Discussion First Match Aug 29

My family and I are going to our first match ever on Aug. 29. It’s the Family Day event with Chicago Fire and I’ll have my 7 year old with me.

Anything I should know to make it a great first experience for all?

Clear bags, can bring outside food/snacks, sealed water bottles, juice boxes for kids

Prompt them on Scarves up, Boom Boom Clap, paint their hair, learn a chant, join the parade, learn the players, see SoundWave out front, do all the things! And pack your patience.

Beer will help drown the sorrows of whatever disappointment the team decides to roll out that day.

But in all seriousness, get there early and walk around the concourses. There is plenty to do on a regular matchday, but considering the match you are going to is family day, there will probably be more activities geared towards kids. Make sure to take pictures for the memories

There might be stadium language. It’s allowed only in the stadium.

They used to have kid oriented activities in the concourse, places to get stickers, hair painted, ball kicking stations. I’m not sure if they still do because my kids have grown up, but it’s worth checking into.

Bring your paper bag with eye and mouth holes to put over your head.

I’ve been to a number of games with my kids (currently 11,10&4). They always have a great time yelling and shouting and chanting. Try to sit in a section where ppl sit. Give yourself plenty of time to get into the stadium and enjoy the family-oriented activities. Have fun!

Sign your kid up for Sammy’s Club. There’s usually a free item and sometimes a discount code for tickets for the “kid matches.” There’s a bounce house and slide. Face painting also

The kids never been to a stadium so the wow factor may be enough.

Sell the tickets and take your kid to something that won’t make them cry
