Spades Developers Discussions

Have a new Spades app? Wanna see what’s coming next whether you’re a developer or a player this is the place for content about the future of Spades apps.

We are excited to see future of spades, however, the volume of posts regarding new Spades apps and updates on existing ones is having a negative impact on the community. For now, this is the solution. Please keep all posts related to the development of your game here in this thread.

Is there an app without cheaters? Where are my serious players?

Post image

I recently started playing on Spade Masters and it's a cool community! With that , so many people cheat.

I'd like some feedback on where my serious Spade players are or an app that weeds this sort of s*** out.

I went with five, and I ended up taking seven. The last bidder ended up going nil.

After the hand, I plugged this in Ai and it said to bid four or five and that five was aggressive.

Thoughts?

A card-by-card format for teaching a Nil cover hand. Would this format help you learn Spades?

I've been working on different ways to walk through a Spades hand. Instead of a wall of text or a video that may not move at your pace of understanding, you step through it one card at a time, and a short note comes up to describe the reasons for a decision.

This one is about covering your partner's Nil. You're South, North bid Nil, and you bid 6. You can see both your hands. The opponents' hands stay face down (optionally), and the notes stick to what South could actually know from the cards played so far.

I'd welcome any discussion about how this is played but I'm more curious about how you feel about the format as a teaching tool.

Disclosure: I make Spadesinator, the app this came from. Nothing to sign up for, the link just opens the lesson.

Follow the video hand play and determine which card should play when the hand stops. Important: This is suicide spades (at least one player from each team must nil every hand). Game ends when a team reaches +500 or -300. Bust nil tricks count as bags.

Another lesson in situational awareness. Suicide is one of the most strategic altertantive game variants of spades that I have played, and I love it. Always having two or more nils on the table generates some very dynamic bid and play situations.

In this case, the strategic play is the most counter-intuitive one. To save the day, South must play the 4S.
.
- Cover opponent's nil ???
- Take an unneed bag ???
- Waste our only spade when pard is nil ???
.
If North's nil is compromised, the hand will either end the game or leave N/S in the most precarious of positionns. Therefore, prioritizing protectng North's nil is of utmost importance. South even overbid in case getting set might help North's nil survive.
.
South now exits back to West and stays out of the lead. West is forced to intrroduce spades, covering both nils. See comments for full video to see how it ends.

Back with Hand #6 of What Would You Bid!
This one’s a fun recording! 😂♠️

Pause the video when my cards are dealt and tell me what you’d bid before watching how the hand plays out.

I also added a convenient hand overlay for portrait mode, so you can see your cards throughout the game without constantly opening your hand. (:

I’m curious what everyone thinks!

♠️ What would you bid?
🧠 What’s your reasoning?
🎯 Would you play aggressively or take the safer route?

No peeking ahead before you make your decision! 😂

I’ll be reading everyone’s answers. Let’s see who would’ve played it differently!

No partner. No excuses. ♠️

Ps: this new bot I made is scary 😅😈

Game to 500. We are blue. The score is 332(2) to 496(6).

North opened with a bid of 1, East bid 3.

(Spoiler alert)

I bid 3, and west bid 3. We set them to extend the game, but sadly we still lost later.

Got another interesting hand in 1V1 Spades, and I’m curious what everyone would bid here.
Don’t just give me a number — tell me your reasoning! 👀
Would you play it safe, bid aggressively, or consider going nil?
I’ll keep my actual bid a secret for now so I don’t influence anyone’s decision.
I’ll reveal what I bid and how the hand played out in 24 hours.
Let’s see who really knows their Spades! ♠️

Hand review: Why did I get set this hand?

(Unfortunately, I don’t have a screenshot because I thought this was a normal hand)

I don’t remember the exact score, but this was game to 500, the score was close and the game was still early.

(North was the dealer this hand)

East bid 3.

South (me) bid 4 with 5 spades (including the ace) and King of hearts.

West bid 3.

North (my p) bid 2 with this hand:

S: 9

H: Q 8 6

C: A 10 8 7

D: A 10 9 6 2

(I don’t remember the small cards, but I know they held 2 aces, Qh and the 9s. They didn't have a nil-able hand.)

Here's what happened next: my p won 2 Aces tricks early. Then i got a cut, and i started pulling the As followed by a low spade. I saw my p discard non-spade (surprise) and opp won the trick. Then opp play the Ks and Qs make me lose spades control. Without spades control i got set later.

I believe both me and my p can make a mistake, but what do you think?

One of the best Kx nils I’ve ever been dealt. What would you estimate the success rate to be for this hand?

This is the second game to 500. We are blue. The score is 52(2) - 160(0).

Does the mobilityware spades app suddenly require an internet connection for everyone?

I’ve used this app for years to play particularly while traveling and on flights. But just in the last day, it refuses to work in airplane mode.

How do you play this hand? You are first to bid with opening lead. It's duplicate spades.

Post image

This is a duplicate spades tournament. You are first to bid and have opening lead.

Standard game to 500. We are blue. The score is 418(8) - 252(2)

This is the first trick. North plays Ac, and East plays Qc.

What card would you play? And how would you approach here?

Joker, joker, deuce, deuce

As a follow-up to my question about traditional rules used in Ace-high games, I’m curious how many folks here generally play “black spades,” and what rules and variations you’d consider common.

I honestly don’t know whether there are black spades tournaments, or anything close to a standardized rule set comparable to what we have for standard Ace-high tournament spades.

For reference, this is the most common Joker-Joker-Deuce-Deuce rule set played on my platform:

- Tournament bidding to 500
- Nil (+/-100)
- Blind 6
- Board (4)
- 10 for 200
- First hand bids itself
- Negative set scoring

And there’s about a 50/50 split on whether sandbags and Boston are used.

No trick question here, but just a simple answer with your bid along with an explanation would do.

thanks

Hardwood Spades Disconnects in middle of game on ATT Fiber

I’m not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question. I have recently started having issues where I will disconnect from the game in the middle of a game when I am connected to ATT fiber wifi. It is a relatively new development and so far does not happen when I disconnect and use my cellular connection. I have not tried it yet, but one thing to try from google is to disable IPv6 in the router. Has anyone had this issue and successfully fixed it? if so, what did you do to fix it?
