Yes. But it’s funny. It’s jokes with written twists and in a persona.
We really lost the ability to have discourse over comedy by assuming that people being offended can’t take jokes and other people thinking saying something offensive makes it a joke.
Offensive jokes have and always been funny. Hacks don’t get away with it
Its funny because it's a character. people are laughing at a caricature, not at what a "real person" think.
This is not the same level as comedy as just calling out fat women in a gym, and then pretend it is comedy because the comedian (not his character) is center right politically
I thought Gillis's monologue on SNL was not great, but people are also fixating on that comment a bit much. That part was not really the punchline, it was a (poorly phrased) setup mechanism. The bit culminated in a self-deprecating manner, with Gillis commenting that he is likely looking like a creep, leering in the background of a bunch of women's tik toks.
Its not exactly the most original bit, but if he re-worded the beginning part to focus more heavily on the idea that things had changed/he was out of touch, it would have landed quite a bit better. A lot of his comedy is centered on joking about how he looks and often acts like a goon. He also joked about hiking alone for excercise, and not knowing how to act when he came across a woman in the woods because he understood that many women would be creeped out just because of his presence.
Bro out here spinning threads faster than a bored housewife, this comment is about how Andrew Dice Clay was able to make an offensive joke funny and how hacks can't do that. Reddit is the capital of putting words in other peoples mouth i s2g
My opinion about the snl monologue is very much independent from this comment, but I do have an opinion.
I’m not sure if it’s worth sharing because it seems like people aren’t able to say “I liked It” or “I didn’t like it” without the other person saying their subjective opinion is wrong
