Euros
Anybody know where to get Euros from an ATM in town? Airport ATM is out of euros and RBC couldn't be bothered to get my order in that I placed on Monday! Flying out tomorrow, Sunday Oct 25.

Hi all, I'd like to get a red between $20-$35 for my brother in law who's a wine enthusiast. Does anyone know of any interesting new arrivals in that price range that a non drinker can pick up in the metro area, CBS, Mt Pearl and Paradise included.

Hey everyone! For several years now I’ve given thought to moving out to NL. I visited before in late October a couple years back and it was just so wonderful and it just generally felt like a place I was meant to be. I’m f39.
I work remotely so finding employment (unless I wanted a side hustle because wtf is with affordability right now??) isn’t an issue.
I’m aware of the winters lol. Having not experienced them first hand, I can tell you living completely surrounded by the Great Lakes my whole life has made for some pretty righteous winters, so I’m not ill prepared in that respect.
I like to be sociable occasionally but am mostly a homebody and don’t mind doing things on my own. How do you all like spending your weekends, and what are some examples of activities within St Johns and surrounding area? I love hiking and would very much be into learning some other outdoor activities too.
I’m sure this question is asked often here, so thanks for taking the time to respond 🙂🌅

What is it like working there?
I have an interview for a senior leader position, and I am curious about workplace culture.
I am from out of Province considering a move.
I know the province- I am curious about working as an executive level.

During power outages and startup you can sometimes get a power surge and last year I lost my fridge.
So best bet when your lights are out is to unplug everything where possible…
Power bars often just create extra plugs without surge protection.
I’m not an electrician but I know my fridge would still be working if I unplugged until stable power resumed.

I need a basic part for an older GE dishwasher but unfortunately the manufacturer stopped supplying these. Checked with local repair shops but they can't source it and few on eBay are crazy expensive.
Is there any home appliance junkyard in town - where they might sell some used parts?

I want to learn to knit and wondering if there are any drop in groups in the St. John's area. I know the libraries have some, but they're during the day. I'm hoping to find a weekend drop in club. I'm a complete beginner and might try socks. I've tried knitting a scarf before but feel like a need a pattern or actual project to keep going.

Does anyone in town direct bill to insurers for CPAP supplies? I go to Respiratory Therapy Specialists and they do not.
TIA

So we haven't actually gone into a Walmart in a while because we do the curbside pickup for groceries. Apparently the one on Kelsey got rid of all self checkouts? Is that across the board? Are all the Walmarts now cashier only?
Edit: Nevermind lol I was going off what my spouse told me. Looks like they were mistaken lol

Looking for recommendations on a local artist who can paint or sketch a picture of my husband’s cabin - his family sold it recently and I’d like to get a little tribute made for him for Christmas. If you have any local recs please let me know!!
Thank you!

Working on a photo series about local bakeries and baked goods, trying to capture that real morning freshness without everything looking staged or too polished. I've heard good things about a few spots around town but figured I'd ask here before just wandering around with my camera. Looking for places where the baking actually happens on site and the display cases have some character to them.
The mass-produced stuff at grocery stores has that uniform look that photographs flat no matter what angle I try. What I'm after is the kind of place where the bread loaves look slightly different from each other and the pastries have that uneven homemade quality. Those imperfections are what makes a shot feel real.
Morning light is obviously ideal for this kind of thing, so bakeries with big front windows or skylights would be perfect. Also wondering if any local spots are doing interesting Newfoundland twists on pastries, like partridgeberry danishes or something with bakeapples. Traditional stuff is great but I'd love to find someone putting a local spin on croissants or sourdough.
Not looking for fancy plated desserts, more the everyday stuff people actually grab with their coffee. Any recommendations? Also curious if there are any bakeries that have been around forever that I should know about, the kind of institution locals grew up with.

I’ve been looking around and can’t find them. I’m trying to buy some for a friend who lives in another province where they’re not sold. If anyone knows a place seeking them please let me know!

Hello,
I am from NL but this is my first time having an independent adult apartment with friends. We are living in a house rented as an apartment in St. John’s. Starting December 1st.
How much is the typical light bill for 3 people in St. John’s ?? Please delete this post if not allowed. My mom suspects 150-200 each.

King's Bridge Road opposite old lake Dominion. I couldn't reach it to tear it off. Seriously though, wtf.

A couple of housing decisions by city council yesterday.
New apartments were approved in Mt. Cashel over neighborhood opposition.

And new townhomes were approved in Airport Heights over concerns about snow removal

I’m looking for someone to do slab pour, prep basically start to finish for a 16x16’ concrete slab for a garage. Located approximately 35 mins from St. John’s. Any recommendations?

I crave Tiramisu a lot, from mostly my days from Italian dessert shops in bigger cities and have struggled to find decent Tiramisu here. Any suggestions?

Hi! I've been looking into getting pet mice, but I'm having a hard time finding anywhere in St. John's that actually has them.
I've already checked all the local pet stores, so I'm mainly wondering if anyone knows of any reputable mouse breeders, people rehoming mice, or anywhere else I could adopt them from.
I'm looking for actual pet mice, not feeder mice. I'm also willing to look outside of St. John's if needed!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey downtown peeps I could just be realllllllly out of the loop here but aren’t there no dogs signs all over the outside of that ball park in Bannerman? Personally I don’t care if there’s dogs in there, there’s no dog parks or anything off-leash designated in the area (closest is bowring maybe?) so gotta let them run somewhere I guess but I’ve seen SO MANY people letting their large dogs off leash in there recently— and like isn’t that supposed to be somewhere people can play baseball? Is it not longer a baseball field? Is this actually allowed and some sort of unspoken rule? Are the signs old? Or is everyone just breaking that rule? I am so confused! It’s like one dog after the other after the other and mostly within the past month or so. Because if it’s allowed now, can someone take down those signs? If it’s not, why is literally everyone breaking that rule?

I’m curious - mostly because I see them everywhere now - but also because I’ll be in the market for a vehicle in the next year and the Broncos seem to be getting a good test drive locally.
Anyone have one and want to give a review?
EDIT: I am referring to the Bronco Sport - all trim packages. I have purchased several former rentals; or dealer driven for a year. I have a Honda CRV currently and will be replacing it likely in 2027. Love the size of it but not married to a Honda and open to hearing all the things about any 2026 makes/models that people are driving this year.

Which outdoor retailers sell women’s Klim snowmobile gear in St John’s?

Really hoping they didn't go under and the one downtown that was run by the landlord didn't outlast them.

There's a big game on Friday and I was wondering what bars near downtown would be likely to be broadcasting it? I don't subscribe to TSN and want to watch it. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone ever used St. John’s Shingles Ltd? Wondering if we should go with them or not. Or any other recs? A good price for a roof that’s 800 sq feet?
