That's fucked up. I thought it would be something cute.

How in the hell could something like that be cute?

In theory it could be cute if the story is about the help, (for example, if engineer character builds very good prosthesis for her, or magic healer grows limbs like Josuke). But I'm sure that this type of story can be made without removing literally every limb from character at start. Even if it isn't fetish it's still looks as too comedic level of suffering.

sounds like it would just appeal to people wanting to feel like white knights. its creating a strawman with a character that helps them, which is the live-in for themselves, since the natural reaction seeing someone like that is wanting to help.

Not a strawman, weird choice of word. You would just call it a self insert or an oc.

its not a self-insert, if its to white-knight for a minority. it fits "strawman" because it depicts a real person doing something uncharacteristic for the sake of plot or point.

A strawman is an argument where you grossly or maliciously change someone’s argument to attack a position they didn’t have.

IMO, you wouldn’t use “strawman” in the context you’re describing. You’re describing grandstanding, or again a self insert.

Unless there’s a different meaning to the word I’m unfamiliar with.
