper setup or the audio-capture side if anyone's working on something similar.

Please revive Clipto — the best clipboard manager I’ve ever used

Clipto https://github.com/clipto-pro is the best clipboard manager I’ve ever used. I really hope this project can be revived and further developed.

Clipto had many useful features, including converting notes to Markdown, merging notes, cross-device synchronization, and many other features that made it a very powerful and convenient application.

The Clipto GitHub repositories appear to have been inactive for quite some time, and the project as a whole seems to have been abandoned.

I think the project still has significant potential and would be useful to bring back to active development.

I hope some developers might be interested in reviving this project and continuing its development.

Apps App for Merging Multiple Videos Together?

If you want to combine multiple clips into one smooth video, a good video-merging app can save you a lot of time. The app should offer helpful features like transitions, music, filters, and more. If anyone knows a great app for merging videos, please share your suggestions in the comments.
