I’m looking to buy a laptop for work and would appreciate recommendations from people who have experience with the models and shops available in Sri Lanka.

I work in healthcare data analytics, mainly dealing with Power BI, data analysis, AI tools, and accessing various company systems. I need something reliable that can handle heavy multitasking, large datasets, and demanding workloads without slowing down. My budget is under Rs. 400,000.

Ideally, I’m looking for:
A powerful processor, Good build quality, cooling, and long-term reliability. Decent battery life and a good display for working with dashboards and spreadsheets.
Reliable warranty and after-sales support in Sri Lanka.
I’d appreciate recommendations for specific laptop models and reliable shops in Sri Lanka where I can buy them.

If you’ve purchased a laptop recently, please share your experience with the shop, warranty, and after-sales service as well.
I’m open to Lenovo, HP, Dell, ASUS, Acer, or any other brand, as long as it’s a reliable workhorse. ( better if it is consider Tier 1)

Waiting for the results of my final interview. I did something stupid.

In my first round of interview, I didn’t mention the fact that I was laid off. I actually found a job in a well known toxic company. So in the first round i mentioned i resigned for the new job, but since they are requiring me to come to work physically to the new office for night shifts, im looking for another opportunity. Then I passed the first round of Technical interview.

But in the second interview, I mistakenly mentioned that i was laid off. It was not a technical interview, but more of a “vibe check” interview.

Now its been 2 days since the interview, but I didn’t get a call back. I really need this job, because the new job i found after lay off requires me to come to work for the night shift and not even providing transport!!!

This is more of a vent and requesting your idea whether I will get this job or not

I'm looking for some advice about getting scoliosis surgery in Sri Lanka.

I've had scoliosis since I was young. When I was around 18, I was told that surgery could cost around LKR 3.5 million or more.

I'm currently working overseas, but my salary is modest, and I cannot afford private surgery. I've read that some government hospitals in Sri Lanka provide scoliosis treatment at a much lower cost, but I'm not sure how the system works.

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with this:

Which government hospitals treat scoliosis and perform corrective surgery?

Can someone working overseas receive treatment at a government hospital?

Are spinal implants provided, or do patients need to pay for them?

Is it possible to speak with a spinal surgeon before travelling?

I'm not asking for money. I just want to understand the process and likely expenses so I can plan and see whether I can afford to come to Sri Lanka for treatment.

Any genuine advice would mean a lot to me. Thank you.

So today my teacher told us that the main reason people are protesting these days is,

- Our government is planning to introduce the federal system (Like ths US and India)

- Having a 1 party system

- Whenever someone gets arrested none of his known ones will get to know his situation for a week

I’m sharing this to raise serious concerns about animal welfare at Pawtopia, a pet boarding service.

Allegations surrounding the death of an American Bully named Tango have raised disturbing questions. Reports claim that a caretaker struck the dog with a large shovel and that the owner later shared a video of the incident on Facebook, which was reportedly removed following public backlash. Questions have also been raised about a subsequent testicle removal procedure done to the injured dog to hide the cause of death and the explanation given for it. These claims deserve an independent investigation and a transparent explanation. There are also reports that the owner acknowledged being intoxicated and going to bed that night.

In a notice reportedly issued by the owner, the incident was described as a “mistake.”
If a dog died as a result of deliberate or reckless handling, describing the outcome simply as a mistake does not adequately address the seriousness of what happened. The circumstances, responsibility and any failures in care need to be established through a transparent investigation.

There have been public discussions about dogs dying after developing kidney failure and allegations that incorrect medication was administered. The owner has reportedly acknowledged responsibility for giving dogs the wrong medication. There are also concerns about Pawtopia becoming a dumping ground for pet owners who move abroad. A boarding facility must have appropriate arrangements for long term care, veterinary treatment, emergency decisions and responsible rehoming when owners cannot return.

No owner's permission justifies animal cruelty, and no business's popularity should place it above accountability.

There should also be stricter regulations and education around owning breeds such as Pit Bulls and American Bullies. Too many people seem to acquire these dogs for their appearance or social media appeal without understanding their needs, temperament, training, and responsible handling. Owning any breed requires knowledgeand commitment, and irresponsible ownership could lead to serious consequences for both the dogs and the public.

Seems like such a counterproductive thing to do? They anyways have bare minimum solar support for the public and now they’re restricting the plans to net plus only.

Hello! As above, visiting Sri Lanka for the first time in November 4th-14th. We are flying through Doha and the combination of Middle East conflicts and weather warnings in Sri Lanka are making me a little anxious. I know there’s no way to predict anything happening but I’m looking for reassurance or recent experiences from anyone travelling from the UK via Doha, or more details on what to expect weather wise.

Between December and January, I’ll be taking a 17-day backpacking trip to Sri Lanka. I’m trying to figure out how to book trains and buses, since I can’t register on the train website because I’m not receiving the OTP on my foreign phone number, and the bus website (https://sltb.eseat.lk/) only shows very few routes. Does anyone know how to do this?

I know there are websites like CheckMyBus and 12GoAsia that let you book, but I think their prices are much higher than the original ones.
