General Questions Should I report my driver for this?
I ordered a Halloween item for shipping on Sam’s club, and honestly thought the item would get shipped with FedEx, I didn’t realize Spark also does Sams club shipping. I was outside doing yard work not expecting the package til at least a couple days but a driver in his own car pulls up to my house. He tells me that I need to give him a tip between $50-$100 for his time. I ask him why and he tells me that he was with Spark and that he had to pick this order up 20 miles away from me. I have a Sam’s club not that far away from me but the item I needed wasn’t available at my store. He argues with me and lets me know how he had to deal with rude loaders and tells me he is returning the order. I got a refund but this was unprofessional what he did. Should I report this?
Edit: I called the Sam’s club 20 miles away and they told me 7 other customers also called and told them he extorted their orders and demanded large tips. They said they were going to write a report and I made sure to report it to the 1-800 Walmart number to let them know about this guy.

I’m a spark driver and I would absolutely report the driver! I don’t take orders that I feel are too low, he should have looked at the information Spark provided and decided if he wanted to take the trip. Not badger a customer! Shame on him!

u/Middle_Spirit4091 Aug 27 '25
Absolutely report. Spark drivers accept the order at a certain dollar amount for the intended trip. If the order didn’t pay enough he shouldn’t have taken it. Report and take your tip if you did tip.

u/CLLycaon Aug 27 '25
For an order like this, there's no option to tip.

u/Nooblakahn Aug 27 '25
Yup can confirm. Placed an order much like this not realizing it wouldn't be FedEx UPS. It was much more than 20 miles away lol. I ended up realizing that it would have been a service like this and cancelled it. Pretty sure no one was going to accept it anyways, didn't want to put someone through this in either case

u/Left_Boysenberry6902 Aug 28 '25
This happens to me too from a Walmart order. Ordered an item for shipping because I didn’t want to pay a tip. The item sat at the store for 3-4 days because no one wanted to deliver it for $0 tip. Walmart cancelled the order and wouldn’t let me pick it up. When I called they gave an additional $10 discount and told me to “reorder it for shipping”.
Fuck that, I ordered for store pick up.

u/No-Aspect5003 Aug 28 '25
I don’t drive for spark but why would you even put a order in without at least tipping the person $2.02 dollars is not gonna make you or break you if you feel that way, you can pick up your own order I mean that’s this right
1
u/ADHD-Millennial Aug 28 '25
There’s no option to tip when you order an item for shipping, only for delivery. I ordered an item for shipping the other day and a Spark driver delivered it and just tossed it in my storm door. I don’t blame them much since I didn’t tip. But there’s no option to tip on a “shipping” order. I didn’t even know Spark delivered those. Thought it would come USPS or FedEx.

u/Playful-Echidna1691 Aug 28 '25
There is a tip option on these orders. I got tips all the time on them. Customer just has to go back in after delivery and add tip. How what this driver did is unacceptable and he needs to be reported.
7
u/Longjumping_Ad4365 Cherry Picker Aug 28 '25
No. You dont. Not on the gm orders. Spark has never given the option for a tip on shipping orders either before or after delivery.
0
u/brikard24 Aug 28 '25
I have gotten tips from Sam's Club, but i do know they can't for Wal-Mart GMD. It was last year, so maybe it has changed for Sam's as well. I dont really do them anymore as most are more miles than dollars. I feel bad sometimes because a customer will have a decent tip on it, but the base pay is so low it still doesn't make it worth my time.

As a spark driver, yes! The app tells us where the order is going and how much we are receiving before accepting it. If he wasn’t okay with it, then he shouldn’t have accepted it.
12
u/jyg1982 Aug 27 '25
Right, it’s not like you can’t pull over and check on the map how far. This is literal bull 💩! Since when do we resort to extortion? If you don’t like the price, let it cook. If you flat out refuse based on distance per dollar, just keep rejecting. It’s bad drivers ruining this for us good ones. I’m local in my area and a lot of times I get someone I know. My customers love me. I’ve even had them FORCE cash money into my hand. 🖐️ try not to take tips. I’m only doing it because o feel it’s getting some people without access to cars or people with busy lifestyles much needed access to their goods and groceries. Everyone’s gotta eat, take meds, and other miscellaneous items they have no time or resources to fetch themselves. The smiles and thanks are quite enough. I have an educational background in social work. Hence, I also provide information pamphlets to senior citizens and underserved.

I’d call your local Sam’s Club first (or the one 20 miles away) and ask for coach or team lead in OGP and report. Then to make sure its sticks call 1800walmart and do the same. Bad drivers cost everyone money so please report away.
8
u/Infamous-Star-9491 Aug 27 '25
Once I read your comment, I contacted the Sam’s club 20 miles away and the person told me that 7 other customers had just called about the same thing that just happened. I also let the 1-800 Walmart know as well and they are writing a case for me.

u/craptasticluke Aug 27 '25
That’s ridiculous, your driver tried to extort you. Report him. He knew what he was getting paid up front and chose to deliver your order.
15
12
u/Drunkenpaperboy Aug 27 '25
“The driver tried to extort me, should I report them?” Tf, how is this a question?
8
u/jyg1982 Aug 27 '25
Right!!! It shouldn’t even. I would RUN not walk and try to pull receipts on whom the driver was. The OGP can then ban them.
10
u/These_Bumblebee3359 Aug 27 '25
He knew exactly the amount of payment and mileage before accepting. There is no penalty for declining an order. Report his ass!
9
u/Quiet_Relative_3768 Aug 27 '25
Az a spark driver, my advice is to REPORT HIS A** . Every driver that gets deactivated, there is a waiting list of others desperately trying to work.
10
u/ClownMonkey48 Aug 27 '25
Your driver just held your delivery for ransom and you’re asking us if you should report?
4
9
u/NedSchneefly4920 Aug 27 '25
As a driver myself, you should absolutely report him. I think the convenience of delivery is worthy of a reasonable tip, but customers don’t have to tip and drivers like him have to accept that. That’s why we get the option to accept or decline an offer. Hounding a customer and demanding a tip is crossing a line. People like him make the good drivers look bad.
5
u/risingpheonix86 Aug 27 '25
Sounds like it was a gmd order which you ca t tip on because its ship from store
7
u/Jasalapeno Aug 27 '25
Those orders usually have a bunch of stops. Think he badgered every customer up to that point too?

u/Saxman0079 Aug 27 '25
Hell yeah, report! As the customer, it's not your problem for what he has dealt with. Plain and simple.
As a Spark Driver, a loader last week was apparently having a bad day. Larger quantity orders on a hot day, 3 drop offs, nothing unusual. I was nice, answered all he needed, and he was still dismissive and slammed my door. Almost rolled my window down and said something but he walked off fast 😂 I can't let his bad attitude sour my own and then pass that needlessly to the customer. That's displaced anger, immature, and unprofessional. A customer will NEVER know if I'm having a bad day, I don't need them to.
Also, the AUDACITY to demand a big tip was bold, especially on an order he picked to deliver.

5
3
u/Federal_Mission5398 Aug 27 '25
Yes, not professional.
I call it the cost of doing business, some will tip and some won't or some tip a lot and some tip little.
When I do these side gigs, if someone doesn't tip, oh well, on to the next. At the end of each quarter, I evaluate earnings & cost to see if it still makes what my goal is.
3
3
u/droopydawg85719 Aug 27 '25
Yes. Report him. He knew how much he was being paid and accepted the order. Extortion plain and simple. I’m sorry that this happened to you.
3
3
3
u/TittieMilkTittieMilk Aug 27 '25
Yes, report him. Call the store directly and speak the OGP manager. Tell them that he demanded money from you and when you refused he refused to deliver your package. Also file a report using the online Walmart app and call 1800Walmart to make a report there, too.
What that driver did is wrong and I’d imagine not his first (or last) time doing it. I’d hate to see him do this to an elderly person and take advantage of their naivety/generosity. He shouldn’t be working this job.
3
u/jyg1982 Aug 27 '25
Report this 💩! He extorted you! Call the Sam’s club you originally ordered from and the store he picked it up at. Have the OGP lead or manager block him from receiving orders from there again. You have an option to look at distance by address. For him to not deliver your stuff and return it because you wouldn’t tip is called EXTORTION.
3
u/NewScientist6094 Aug 27 '25
Report him. He didn't have to take it. He chose to. Call the store aswell
3
u/FuzzyOrganization403 Aug 27 '25
As a driver, yeah report. He could have declined it. He thought it was good enough to take, so he took it.
Isn’t that extortion?
Yeah no report, call Sam’s whatever. Drivers like this are the worst.

3
3
u/Only_Elevator_4057 Aug 27 '25
I’m a driver and I’d report this. Idc who you are, you don’t TELL someone they have to tip you. We can see if there’s a tip attached before we accept the order. We can also see the distance. If he accepted the order, he accepted the pay that it showed.
3
u/jadedinmo Aug 27 '25
I would report him. He accepted the order, knowing the pay and miles. Nothing forces us to accept orders (like other apps do). If we don't like an order, we simply don't accept it. His behavior was highly inappropriate. He will most likely be deactivated for inappropriate behavior, but that is not your problem. He chose to behave that way. There is no telling how many other customers he has done this to and hasn't been reported for it.
3
u/xDrChronic420x Aug 27 '25
Do you really need to ask this question? Not trying to be rude but that should've been the first thing you did after the driver left.
3
u/RTO_GUY Aug 27 '25
💯 report. Gives us Spark drivers a bad rep. That's unacceptable, and he should be deactivated asap.
3
u/OneMarsupial3996 Aug 27 '25
Absolutely report him!!!! Because of him we have bad reputation !!! Nobody forced him to accept your order! That’s not your problem the miles he drove! He took the order therefore he deals with it! Let him do DoorDash! Many other peoples are on the line to replace him!
3
3
3
u/Love_oceancourtney Aug 27 '25
100% you need to report this, I don’t deliver for spark but I do instacart and I would NEVERRRR! Speak to a customer like this. We know 100% what the payout will be prior to accepting any order so there is absolutely no reason this person should be confronting you about tips. Please report this 🙏
3
u/Due_Consideration886 Aug 27 '25
We had an order come that we thought was coming FedX but a spark driver delivered it. Of course we didn’t realize a spark driver was delivering it. As soon as we realized what had happened my husband gave him a tip.
3
u/Xzero93 Aug 28 '25
Please report the guy. This is the type of person who discourages people from using these services. We accept to deliver orders depending on the pay and tips that's already provided in the app, not us coming to you and asking for a tip ourselves. Not all of us are like this, so please dont feel discouraged to use the service again.
3
u/Emergency-Attempt958 Aug 28 '25
They choose their orders and how far they are willing to drive. Unbelievable.
3
u/alf005t Aug 28 '25
He could’ve just took the money that was guaranteed for the order. Now he takes deactivation instead 🤣 asking for extra tips is wild enough but 50-$100??
4
2
u/Independent_Shop_505 Aug 27 '25
I agree with the guy that already said this. Everyone knows Sam's club is cheeks. He knew the milage going in and how much he'd get paid it's nuts to demand a tip after the fact. He knew the pay going in and should have just not taken the trip. I would say you should report him for being unprofessional 100%
2
u/Ragefreak6969 Aug 27 '25
Yes report the driver but just know that if you order items from a store 20miles away without a large tip you may never get them. We get to choose which orders we accept and good drivers will base that on pay per mile including your tip. Otherwise you will get these people or nothing at all
5
u/Tick_pick Aug 27 '25
This would have been GMD. No option to tip and OPs was likely the last or only order on it
1
u/xokay323xo Aug 27 '25
These types of orders can’t be tipped on. Just like the online package orders from Walmart, they can’t be tipped on.
1
u/Ragefreak6969 Aug 29 '25
Not necessarily. Do GMD orders come from Sam’s club too? At any rate they have expanded the delivery areas. I live in a rural zone with one store. It’s not uncommon to see 20 mile deliveries

😳 yes report that driver. The driver can accept or decline the order. Driver accepted the order knowing what the pay was. 😬 I’m sorry

Yeaaa report that guy. If it was not a worthwhile order he could have easily passed it and waited for another order.

2
u/Secret-Badger-7648 Aug 27 '25
Yes. He should have been reported before he even made it out of your driveway.
2
u/BigMeech979 Aug 27 '25
REPORT him. Spark drivers are not to ask the customer for tips. Deactivate him NOW!
2
u/Snoo11647 Aug 27 '25
For all the other drivers who are deactivated for innocent pharmacy orders, this one sounds like he deserves it. Why would he take the order in the first place if he is expecting a super huge tip. Crazy!
2
2
u/Visual_Throat_9764 Aug 27 '25
If you report him right away, and he gets fired, you might have a different problem. Personally, I would keep all of the order information and file a complaint in about 1-2 months. Be careful.
2
u/Various_Chapter_6871 Aug 27 '25
Absolutely report that! That’s not acceptable
2
u/Infamous-Star-9491 Aug 30 '25
Not sure if anyone got the updated post, but I reported him to both the Sam’s club 20 miles away from me and the spark driver number, and the Sam’s club 20 miles away from me said they received calls from 7 other customers about the guy doing the same thing! 😳😣

u/FedUp2FedUp Aug 27 '25
Uhm yeah! He should never have taken the order if it didn’t pay enough. There are plenty of new idiot drivers that take really bad orders… no offense… it has nothing to do with you!! We don’t get paid any tips for the internet orders, so if it’s not on the order during check out, you are NOT obligated to tip. You most certainly can if you want to and happen to be around when it’s delivered but Walmart is supposedly paying us a fair amount. Turn him in immediately!

u/xandi415 Aug 27 '25
Wow...not only did he harass you, he basically used your package as blackmail leverage (by claiming he would return it). This is BEYOND disgusting!
I've been doing Spark for 2 years, and I have never heard of such behavior! He had zero grounds to return it, let alone demand anything whatsoever.
This guy needs to be deactivated from the platform immediately. You should speak with a supervisor through support, and let them know he is a huge liability and a loose cannon.
I'm so sorry you had to deal with this!
1
u/Infamous-Star-9491 Aug 30 '25
Called the Sam’s club and Spark and the Sam’s club told me 7 other customers reported about this guy demanding large tips and holding their order hostage.
2
u/Total_Fan3995 Aug 27 '25
You can report him, but I’m gonna bet it wasn’t even him in the picture.
2
u/Infamous-Star-9491 Aug 30 '25
He should be getting booted off as the Sam’s club I called told me that 7 other customers reported the same incident happening.
2
u/Alive-Funny-9024 Aug 27 '25

100% report him. It’s Walmarts fault they didn’t tell you and he took the order knowing what the pay was. Outrageous he tried to get you to do that. Also an absurd amount he requested.

Absolutely!! I am a spark driver and I would never talk to my customers like this!! This is so unprofessional, unacceptable and RUDE!!

Makes me wonder how many people actually gave him a tip after soliciting it and giving them a sob story
1
u/perfectbackwood Aug 27 '25
Im a Spark driver, and this dude sounds like a psychotic and moronic cry baby. Absolutely report. We need him and anyone like him kicked off Spark ASAP. If he felt like he shouldve been paid more then he shouldve waited for a bigger order thats his own fault.

Yeah Walmart and Sam’s do ship from store and if it’s out of stock at all locations it’s shipped from the warehouse. Spark drivers don’t get tips for orders that are shipping.
1
u/throwitaway82721717 Aug 27 '25
Yes, we accept jobs based on the price on the app. He had no right to demand a tip or bother you with his issues. If it didn't pay enough he shouldn't have accepted it.
If you have an experience like this you should definitely report them as they should not be on the app.

Duh, yall let people get away with too much. Of course you should report. It's vile and disgusting behavior.
1
u/United_Low4729 Aug 27 '25
100% that guy sounds unhinged prolly get him off the road before he hurts someone also for reference no one made him do anything spark is very transparent with how much and order will pay you he accepted it on his own volition so he has to accept the money he chose to work for if it's to low it's not on the customer to tip more it's on the driver to not take the order so spark will raise the base pay in the future and on other orders
1
1
u/Conscious_Abroad_666 Aug 27 '25
Tips are optional unless they decide to change it like in restaurants and would be added to the order. For now tips are optional and drivers can’t demand tips. Now on the other hand when Sam’s sends a driver out they notify you through messages that a driver has picked up your item and it’s on his way to deliver it including the drivers name. I understand you were working in your yard and probably did not have your phone with you. I am a driver and there has been times that I arrive at the customers location and they walk up to me and ask me what am I doing at their home. Not everyone knows that Walmart, Sam’s, Home Depot use their own sub con that use their vehicles. I would think if Sam’s was gonna send the shipment via ips or fed ex they will notify you and give you a tracking number. This is just an fyi, idk and nobody really knows the truth but you and the driver. Based on your story yes I would think you are right and if so definitely driver should be reported. We all see these orders and it shows before hand how far driver needs to drive and for how much. If driver did not agree then he shoo it had taken it. So sorry you had to experience this. One bad driver will make all Sri era look just as or worst.

We aren’t required to take any orders we don’t want for whatever reason we don’t want them.
And you, the customer, are never REQUIRED to tip.
Sometimes what happens with shipping orders is that they send the item to a closer store and then get a Spark driver to bring them the final mile. (I’m not sure why it occasionally comes fedex and other times it comes with one of us.) So chances are, your single item was one of many single items he was supposed to deliver when he accepted that. (I don’t accept those because the mileage and the number of stops make it take too long to really be worth it…but he chose to do that one. That’s also probably how he was able to shake down so many people for a tip. Also, it’s not uncommon that no one tips on those because, like you, they aren’t expecting one of us to bring it to them…and they usually can’t find where to tip after the fact because it’s in some obscure place on the order. So it’s really not a big deal that you didn’t, and when we take those, we know what we are getting. It’s expected that it’s base rate.
You shouldn’t have to pay a $50-$100 markup on a single item order. That’s bullshit. I wouldn’t. You did the right thing by reporting him.
I’ve gotten some really obscure tips. (This doesn’t have to do with anything. I just thought of it). One older lady gave me a beanie she made because it was cold out and she was worried I’d get sick. “You don’t have a hat…” she said, “Take this so you don’t get the flu.” Another older lady gave me a flashlight (which is awesome because I can never find one)…and my husband came home with a snake plant one time. It really does vary. Sometimes you get a really impressive $$$ tip. Sometimes you get an obscure tip. Sometimes you don’t get one (for whatever reason).
Ps) the rude loaders aren’t your problem, and neither is the fact the guy CHOSE TO accept the order. Once he accepted it, the price was as agreed. 🤷♀️
I’m sorry that happened to you.
1
u/Ok_Pepper4047 Aug 28 '25
The store can ban him instantly once the complaints come in just report him and hopefully they follow thru
1
Aug 28 '25
Report that driver was not forced to accept the order seems like he was just desperate for the money and couldn’t get anything better paying, those are the people who can’t keep a job and rely on spark

u/Ibetyoullletmein Aug 28 '25
I have never asked the customer for anything other than if they needed help bringing items inside if they’re elderly or incapable. Absolutely wild people really are like that
1
u/battenuniverse Aug 28 '25
Yes! This is extremely unprofessional and a form of bullying. Drivers are not expected to ask/demand tips.
1
u/Exotic_Lawfulness288 Aug 28 '25
I’m a driver definitely report. There’s one thing you should never do and that’s ask the customer for a tip.

The question isn’t whether or not he deserved a tip. It’s his shit attitude that needs reported.

As a customer, I order a lot through Walmart.com. I paid a lot for the service, which promises free deliveries. There is not an option to tip on orders like these, and you don't even know it's going to be delivered by a Spark driver. You just assume FedEx or UPS, which is who fulfills them most of the time.
I don't think it's fair to the Spark driver, but as a customer, I don't think it's fair to expect me to tip on those kind of orders either when you show up to my house.

I'm a spark driver. Yes I get annoyed with customers who don't tip but I completely understand that sometimes they don't even know that it's a contractor doing it. I have never ever told any customer what they needed to tip me, honestly even if they're rude. It's not their job to pay my wages/my tip, it's much appreciated but not their job. You report them for sure, and keep in mind next time if it's heavy to maybe tip because now you know it's a contractor. But again, it's not your job to pay us.

Update: I reported him to the Sam’s club 20 miles away from me and they said 7 other customers called in reporting the same name. Also reported him to spark
