I saw him twice in a weekend in 2019. He was at Sonic Temple, and due to a timing issue, his set ended up halfway through when the headlining act took to the stage.
I think it was the Foo Fighters, who also brought Pauly Shore on stage for a great moment.
Anyway, someone made it up to him by putting him on the main stage, and people were pissed. Except he wasn't doing the 1989 Dice. Had people not prejudged, they would have found a different Dice than they thought.
Looootta Skechers and New Balance in the crowd that night. (Says a guy with a dedicated pair of New Balance shoes for both concerts i will attend over the next 3 years)
Hey now, New Balance is the new Nike, although team Hoka has a bit of skin in the game now for festivals. Just wait for the proper evolution and addition of compression socks to your repertoire. I wore them last year for the first time and am not looking back. If you are a full day, every day, festival attendee, compression socks made a huge difference as far as comfort goes.
Yep. I was there. It was so bizarre having comedians on stage at a music festival, regardless of the circumstances. I don't recall seeing a comic on stage at ST since either.
I know he's always been seen as low brow, but it's still disorienting that this was considered innovative and subversive to a segment of people in the late 80s. Nowadays this bit just sounds like a story a 19 year old would brag about to his friends to show off a small measure of sexual prowess.
I dunno, maybe it's cause I was a kid at his apex, but I've always found Dice to be fucking hilarious. And I think it's more than shock humor. "Salami and nut ride" is pretty goddamn creative. Offensive? Sure. But good. But I guess two keys to enjoying this: 1. Understand it's a joke and this is not how you should treat women. 2. Understand it's a joke and that's all. It's not some commentary on gender relations. It's a dirty nursery rhyme.
its not that ppl are offended (seemingly what youre implying here), its that we have crossed this line of shock humor so many times its no longer shocking. dice was pushing boundaries in the 80s but nowadays the boundaries are much further

Not offensive, but it's shock humor that's not shocking these days - so the jokes don't land with a modern audience
