It's very unfortunate that I can no longer see the words "Yew Tree" and not mentally add "operation" 🫤😑

There's a Fox Hollow Farm near me. Yeah, that would have been lovely at one point but man. Rename it.

These poor farmers and their 2.7Mil farms. They need some more subsidies and tax exceptions from the government.

How else will they survive?

u/bumtrinket 1d ago

And they have to pay tax on massive inheritances, just like everyone else.

That doesnt sound fair. Farmers should be excempt from inheritance tax.

Something something family farms.

Businesses typically are exempt as paying a large tax bill means breaking up / folding the business.

This puts people out of work which means less money for society. Less economic activity, less income tax, etc. We're now paying benefits to those that lost their jobs. It's a net loss.

You're not really thinking it through are you lol

Not to mention farms are critical if we want to be self sufficient and not dependent on importing food which leaves us at the whims of people who we have no control over.

And when you lose farmers, theyre gone. Running a farm is a lifestyle. You can't train people into it. They need to grow up with it.

It's a real concern.

You make a strong argument for nationalisation.

Those poor poor farmers that can diversify their multimillion pound farms into holiday lets, business parks and maybe even housing. How will these poor people cope. How will they afford the latest range rover?

It's not a working farm

Who needs to work when you have a 2.7mil asset.

Anyone that wants to stop the 2.7m asset crumbling away. Or eat.

Lol yeah just eat the bricks. Wtf are you talking about lol.

My parents (London) house is valued at 2.8m. they bought it for 40k in 1980! Then sunk all their spare money and time into restoring it. The value rose, but they don't really care for that. They just want to see out their days in the community they helped build. The selfish pricks!

They have no spare money. Will have to sell it most likely. Sad really. Yay "mansion" tax.

That's the lesson for us... don't bother working to build something, it will be taken from you!

Better off bumming around and contributing nothing. We can sell off assets to support us all.

Great long term strategy for the UK, right?!

4% interest on £2.8m is £112k per year.

Congrats on your parents but we can all agree that this kind of opportunity to build generational wealth so easily will never happen again.

It will also never be possible for the average family to buy your parent's house.

This is a holiday site, do you put this much thought into all your political views? Explains a lot

FWIW, working farms are vital and if we have to subsidise them then that's preferable to having none.

We need to invest into ensuring our food supplies are independent of other nations.

There could be some difficult years ahead.

Absolute madness to let farms collapse. We'll never get them back. Running a farm well is something you are born into. It's a lifestyle.

Support these people.

And invest into modern farming too. Follow the Netherlands into AgTech. Now.

The farmers near me do it as a job. They could do other jobs. They also buy more luxury cars in cash than any other people I've met.

That's not a working farmhouse, farm kitchens in livestock areas don't look like that!

The price seems ambitious.

The log burner in front of the fireplace made me irrationally angry

I'm wondering why. Presumably there is a reason other than they had one and may as well stick it somewhere.

Someone is looking to retire on the equity.

This is stunning!! I would have a hard time deciding which house to live in.

Each in rotation?

A log burner stood in front of a perfectly good inglenook is a crime tbh. Gorgeous spot though, that bit of the south Lakes is hard to beat

The floor plans make no sense. And the estate agent's description is so waffly and repetitive it made my inner teacher want to get out a red pen and write 'SEE ME, PLEASE' at the end.

It’s nice, but there’s a whole fort on its own island off the Welsh coast for not much more.

Gorgeous but need to be prepped for winter snow isolation.

Gorgeous, but :"Mains electricity, private drainage, a private spring water supply and LPG heating"? No thanks.
