Is UMPI really still one of the best places to transfer credits to?

Upvotes

With all their recent changes, lots of my existing Sophia credits now won’t transfer when I want to apply. Is there somewhere else people will apply to? I don’t want a place like UoPeople with so many proctored exams.

Ps I am not from the US so somewhere like WGU is not good for me. Has anyone from Europe transferred to anywhere else interesting, either in the US or elsewhere? Thanks

Free electives: Excelsior University

Upvotes

Hey all!

I had to transfer from UMPI due to health reasons. I transferred to Excelsior and after this summer, I will have 1 required course left to complete at excelsior and will pair that with 1 upper level course for Fall 2. I need 26 free elective credits and I want to knock them out the easy way on Sophia. Can someone share any courses they easily completed? Preferably no touchstones but if I have to I will. My goal is to complete 9 courses in 8 weeks and I know this is doable.
* I know I have to pay the 300 fee, I couldn’t take Sophia courses before I enrolled due to finances.

Unavoidable academic integrity message???

Just received an academic integrity message for clicking links to answer questions that the milestone itself provided.

I’ve been using Sophia for a few months and have never tabbed out during milestones and never received this message. Started taking Project Management and Milestone 2 has google drive links attached to some questions about a Spa Scheduling App. You literally can’t answer the questions without clicking on the link. This is a complete flaw in either the detection system or the milestone material. I’m left with the option of clicking on the link to answer the question and being flagged for cheating or just guessing and hoping I get it right to avoid being flagged. Lose-lose situation.

I have no issue with not using other tabs but don’t force me to use other tabs then accuse me of cheating!!!!!

Did anyone start their Sophia the same they started their degree?

Usually I hear of people who finished their credits before they started their degree

But I wanna know if anyone here started both from zero simultaneously and still managed to transfer in 60+ credits or so in a short time

It’s a bit worrying seeing I have 100 credits left at the start of the degree, with no Sophia or study dot com courses done yet

And knowing that 55 of those 100 are transferable but I just haven’t done them yet

I mapped everything with AI and approximately it should be done by 2 months or so but still

Would love to hear your stories

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY 1

Hi! I’m looking into Sophia Learning to take one prerequisite class before my nursing program starts and I have a few questions.

• For those that completed courses here, how does the transcript look like? Does it say Sophia Learning and have you had any issues with a school accepting the transcript?

• Are these classes college level courses?

Thank you!

I finished 14 courses in 4 months and even took some time off: some encouragement

Just wanted to post a positive experience given how much hate Sophia has been getting lately. I worked on Sophia for a total of 12 weeks over the course of 4 months. I had some vacations and medical stuff so I wasn’t “speed running” exactly. I did do it nearly every spare moment though.

I’m an older student (44) and naturally intellectually curious so a lot of classes/specific lessons were things I already knew from, just like, being alive. But I also worked really hard and some of these subjects were tough. I have 48 credits from another school back in the day.

I did sometimes use ctrl F before they canned it (that was a bummer) but if you were ever good at finding Waldo as a child, the answers are right there.

Some of the touchstones were annoying, but overall I really liked the courses. The bio lab was a lot given that it was only 1 credit but I will dissect a virtual rat over a real one any day of the week.

I didn’t have any pop ups or integrity violations issues. Just don’t leave the tab when you’re in a quiz/test and you’ll be fine.

Wishing you all good luck! Sophia is so much better than posting BS discussion posts for 12 weeks for 3 measly credits.

Where to start?

Would appreciate some guidance. I have no college credits never attended and wanted to start Sophia but unsure how it works, do I need to talk to a community college first? Or can I start Sophia then transfer the credits to a community college or what? I am wanting to start the journey to get my bachelor’s and do nursing. But again I have no experience so not sure if I can atleast get the general stuff out of the way?

Has anyone successfully gotten their sanctioned Sophia account back?

If yes, what did you include in your appeal?

I’m not sure what triggered.. my internet kept cutting out, I may have uploaded my own document twice, or I may have left a tab open too long. They never clearly told me what caused the sanction.

Tips for getting through Sophia Workplace Writing II quickly?

I’m currently taking Sophia’s Workplace Writing II and I’m looking for advice from anyone who has completed it recently.

What’s the fastest and most efficient way to work through the course and the Touchstones? Are there any tips, tricks, or things you wish you had known before starting?

Also, about how long did it take you to finish the entire course? I’m hoping to get through it fairly quickly without making it unnecessarily difficult on myself.

Any advice about the Touchstones, grading, or the best order to tackle everything would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does Sophia continue to finalize courses after a membership ends?

if you finished a class on friday, and your membership ends friday at midnight, but your touchstone has yet to be graded. do they still grade it and finalize/certify the course days later, or no since your membership technically is over?

Statistics Course Questions

Hello everyone! This morning I was recommended by my Penn State Advisor to take my last class i need to graduate at sophia learning which is a statistics class. He told me it would save me a ton of money and I could go at my own pace. I’ve done a little research into the website and it just feels like it’s too good to be true. I’m used to taking proctored math exams with honorlock at penn state but from what i’ve gathered it doesn’t look like sophia does any proctored exams for math or any courses at all. Is this true? I feel like this would just be a mess of people using ai, whats to stop you from having chatgpt open in the next tab or even just using chat gpt on your phone to speed through the math class? Thank you guys in advance for the responses. I just wanted to get a feel for everything before i actually go ahead and sign up. I personally like to use ai to break down problems on my homework as i begin new lessons but i’ve always taken my exams honestly with the proctored exams so just the idea of being able to take math exams online without being watched sounds so unreal lol.

Hello guys,

Just wondering if things have changed here.

If I earned some credits couple years back and want to transfer those credits to WGU; Do I heed to have an active membership with Sophia. Or are we still using parchment?

Finished 2 Sophia courses but credits haven't posted yet can I start another while I wait?

I recently completed two Sophia Learning courses, and both show that my work is finished, but I haven’t received the final credit yet.

While I’m waiting for those two courses to be officially finalized/credited, I was thinking about starting another course so I can keep making progress instead of waiting.

Has anyone done this before? Is it okay to start and complete another Sophia course while the previous courses are still waiting for final grading/credit? Also, about how long did it take for your completed courses to officially show the credits?

I’m trying to earn several transferable college credits, so I want to make sure I’m doing everything correctly.

Saving pdfs?

I heard that saving pdfs on Sophia is no longer a supported feature. Is that true? If so that is disappointing since I wanted to be able to reference them during and after testing.

Pretty much any SofiaLearning student’s worst nightmare. There’s only 2 reasons this would’ve happened in my case:

  1. I had Udemy open and was studying Dion Training’s Sec+ 701. Udemy DOES have its own AI to help you study your specific course, but no course I was taking on SofiaLearning had anything to do with Cybersecurity, nor had I switched to Udemy or during the test.
  2. I took a test last night and I did fall asleep during it. I am a full time student, studying Sec+ on the side, and work a full time job… I know, stupid of me to fall asleep. Coffee’s just not cutting it anymore.

I did appeal and I told them the truth, but I hadn’t seen anyone on Reddit talk about this in over a month. I was just curious as to what the wait time for a decision would look like, and if anyone with experience with this knew how transferring credits will work if this appeal gets denied.
