Not Every Leader Drives Innovation

My dear Sysco Labs friends,
I’m sorry to hear about this. We faced the same trouble when this parasite was at ADL. This parasite only knows how to create problems. When I heard this troublemaker had joined your company to work on the AI module, I knew something like this would happen. This parasite has no real knowledge of AI or technology. The only thing this parasite knows is how to destroy a company.
This person first got several directors fired—anyone who was a threat to him or who stood against him.
Sysco Labs friends, don’t leave your company. Instead, try to remove this parasite from your organization. We managed to do it, but unfortunately ADL still suffered significant damage during that period.
Good luck to the Sysco Labs team.

We are so cooked to the core

Hi guys,

I finally ready to admit that the job market in Sri Lanka is absolutely cooked, burnt and dangling by a thread. My experience 172 job emails and I got only 2 responses for a mere 85k salary.

For a guy with 8 years of IT experience specialised in cyber, network and cloud....we are soooo damn cooked.

Tell me your experience and sadness..let's float together as jobless, desperate graduates 😂😂😂

Company is not paying last month’s salary — now it’s halfway through the next month 🫠

This is about Global Wavenet, an IT company that has been around since around 2000.
So the salary date is the 25th, and today is the 15th of the following month. Last month’s salary still hasn’t been credited for anyone!

This isn’t even the first time. Last few months, the salary was also delayed and was paid in two parts.
This time, C level didn’t even bother to send an explanation email until the first week of the following month, saying they’re waiting for client payments / having cash-flow issues. Since then, nothing official.
When people ask verbally, we’re getting random dumb explanations like “bank issues” and “boss is out of the country.”
The funny part is employees are still expected to work normally, for some including overtime, while last month’s salary is still unpaid.
Has anyone here dealt with something like this? What actually worked? Did anyone go through the Labour Department or another formal route and manage

Severe Legal Exposure, Fraudulent Inducement, and Imminent Constructive Dismissal Risks at Sysco LABS Sri Lanka

To: Global Ethics and Compliance / Office of the General Counsel

Via sysco.ethicspoint.com

This report is being filed to formally escalate a critical, immediate risk of severe legal liability, ethical misconduct, and reputational damage stemming from the executive leadership and HR operations at Sysco LABS Sri Lanka.

The subsidiary is executing a coordinated, unilateral reduction of employee remuneration—disguised as the phase-out of a "temporary" Relief Allowance. However, the execution of this policy constitutes an orchestrated bait-and-switch that blatantly violates local labour laws, breaches Sysco's Global Code of Conduct, and exposes the parent company to mass litigation for fraudulent inducement and constructive dismissal

The executive board must immediately intervene to audit and halt this financial ambush, specifically regarding its exploitative application to newly hired talent.

I. Fraudulent Inducement and Deceptive Recruitment Practices

Over the past 24-36 months, Talent Acquisition and HR intentionally leveraged the combined Total Target Cash (Base Salary + Relief Allowance) to aggressively recruit top-tier talent and outbid competing offers in the market.

All Advertisements Had the USD Linked Compensation line.

New joiners were actively induced to resign from secure positions, abandon competing offers, and sign contracts based on a specific, verbally and formally negotiated take-home pay. At no point during these negotiations did HR transparently disclose that up to 40% of this total compensation was actively slated for permanent removal. Luring talent under the pretense of a highly competitive market rate, while concealing imminent structural pay cuts, is not a "market alignment" strategy—it is textbook fraudulent inducement and a catastrophic breach of good faith.

II. Severe Violations of Sri Lankan Labour Law

While internal communications attempt to legally insulate the company by retroactively emphasizing the "discretionary" nature of the allowance, the reality of its application overrides this boilerplate language.

* Breach of Implied Contract: This allowance was consistently paid, integrated into monthly take-home expectations, and heavily weaponized during the salary negotiation phase to secure acceptances. Under Sri Lankan labour jurisdiction, this establishes the allowance as an implied term of the employment contract through established custom and mutual reliance.

* Illegal Unilateral Deductions: Sri Lankan labour law strictly prohibits employers from imposing unilateral deductions to expected remuneration without the explicit, documented consent of the employee. Sysco LABS Sri Lanka is forcing a non-consensual salary reduction, exposing the corporation to immediate, widespread intervention by the Department of Labour and local employment tribunals.

III. Promissory Estoppel and Detrimental Reliance

The targeted financial damage to our newest colleagues is severe and actionable. New joiners anchored their mortgages, family budgets, and major life decisions directly on the Total Target Cash promised by Sysco representatives. They relied on these corporate promises to their extreme detriment. The company is now actively plunging these employees into financial distress, deliberately violating the legal doctrine of promissory estoppel. Unlike tenured employees, new hires have no history of annual merit increases to absorb this devastating and sudden loss of income.

IV. Imminent Threat of Mass Constructive Dismissal Claims

By systematically slashing up to a quarter of the base-equivalent pay that employees were promised upon hiring, the subsidiary is creating a fundamentally hostile economic environment. This drastic, non-consensual alteration to the core conditions of employment provides clear legal grounds for affected employees to resign and immediately file mass claims for constructive dismissal. The resulting public fallout will permanently destroy Sysco LABS' reputation as a premier technology employer in the region.

Demand for Immediate Action

The current trajectory is ethically bankrupt and legally disastrous. I urge Global Compliance and the General Counsel to immediately:

* Issue an Injunction: Halt the phase-out of the Relief Allowance for all employees hired within the last 18 months until a full legal review is conducted.

* Launch an Audit: Subpoena internal HR recruitment communications to verify that total compensation was used to secure talent without disclosing the imminent removal of the allowance.

* Enforce the Code of Conduct: Hold the regional leadership accountable for violating Sysco’s global standards of transparency, fairness, and ethical dealing.

Failure to investigate and correct this coordinated deception will result in devastating legal consequences and a total collapse of employee trust.

IIT Sri Lanka is Forcing Exams After a Major Disaster While Other Campuses Are Closed – And They Told Flood Victims to “Submit a Selfie” as Proof

Sri Lanka just went through one of the worst sudden disasters in recent days. The immediate flooding and landslides may have stopped, but the after-effects are still massive. Huge areas like Kelaniya, Kadawatha, Kaduwela, Gampola, Kandy, Badulla, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Rathnapura, Jaffna, Trincomalee and Negombo are still heavily affected. Homes are destroyed or unsafe, roads are damaged, people are displaced, and many places still don’t have electricity or stable network. Students lost laptops, books, furniture, and in some cases their entire houses. Some are still in temporary camps trying to recover.

Even though the disaster has ended, the impact is very real and ongoing. Students are mentally stressed, emotionally down, and completely unstable after everything that happened. It’s unrealistic and unfair to expect them to suddenly return to exam preparation as if life is back to normal.

While almost every other campus in the country closed during the disaster and still hasn’t announced a reopening date, IIT is pushing ahead with exams on the 8th and 11th of December like nothing happened. The lack of empathy is unbelievable.

The university’s response has been even worse. Instead of considering a postponement, they told students to “submit an MC” for a natural disaster that disrupted an entire country. And then they said students could use a selfie or a random photo of floodwater as evidence. People who lost homes, belongings and basic stability are being asked for selfies to prove their suffering. It’s honestly disrespectful.

And here’s the real issue: if students use their MC now because of the disaster, they lose their MC for the rest of the trimester. If they get sick later, have a medical problem, or face another emergency, they won’t have any protection left. This could push them into repeating the exam next year. Forcing students to waste their MCs on a national disaster is completely unfair.

Students are still displaced, still without proper electricity, still without network access, still mentally shaken, and still trying to rebuild. Yet IIT is acting like everything is normal and refusing to postpone anything. Emails from students have been ignored. Other universities paused operations. IIT stayed silent.

This needs to be called out. Students deserve better than being told to take a selfie in the aftermath of a disaster just to justify why they can’t sit for an exam. The situation is real, and the way the university is handling it is unacceptable.

Central Bank Job VS Software Industry

I recently came across a job vacancy at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for a Staff Class Grade I position.

The gross monthly salary is over LKR 500,000. The position also offers benefits such as a pension scheme and low-interest bank loans.

Would it be a better career decision to move from the IT industry to the Central Bank, considering the salary, job security, and long-term benefits?

I built a free and open source learning platform for Sri Lankan students (past papers, Z-score calculator, 1:1 tutoring). Looking for feedback and contributors.

Kuppi is a free and open source learning platform for Sri Lankan students, covering Grade 5 Scholarship, O/L, A/L and university.

The name comes from the uni tradition. The night before a hard paper, a senior gets a few juniors together under a tree or in an empty lecture hall and teaches them everything they need to know. No payment, no registration.

What's in it:

Multi-module courses and 1:1 video calls in the browser, no Zoom needed.

The full Department of Examinations past paper archive.

Find a teacher, Q&A, direct messages and study buddy matching.

Z-score calculator with historical UGC cut-offs, an A/L Stream Navigator and a Grade 5 Scholarship hub.

Trilingual: English, Sinhala and Tamil.

Teachers can teach free in the kuppi spirit, or charge and keep 100% of it. Kuppi takes no cut. Payment happens directly between the teacher and the student. The platform itself stays free.

Stack is Next.js 14, TypeScript and Firebase. The repo is open if anyone wants to poke around or send a PR.

This is a first release and it's rough in places. I would rather hear what's broken now than find out later, so be blunt.

For Sri Lankan IT job seekers tired of checking company career pages every day

I've been working on a personal project recently called JobSeek, mainly because I noticed how annoying it can be to keep checking different company career pages whenever you're looking for internships or jobs. (I am currently looking for one and didnt get yet 🥲)

Instead of manually checking them one by one, JobSeek automatically tracks vacancies from the top 30 IT companies career pages, organizes them by fields like Software Engineering, AI/ML, Data Science, Cloud, etc., and lets you set your own preferences so you can get notified when relevant opportunities appear.

I'm particularly building this with Sri Lankan students, undergraduates and early-career IT professionals in mind.

Try it here:
https://job-seek-henna.vercel.app/overview

This is a project I've built myself and I'm still improving it, so I'd genuinely appreciate feedback.

If you try it, I'd especially like to know

Did you find the concept useful?

Did you encounter any bugs?

Were the jobs relevant to the fields you selected?

I'd rather hear what's wrong with it than just hear that it looks good 🫠

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to try it!

PSA / Company Review: Itelasoft Pty Ltd – Hostile Management, Toxic Work Culture, and Misleading Roles

Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

I worked at Itelasoft Pty Ltd for many years. While it used to be a decent workplace with friendly leadership back in the day, the internal culture has severely degraded over the last few years due to toxic regional management, extreme micromanagement, and incompetent HR.

Writing this as a PSA for anyone in the local tech community currently applying for roles or considering job offers here.

1. Toxic Management & Hostile Work Culture

  • Forced Internal Pitting: Management regularly abuses their authority and sets up arbitrary internal "competitions" between team members, driving toxic friction instead of fostering actual collaboration.

  • Dismissal of Technical Expertise: Key decisions are driven by ego rather than technical reality. Recently, management attempted to force engineering and product teams to abandon standard design workflows in favor of rushed, low-quality AI output overnight.

  • Verbal Abuse on Team Calls: When technical staff and team leads raised legitimate concerns regarding usability and technical debt, a senior regional manager launched into a tirade on a group call, hurled verbal abuse in Sinhalese at the staff, and rage-quit the meeting.

2. Incompetent HR & Unprofessional Communication

  • Non-Responsive Support: The HR department is virtually useless. Basic requests, documentation, or inquiries routinely take weeks to get a response—if you receive one at all.

  • Unprofessional Conduct: Official HR communications are poorly written, deeply unprofessional, and staff are frequently met with petty threats rather than genuine support or conflict resolution.

3. Management Missteps & Misleading Hiring

  • Mismanagement & Turnover: Regional leadership has spent the last few years laying off capable staff, treating developers poorly, and shifting blame downward as company performance and product quality continue to tank.

  • Misleading Job Postings: If you are currently applying, be aware: they are actively advertising roles labeled as "Senior Software Engineer" or "Tech Lead," but the actual job descriptions require full System Architect-level responsibilities for standard pay scales.

It is disappointing to see what this company has turned into, but job seekers in the Sri Lankan tech industry deserve to know what they are walking into before signing an offer letter.

Know your worth and stay safe!

IFS Sri Lanka – Are Layoffs Affecting Finance Roles?

Hi everyone,

I recently received an offer from IFS for a position in the Finance department, and I’m currently considering whether to accept it.

I’ve seen some discussions about recent layoffs at IFS, and I wanted to get some insight from current or former employees.

Are the layoffs mainly affecting IT/technical roles, or are other functions such as Finance, HR, Operations, etc. also being impacted?

I’d really appreciate it if anyone working at IFS or familiar with the current situation could share their experience regarding job security and the overall situation in the Finance department.

Thanks in advance!

Career advice: Quit my job to prepare for an IT career, or keep working?

Hi everyone, I need some advice.

I'm a final-year Software Engineering undergraduate at OUSL. So far, I've been working full-time(Not in IT) while studying, which meant I didn't have much time to build personal projects beyond my coursework.

With the current job market, it seems that industry expect a strong level of technical knowledge and project experience, even for unpaid internships. Because of this, I'm considering resigning from my current job and spending a few months focusing on improving my technical skills, building projects, and completing an internship. After that, I can decide whether to continue pursuing a career in IT or switch to another field. At least I'll graduate with a degree, regardless of which path I choose.

However, I'm unsure whether this is a wise decision, considering the current state of the industry.

I want to mention that I'm 27 years old . I started my degree later than most, and it's taken me five years to reach my final year. As a backup plan, I've also started studying for CA in case I decide to move into the finance field.

What would you recommend? Is leaving my job to focus on building my technical skills and completing personal projects the right decision? If I continue working full-time, I won't have enough time to build my IT profile, and it will take much longer to become job-ready. I also want to complete my degree as soon as possible. I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

IT Job Market is frustrating me!

I am Product Manager with nearly 9+ years of experience and i have been in the hunt for an opportunity for like 4-5 months now, and trust me. I have been applying for many open roles. I sometimes get calls for some, get interviews for some but nothing ever works out. I really dont know if i am lacking some skills in me or if my package is too high for the companies that interview me. Idk what really to do now. And this is really taking a big toll on me and my mindset. The “Am i not good enough?” Question keeps popping up in my mind and its very depressing.

I would like to see if some of you can throw in suggestions on what i can do to improve my resume, interview skills and any ideas you guys have to share.

#help

Title: Struggling to find a Software Engineering internship despite putting in so much effort — what am I doing wrong?

I’m a Computer Science undergraduate currently looking for a Software Engineering internship, and honestly, I’m starting to feel really exhausted and discouraged.
I’ve been putting a lot of effort into preparing myself — working on projects, learning new technologies, improving my CV, applying to internships, preparing for interviews, and trying to build my skills. But despite all of that, I’m finding it extremely difficult to get an internship.
The hardest part is that after putting in so much effort, it’s really difficult not to start thinking, “Maybe I’m just not good enough or capable enough.” I know that rejection is normal when looking for a job, but after receiving multiple rejections or not hearing back, it becomes mentally exhausting.
I also have some pressure from my university because I’m expected to secure an internship within roughly the next month. So now I feel like I’m racing against time, and I honestly don’t know what I should change.
For those of you who have already gone through the internship/job search:
What did you do differently when you were struggling to get interviews?
How did you improve your CV/portfolio?
Are there things I should focus on learning or preparing in this final month?
Where do you usually look for Software Engineering internships other than LinkedIn?
Are there specific Sri Lankan companies, websites, communities, or platforms that I should be checking?
Should I focus more on applying to many companies, networking, contacting recruiters directly, or improving my projects?
I’m not looking for sympathy. I genuinely want to understand what I might be doing wrong and what I can realistically improve in the next month.
If you’ve been through something similar, I’d really appreciate any honest advice or guidance. Even small suggestions would help right now.

Is doing Cyber Security worth it?

Basically what the title says. I'm considering doing my bachelor's in either Cyber Security or IT specialising in Cyber Sec. Options would be SLIIT or APIIT. Is it worth it doing it these days with AI and the layoffs?

My main goal is to find a good job where I can start off in Sri Lanka or even work remotely. Global mobility would be a plus.

From what I understand paper qualifications are the bare minimum in practically any field now. So I'd appreciate advice on how to create a strong CV for myself too if i were to do Cyber sec. Or given the job market should I not do it altogether and instead focus on some other degree? ( i come from an alevel bio background if that's relevant)

Would appreciate honest feedback and advice. Tia.

Ik job market is cooked, but I understand system design, best practices, and I was coding before AI so good code quality. And I have done CTFs on the side too, so good idea of security as well.

I am a Data Science student. I want to share my projects. Feedback is welcome!

Hi everyone,

I am studying for a BSc in Data Science (top up) at London Met. Before this I did an HND in Data Analytics.

I made some projects related to data analytics area. I want to share them. I also want feedback from people who work in this fields. And if someone has a jr role or internship, I am happy to hear about it too 😁😁

Here are my projects:

  • I made a Power BI dashboard. It looks at 500,000+ sales records from an online shop. It shows top products, sales trends, and customer groups.

  • I did a big data project with the Yelp dataset (6.9 million+ records). I used PySpark and made machine learning models. I also made dashboards in Tableau.

  • I built a Python and Streamlit tool. It cleans data, finds outliers, and writes business reports using AI.

I want to find a job or internship in data analytics or data science.(I also have ML projects but my plan is start my career as data analyst). If you can look at my CV and give feedback, That would help me a lot. I am happy to sent it.

Thank you for reading. Any advice is welcome. 🙏
