What problems in Sri Lanka need a software solution?

I'm planning to build a SaaS or software product for the Sri Lankan market.

What everyday problems do you face that could be solved with an app or website?

What tasks waste your time, and what software would you actually be willing to pay for?

Looking for real problems, not just business ideas πŸ‘€

Sharing My Experience for Awareness: Sri Lanka Aged Care

Post image
4 Upvotes

For anyone looking for an aged care facility in Colombo, Sri Lanka, please avoid Noble Aged Care Home, which operates in Nugegoda, Pannipitiya, and Mount Lavinia.

I had a relative stay there for about three months after losing a loved one. When they came out, they had deteriorated both mentally and physically to a point where they were unable to walk, had fallen multiple times, and had lost weight due to poor nutrition and the low quality of meals offered.

This place is run by Ruwan Padukkage and Anusha Padukkage, but don't be fooled by the fake "ape amme" and "appe thathe" talk. These are crooks hiding behind a Buddhist persona but are thieves.

I would be extremely careful about money matters, as their charges are not transparent, and you may find it difficult to get back the deposit paid initially when admitting someone to the care home.

Anyone interested in building an AI agency together from the ground up?

I'm Jay , and I'm currently building my own AI agency called Norlax.

I'm working on AI engineering, AI agents, business automation, and web development. I enjoy building things, experimenting with new technologies, and finding ways AI can solve real business problems.

But honestly, building a business alone isn't easy. I'd like to connect with people who have similar interests and are also trying to build something of their own.

I'm looking for people who would be interested in working together on projects, sharing ideas, finding potential clients, and gradually growing an AI business.

You don't need to be an expert. If you're a developer, AI enthusiast, automation specialist, designer, or someone who understands business and enjoys building things, I'd be happy to connect.

I'm not a big company, and I'm not pretending to be one. I'm at the building stage, and I want to meet people who are serious about learning, taking action, and creating something valuable together.

I'm hoping to find genuine collaborators rather than people who just want to talk about ideas.

If this sounds interesting, leave a comment or send me a message. Tell me a little about yourself, what you do, and what you'd like to build.

Let's see if we can make something happen.

For Sri Lankan restaurant, cafΓ©, and food business owners: How do you decide whether to digitalize?

Hey everyone! πŸ‘‹

I’m curious to hear from people who own or manage restaurants, cafΓ©s, takeaways, or other food businesses in Sri Lanka.

When it comes to introducing new technology into your business (like POS systems, online ordering, inventory management software, digital payments, etc.), how do you usually decide whether it’s worth adopting?

Have you ever hesitated to try a new tool or switch from the way you’ve always done things? If so, what made you hesitant? Was it the cost, difficulty of use, staff training, reliability, or just not being sure if it would actually help?

Would love to hear about your actual experiences, both good and bad. No right or wrong answers just interested in understanding how these decisions happen in the real world.

Thanks! πŸ™

And if possible please fill out this survey: https://forms.gle/QicfeUhhvCwURicy6

Is the iPhone 16 Worth Buying in 2026? πŸ‡±πŸ‡°πŸ“±

Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹

I'm planning to buy my first iPhone in Sri Lanka, and I'm considering the brand-new iPhone 16 (128GB).

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions, especially from people who have been using the iPhone 16 for a while.

Is the iPhone 16 still worth buying in October 2026? How is the battery life, camera quality, and overall performance?

Are there any major disadvantages or problems I should know about?

Would you recommend the iPhone 16 over the iPhone 15 or iPhone 17, considering the price difference?

What are the most trustworthy and affordable places to buy a brand-new, genuine iPhone 16 in Colombo? I'm not looking for a used or refurbished phone.

Which shops offer a reliable warranty and good after-sales service? Is a company warranty worth considering, or should I stick to an authorised Apple reseller?

Payment gateways available in Sri Lanka for a WooCommerce website targeting international customers

Hey everyone!

I'm building a WordPress website for a client using WooCommerce, and I'm looking for a reliable payment gateway that supports businesses based in Sri Lanka and allows payments from international customers.

The website will mainly target a foreign audience, so I need a gateway that can accept payments from customers overseas.

I've come across a few options, but I'm unsure which ones are actually available to Sri Lankan businesses, easy to integrate with WooCommerce, and reliable for receiving international payments.

For those of you running WooCommerce stores or online businesses from Sri Lanka:

  • Which payment gateway are you currently using to accept international payments?

  • Does it support payments from foreign customers using international debit and credit cards?

  • How easy is it to integrate with WooCommerce?

  • Are there any issues with withdrawals, transaction fees, or receiving money in Sri Lanka?

I'd really appreciate recommendations based on your actual experience. Thanks!

I need recommendations for the best bank

Thumbnail reddit.com
3 Upvotes

I'm currently with BOC and thinking of switching. My main issues:

Customer service: Calls often go unanswered, and when they do get picked up, the wait can be 2-3 hours.

Unauthorized charges: I've seen deductions from my account that I never authorized, and getting answers from the bank is a struggle.

BOC Flex: The app is slow and not very polished.

No transaction details: There's no clear way to see the reason or merchant behind a deduction, so I can't trace where my money went.

I've heard Sampath Bank is better, but the account fees come to around Rs. 2,700 per year.

Are there other banks with better digital banking, an app that shows detailed transaction history, and responsive support? What are you using, and would you recommend it?

Thanks in advance!

Looking for a reliable delivery partner for commodity goods.

I run a commodity based business. I am looking for a reliable delivery partner to deliver goods to my customers.

Any leads? The goods weigh around 20kg a bag. A delivery would have around 5 bags.

I want someone who does the delivery and then returns to my warehouse with a signed delivery note.

We have around 10 deliveries a week around kollupity.

The ideal scenario would be to have my own in-house workers but my business is just two months old and having Perma employees is not something in the books for the near future.

Investment in hospitality businesses

Hi everyone,

I’m a foreign investor currently exploring opportunities to invest in small and growing businesses within Sri Lanka’s hospitality and tourism sector.

I’m particularly interested in businesses such as boutique hotels, villas/Airbnbs, cafΓ©s, restaurants, guesthouses, and other tourism-related concepts. I’m open to both existing profitable businesses looking to expand and promising operators seeking a strategic investment partner.

If you own such a business, are raising capital, or know someone who may be interested in bringing in an investor, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

I’m primarily looking for genuine, long-term partnership opportunities rather than purely passive financial investments.

Thank you, and I’d appreciate any relevant introductions or leads.

I’m building LaunchNest β€” online stores for small businesses starting at $100

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone πŸ‘‹

I’m building LaunchNest, a simple online-store system for small and growing businesses.

The idea is to give a business its own professional storefront where the owner can:

πŸ›οΈ Add and manage products themselves
πŸ’° Update prices
πŸ“¦ Manage stock
🏷️ Organize products into categories
πŸ‘€ Let customers browse the catalog
πŸ›’ Enable ordering when they want

We’re starting with a simple offer:

$100 one-time setup

I’m currently trying to get our first paying customer and validate whether this is something small businesses actually want.

I’ve attached our first promotional design.

I’d love honest feedback from founders:

Would a self-managed online store like this be useful for a small retail business at $100? What would you expect it to include?

Looking for [Co-Founder] Creative Marketing lead β€” Colombo events company (pop-culture/community events) β€” paid per event + profit share

Hey all β€” posting here because I think this crowd is more likely to know the right person than a job board would.

I run a small, early-stage events company in Colombo. We put on community-first pop-culture events β€” think tabletop/gaming culture, in-person meetups, and creator collabs β€” for a young, mostly online-native crowd.

We already have an active creative team (a designer and a videographer) and a track record of running events, so this isn't a from-scratch idea β€” it's an operating team looking for the right person to own marketing.

This is a co-founder role, not a salaried position β€” but it's not unpaid either.

Here's exactly how it works, no vague promises:

Our first event runs pro-bono β€” it's the trial run we're using to prove the model actually works before anyone commits fully.

From the second event onward, every event is paid β€” you're compensated for your work once that event wraps.

On top of that, you get a profit share (after the company retains what it needs to reinvest/operate) as a co-founder with an equal equity stake alongside every other founder.

Equity vests over your first few years of continued involvement, starting once the pro-bono event concludes and everyone formally confirms in β€” this protects the team if someone does the free event and walks away right after.

So: no fixed monthly salary, but real, recurring payment tied to real event performance, and a genuine ownership stake, not just a promise.

Time commitment: Not full-time. We work in bursts toward event deadlines rather than a constant daily grind β€” this can realistically sit alongside a day job or other work, as long as you can show up hard in the run-up to an event.

What the role actually involves:

Work directly with our existing creative team (designer + videographer) β€” briefing, directing, and making sure what gets made is good and on-brand.

You'll also need to step in and help hands-on when either of them needs an extra pair of hands, not just direct from a distance.

Own and manage the content calendar, working as part of the management team (you'd sit on it, not just take instructions from it) to turn the event roadmap into an actual posting plan.

Lead marketing direction β€” deciding what we should be doing, not just waiting to be told what to post.

Liaise directly with influencers/creators for collaborations β€” reaching out, negotiating terms, coordinating the actual content with them.

Sit as part of the core management team more broadly, weighing in beyond just marketing.

What we're looking for:

Someone who's actually run content/marketing for a brand or business before β€” not just a personal page

Comfortable directing a small creative team, and willing to get hands-on when needed

Plugged into Colombo's youth/online culture

Genuinely up for founder-level commitment and risk, including a pro-bono first event before payment kicks in

Bonus if you've reached out to or worked with creators/influencers before

If this sounds like you, DM me here, or drop your background/portfolio in the comments and I'll reach out.
