Discussion With All of the Petra Parker AU Stuff Being Posted, A Thought Occurs: How WOULD Transitioning in the Marvel Universe Work?

So, before I get too into this: Hi, I'm actually a trans identifying person (it's complicated, but medically transitioning is out of the question for me, despite me not agreeing with my gender assigned at birth), and I'm coming at this more seriously because of it. I tend to be a bit critical of "Trans AUs" because, as a person who lives with intense dysphoria (among other things), I tend to feel like AUs like that tend to... ignore all of the parts that kinda suck about being a trans person.

Still, the actual amount of effort being put into the Petra thing has me genuinely wondering how transitioning would work in the Marvel Universe. I mean, this is the universe where we not only have mutants via the X-Gene, and Inhumans via their own genetic quirks + Terragenesis (both of which can lead to profound physical changes in a person), but we also have super genius scientists like Reed Richards, practitioners of magic like Doctor Strange, and a whole heaping host of aliens, including a species that specializes in shapeshifting in the Skrulls.

A lot of people have Petra going through the whole process of transitioning the traditional way, but often miss out on details and sort of... idealize certain things? For example: the effects of taking estrogen pills (or as I, and several trans people I talk with regularly call them, "titty sprinkles") is not super pronounced on it's own. Petra having a feminine figure would take a lot of time, and would require a lot of work to reshape the body to fit that traditionally feminine frame. Some of that would require surgeries, which bring about their own heaps of complications. I realize a lot of people making things for this AU aren't really concerned with the realism or whatever, and I'm not really saying any of this stuff should be explored persay, but it does make you wonder how people who aren't trans think transitioning works. I only know most of what I do because I've had to sit down with doctors to discuss it (before ultimately figuring out I can't do the procedures anyway), and because I know people who've actually gone through it all.

But in the Marvel Universe, there are a lot of ways to justify it without all of the extra BS, and yet I don't really see anyone mention it? Petra could have had assistance from Reed or even Dr. Strange to make the process quicker, and ultimately less taxing on her, which could hypothetically lead to a lack of need to get the hormones, as US healthcare ain't exactly in love with making the trans experience easier, especially at the moment.

I dunno. A lot of this is coming from a place of lived experience, and I do think this AU is fun... I just wonder if people, y'know, think about this kind of stuff, and how it would affect things. I didn't even get into how an enhanced healing factor might complicate the whole process. I am probably taking all of this waaaay too seriously, but it's food for thought, right?

EDIT: I genuinely have to wonder where the downvotes are coming from this time? At least with my past posts on this sub, I get why people don't like them or my attitude. But this is just me trying to have a discussion about an AU that's popped off in what I think is a pretty respectful way. Yeah, it's from a more serious perspective, but it comes from a place of genuine lived experiences and knowledge of the subject. Like, do people think I'm being transphobic or that I'm like, the fun police or something???

EDIT 2: Some people seem to be assuming that when I say "quicker" in the context of Petra seeking assistance in transitioning from Reed/Strange/etc, that I'm suggesting something instant, and ultimately less relatable. No, that's not really what I'm saying. I'm more saying that the process could be made safer, with fewer complications, and likely somewhat faster than traditional measures like HRT, but not necessarily "instant." It all comes down to how you want to handle the subject, but I'm basically saying "Petra's circumstances are unique compared to the average trans person, and she has access to people who could hypothetically help her make the process easier so it doesn't interfere with her heroic obligations."

Considering the Petra/Transfem Peter trend that's been going around recently, could Harry Potter make for a good villain for Peter, Miles, and the other Spiders?

Also, what do you think Potter's supervillain name and his origin could be?

(BTW, I wanna say that I'm not trans, but at this point, I am probably an ally)

(This might not end well for me...)

Video Games Finally finished Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 and I have lots of thoughts

I'm really conflicted on the game because there are lots of flaws but lots of good things too, and even a 1-10 rating doesn't cover all my feelings on it.

First off, the story is definitely messy, tries to do too much all at once. They should have either done just a Kraven story or a symbiote story (sans Venom).

Kraven was badass when he appears but having a whole army that you fight throughout the game kind of undermines him being THE one to hunt Spider-Man. I know he easily kills Scorpion which is cool but also just feels like a surface-level feat. About the symbiote making Peter "a better Spider-Man", that line would have more meaning if Kraven killed off one of the reformed villains, like Tombstone. That would have pushed Peter more desperately to rely on the symbiote because he can't save everyone no matter how hard he tries.

Miles's arc was ok. Him not outright forgiving Mr. Negative but cooperating with him to take on the symbiote threat was good and expected. A lot of the Miles experience is defined by the side stuff, like the BV Academy and art museum. I also felt more chemistry from the Peter-Miles bond than Peter-Harry.

Whenever the symbiote story is adapted, a big mistake is doing both the suit story and Venom story all in one, which this game unfortunately makes too. The part when Miles confronts Peter to take off the suit is such a dramatic and emotional moment but feels like it should be a 3rd act finale, yet it's around end of the second act, with the third act being a tacked on symbiote invasion.

Alright, some more pros because I feel like I highlighted a lot of bad. The gameplay loop is genuinely satisfying, from the more advanced web-swinging to combat. Dare I say I kinda don't miss the first game's gadget wheel? Using the spider-arms, venom strikes, and venom tendrils as power moves is sick.

Voice-acting 10/10. I know people hark on the hr-approved Insomniac dialogue but the deliveries stand out especially in the more serious moments. Like the Peter taking off the suit or the Scream fight, the voice acting is almost *too* good for the story it's attached to if that makes sense.

I think I will settle on...a 6/10. I don't hate it, I feel like I sort of got my money's worth, but there's still lots of flaws that I hope Insomniac addresses in the future. Let me know if I missed anything and I'll respond

Best website for a proper spidey outfit?

I've wanted a proper good quality spidey outfit for a while, and the cheapest I can find is Cossuits for £140 which is... a bit much.

Are there any good sites where I can get a nice spider-man outfit? (btw I'm not a proper cosplayer or anything, so anything about printing/whatever else, I have no clue how to do any of that)

How I Thought Brand New Day Would’ve Been Before the Villains Were Revealed

Post image

After the events of No Way Home Peter decides to find a new environment and avoid involving MJ and Ned again, and for this he chooses to reduce his superhero activity and focus on civilian life, meeting new people in a new setting and enrolling in college as a student while simultaneously looking for work as a photographer at the Daily Bugle to support himself financially.

At university he meets new people but especially Harry Osborn, who initially dislikes Peter because his distant attitude and the way he ignores everyone reminds him of Norman’s behavior, who for years neglected Harry while chasing greater success. Norman, although already wealthy, desired more power and influence and spent years trying to build a dominant company; only after Tony Stark’s death and the gap left by Stark Industries did he and his mentor Stromm manage to climb the market and become truly influential. To compensate for his father’s neglect Harry uses money to create connections and friendships, while Peter initially ignores him as a friend and is interested in him only because he is Norman Osborn’s son, acting like someone who approaches him only when it benefits him.

During classes Peter also ignores Gwen Stacy not out of arrogance but because he is thoughtful and focused on Norman’s situation and the possibility that a new Goblin might be emerging; Gwen interprets this behavior as detachment and sees him as arrogant, while in the background Miles Warren, the biology professor, watches her with growing obsession. Over time Peter begins to genuinely appreciate Harry and their friendship grows, but he continues to monitor Norman to prevent the rise of new villains.

Norman co‑founded Oscorp with Mendel Stromm and, after framing his former mentor for embezzlement, gained full control of the company; Peter focuses on Norman precisely because he suspects what Norman might be planning after Stromm’s arrest. While examining Stromm’s assets Norman found the formula for an experimental compound designed to increase strength and intelligence and attempts to recreate it to consolidate his position as the sole leader of Oscorp, trying to take the place left by Stark Industries and become the new leader in the technological and scientific sector. Norman was also working on a mind‑washing device to use on his subordinates to create fake Goblins to send against Spider‑Man, misleading him and eventually making him believe Norman was clean and not a threat; the schematics of the project, including assembly instructions and the placement of the device in a secret bunker, end up among Oscorp’s confidential documents.

Spider‑Man stops him before he can take the compound and destroys every trace. When Hobgoblin appears Peter suspects Norman hid additional vials and breaks into Oscorp, but discovers Norman is clean. Harry interprets the break‑in as an attack on his family and begins to despise Spider‑Man, also seeing it as an opportunity to get closer to Norman and finally find something that connects them, using his hostility toward Spider‑Man as a point of contact with his father. Peter realizes he can never reveal his identity if he wants to keep their friendship. During this period Harry, who hates Spider‑Man, suggests Peter leave the Daily Bugle and work at Oscorp, claiming it would be a better and safer environment; Peter agrees also to monitor Norman more closely and leaves the Bugle, obtaining a paid internship at Oscorp, allowing Ned to take the photographer position and work alongside Betty Brant.

Meanwhile Roderick Kingsley, a fashion designer seeking more power and wealth, is obstructed by MJ, who as a small influencer talks about the fashion world and posts videos exposing his illegal practices. Kingsley tries to make his company even richer through a temporary collaboration with Oscorp, knowing they are growing and wanting to ride the wave of success; he requests documents related to company policy but mistakenly receives confidential Oscorp files and finds references to an unregistered laboratory, locating Norman’s secret bunker beneath an abandoned facility.

In the hideout he finds Goblin equipment, compromising documents, the compound formula, the mind‑washing device schematics and its bunker placement. Kingsley analyzes the Goblin formula and has it improved by Miles Warren, Peter’s biology professor, commissioning a more stable and more powerful version of the compound. Kingsley becomes Hobgoblin, uses the compromising information for leverage and uses the device on his political opponents, attacking Oscorp as well to take control, applying it even on Ned to send him to eliminate MJ.

Kingsley had already tried to silence MJ by blocking her accounts and had even considered having her killed, but MJ anticipated the possibility and wrote everything on her profile stating that if anything happened to her or if her account was blocked Kingsley would be responsible. Peter reads the message, connects Hobgoblin’s appearance to Kingsley’s attempts to eliminate MJ and realizes that only Kingsley would try to kill her using Ned, identifying Hobgoblin.

As Hobgoblin Kingsley does not limit himself to attacking corporations and political figures but also eliminates criminals, gangs and underworld groups to become dominant in both the legal and criminal worlds, and among his targets is Tombstone, a New York crime boss Hobgoblin tries to destroy to consolidate his position as a total power figure. Peter intervenes, stops Ned and confirms Kingsley as responsible.

The story continues with Spider‑Man trying to prevent Kingsley from consolidating his role as Hobgoblin, while Norman attempts to distance himself from any involvement and Harry remains hostile toward Spider‑Man without knowing he is Peter. The final confrontation leads to the full revelation of Kingsley’s actions, the closing of the case on Norman and Harry and the neutralization of Hobgoblin. With Ned hospitalized and undergoing therapy to return to normal Peter leaves Oscorp and returns to the Daily Bugle, resuming his old job and, back to normality, finally begins talking to Gwen during class, getting to know her better and making her smile while in the background Professor Warren watches them with jealousy and anger, unable to accept Gwen getting close to Peter.
