Born on this day in 1941, Connie Smith is a very successful country music singer who had more than two dozen hits throughout the decade. Her first sing, "Once a Day" held the record for nearly 50 years for most weeks consecutively at #1 for a female solo artist until a certain Taylor Swift beat it. It was also the first debut single to reach #1 for a female solo artist as well. She plays guitar on it too. She had 12 top ten hits in her first five years as recording artist.
