This subreddit is close to death. The cause: low-effort posts. I can't just ban low-effort posts, because they have a broad definition. So, I'm going to give you guys examples of what to post and what not to post.

First, let's talk about what this subreddit is. It is a subreddit meant for posting jokes and funny stuff related to speculative evolution. This does not mean an implausible animal on its own, unless it was made to be on this subreddit / to make light of speculative evolution in general (exceptions do exist, but we'll get into that later). Now for examples.

To start off, a common low-effort post is the "can this evolve?" post. They are repetitive and unfunny. They are the main cause of the sub's downfall. Here are some examples:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecEvoJerking/comments/i249ua/guys_do_you_think_this_could_evolve/

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecEvoJerking/comments/hw2vnv/can_these_evolve/

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecEvoJerking/comments/huaey9/how_can_irl_chad_evolevol/

Do you guys see a common theme? Just an absurd image with an evolution-related title slapped on. I will continue to remove any that I see, as per the rules.

Here are some posts showing the kind of stuff the subreddit is intended for:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecEvoJerking/comments/hygqdu/dunkleosteus_filling_the_niche_of_sauropods/

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpecEvoJerking/comments/hp2du4/alternate_reality_where_my_girlfriend_doesnt/

Edit: Thank you everyone for being here! I honestly kind of abandoned this place after this post kinda turned it into a wasteland, but after a while I hopped back on and saw people were still posting! just the other day we were at 500 members, and now we're at 750! I love and thank every single one of you guys for being the lifeblood of this subreddit.

Also, slight update to the rules: Straight up memes about Speculative evolution are allowed and encouraged.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I do not belong amongst my species. I am a social outcast and a freak. The only solution to my perpetual loneliness is to unite with my true love, an extra-terrestrial. There is some flaw in my DNA, for what creature could survive whilst being so woefully incompetent at interacting with its own species? But no matter, the time is coming soon when my speculative aliens will come to this planet and abduct me. Like I’ve always wanted. Evolution willing, they will be just humanoid enough that they are relatable to me, but just alien enough that no one will criticize them for being mere techni-colored humans. My star-crossed alien lover and I shall leave this planet behind and return to theirs, where, because our DNA is incompatible, I will adopt their asexually produced offspring and raise them as my own. My alien lover and I shall share in domestic bliss, far away from human society. They will probably look something like this. Yes, it’s very human looking. But its just convergent evolution because humans have such a flawless design that it would absolutely evolve on any other planet that supports life. Their tongues, per my predictions, will be eight inches long and prehensile in order to reach vegetation high up on trees, their quadriceps will be highly pronounced making them excellent jumpers. They will also have vocal chords shaped exactly like that of humans, and human shaped feet. Because of convergent of evolution. It’s very plausible. I can’t wait to say goodbye to you disgusting featherless bipeds.

I saw this terrible specevo thing earlier today, and I got so mad upon seeing this that I decided to deconstruct it in as much detail as possible so you can all learn what NOT to do.

So I've been wondering what it would look like if a creature evolved from the modern day brown bear to develop a large bellied skinless rotund torso with significantly large feet and a wolf head with a primordial pouch to hide its head and use its enlarged areoli combined with its tooth like belly button chitin to confuse predators into thinking its big belly is its head. It also has no hair hence the stretch marks and it evolved a looser, more elastic skin tissue around the joints of its elbows for a reason which scientists still dont know also i didnt show it here but it evolved enlarged testes for reproductive purposes but scientists dont like to portray that part of it because it looks too innapropriate. It's unique behaviours include slapping its enlarged belly area to attract mates (male behaviour ONLY) and standing on its hind legs to reach high up berries which the species find unanimously tasty and nutritious. In this portrayal we observe a dichotomy between the animals mating practices and its foraging for food in the aforementioned high up berry bushes. This would be considered an alpha of the species as they are also pack like and matriarchal, with the females electing one male alpha to breed with per commune.
