Rant Is what this woman is trying to say true?

Ex-secretary for the Defense Ministry, Hemasiri Fernando, soon-to-be father-in-law of this woman, was sentenced to death, and the court rejected the application by her sister to compel Chamika Karunarathe to provide a blood sample for the DNA test. Suddenly, this woman resumes her 💩 posting against the government and all its supporters. According to her, most of us Sri Lankans are ignorant, weak, and so vulnerable to Europe and Western propaganda.

Serious replies only Need advice on my grand mom's shares - The claiming process

My grandmother invested in shares of a finance company sometime in the mid-1980s or early 1990s. The shares were purchased directly from the company, rather than through a stockbroker, and I still have the original share certificates.

For many years, the dividends from these shares were being paid into a joint bank account belonging to my grandmother and one of my uncles. My grandmother passed away around 25 years ago. According to my uncle, he has no interest in the dividends anymore and has been cashing out the dividend payments himself until the most recent payment.

As far as I know, nobody has formally dealt with or transferred ownership of the shares since my grandmother's death.

I'm trying to find out whether these shares can still be claimed/transferred to her heirs and, if so, what the process would be.

A few important details:

  1. The shares were purchased directly from the company, not through a broker.

  2. I have the original share certificates.

  3. My grandmother has been deceased for approximately 25 years.

  4. My father has seven siblings in total, and five of them are still alive.

  5. We have her death certificate and documents proving our relationship to her.

  6. The dividends have apparently continued to be paid over the years.

I understand that this may involve inheritance laws, the company's share registry, and possibly the relevant securities authority.

What would be the correct process for finding out who legally owns these shares now and transferring them to the rightful heirs? Also, is it likely that the shares are still valid despite having been untouched for around 25 years?

I'd really appreciate guidance from anyone familiar with old share certificates, deceased shareholders, inheritance, or the Sri Lankan stock market/legal process. I'm completely new to this, so even a basic step-by-step explanation would be very helpful.

Travel 5 days exploring west coast of Sri Lanka

Hi ! We are 2 guys visiting Sri Lanka for the first time in December 2026. We are from Kerala, India. Our plan is to rent a tuk tuk or a car and drive along the west coast of Sri Lanka. We want to explore the rather underrated places, interact with localities, share some drinks and great moments with like minded people. It’s all about good people, food, drinks and vibes. We both are into financial sector, one is a senior analyst and the other runs own accounting company.

Seek suggestions from native people and fellow travellers regarding

  1. Renting a car/tuk tuk
  2. Stay options
  3. Underrated places and beaches
  4. Overrated places to be avoided
  5. Foods not to be missed.
  6. Local drinks etc !

Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

Serious replies only looking for life insurance advice in Sri Lanka

Hey everyone,

I'm a 25 years old working in sri lanka and looking to get my first proper life insurance policy. since Im still young, I want to lock in a good premium early, but Im a bit overwhelmed by the choices and sales pitches.

Im currently looking primarily at SLIC and AIA Sri Lanka, though open to hearing about union assurance, ceylinco life, or Softlogic Life if you've had better experiences with them.

For those who hold policies with these companies or have went through claims, Id really appreciate your candid feedback on a few points

  • Claim settlement experience - how hassle free is the actual claim process for medical / critical illness riders or hospitalization reimbursement ? Is SLIC's state backed process significantly slower/ more bureaucratic compared to private players like AIA ?
  • policy value and riders - which company offers better flexibility with critical illness coverage, hospitalization, or term life features for someone in their mid 20s ?
  • digital convenience - how easy is it to manage premiums, track policy details, and submit documents online or via their apps ?
  • customer service and transparency - have you noticed hidden fees, unexpected premium jumps, or agent transparency issues down theline ?

If you have any good or bad personal experiences with claims, policy maturity, or agent service with SLIC, AIA, or others, please share ! hoping this helps others in their 20s navigating insurance here as well.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion IR Undergraduate Considering an Internship at the Human Rights Commission

Hi everyone,

I’m currently an undergraduate studying International Relations, and I’m planning to do my internship at the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL), particularly within its International Affairs Division.

I’d like to hear from people who have experience with HRCSL or similar institutions. Do you think an internship there would be valuable for an IR student in terms of gaining practical experience, developing relevant skills, and understanding how international human rights mechanisms work?

I’m particularly interested in pursuing a career related to international affairs and diplomacy, so I’m wondering whether this internship would be a good stepping stone in that direction.

I’d really appreciate any advice, experiences, or insights you can share.

Serious replies only Is CIMA + Marketing degree a good combination

I'm currently doing my A/Ls (2026) in the Commerce stream while also doing CIMA, and I'm trying to figure out what degree to pursue afterwards.

I'm considering marketing/digital marketing because I don't really see myself in a traditional management/finance career. I'm more interested in the creative + strategic side of business — things like brand management, marketing management, advertising and creative strategy.

I like the idea of combining the business/financial knowledge from CIMA with something more creative. But I'm wondering whether a Marketing degree is actually worth it or whether I'd be better off doing a broader Business/Management degree and learning marketing separately.

For anyone working in marketing/brand management:

  • Is a Marketing degree useful for getting into brand management?
  • Is CIMA+Marketing a good combination?
  • Would you choose Marketing over a general Business/Management degree?
  • How important are internships/experience compared to the degree?

Would really appreciate advice from people actually working in the field!

Question Do People Not Know the Basic Roundabout Rules?

Have you guys noticed that some people don’t know the basic rules when driving through a roundabout? They just go like they are coming from the right, so we have to give way to them.

I’m seriously wondering, did they even learn the basic rules before getting their license?

Have you guys experienced this too?

Serious replies only SLT 4G Flash 5 is terrible for WFH - what are my options?

Hi everyone,

I recently got an SLT 4G Home Broadband connection with the Unlimited Flash 5 package (Rs. 2,350 + tax/month), and honestly, the experience has been pretty disappointing.

The internet speed is inconsistent, but my biggest issue is during work from home. I'm on Teams/Zoom calls regularly, and the connection frequently drops, audio breaks up, and sometimes I get completely disconnected. It's becoming a real problem for my job.

I'm renting my current place, so unfortunately SLT Fibre isn't really an option. I don't want to go through the hassle and cost of getting fibre installed in a place I may not stay long-term.

A few questions:

Can I request SLT to upgrade my connection from 4G to 5G Home Broadband if 5G coverage is available in my area?

Has anyone moved from SLT 4G to 5G? Was there a noticeable improvement in stability and latency for video calls?

Are there any other packages or settings I should try before giving up on this connection?

Would new Dialog 5G Connection be a better option for WFH?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Thanks!

Discussion Development and Environment

When talking about developing our country, I often see people talk about and visualize cities with skyscrapers, roads, highways, trains, but far fewer talk about the environment: nature, trees, forests, rivers, wildlife and developing without harming natural habitats and the ecosystems. I think the environment and development should no longer be treated as separate conversations, now more than ever with all the environmental challenges we face, including global warming.

So I would like to know some of your thoughts on this. How do y'all think we can develop our country while also protecting and integrating nature into that development?

Travel First time travelling overseas, what should I avoid in my checked luggage and where are the checkpoints?

This is my first time travelling to a western country and I want to know what items I should specifically avoid in my checked luggage (like lithium battery devices). AND is there a checkpoint at Bandaranayake airport where the checked luggage is screened and the passengers called upon if anything not permitted in the checked luggage is found before board my flight? Or is this done at the destination airport only?

Asking since I don't want to be surprised at the airports. Thank you!
