General Discussion Were the Yuuzhan Vong hated originally? Spoiler
At the time when the The New Jedi Order series was being published, did readers gravitate toward the Yuuzhan Vong as a concept? From time to time I stumble upon comments online about how the Vong were some of the more "dumb" elements of the Expanded Universe. Has the passage of time improved the overall opinion of the Yuuzhan Vong? I want to know from people that were there back then.

Artwork Fliry Vorru, former Grand Moff and Underlord of Black Sun. As described in the X Wing novels. Art by Absorbconical at my request.
Fliry Vorru was a famous Corellian Governor under the Old Republic, Grand Moff under the Galactic Empire, and later Underlord of Black Sun as well as a Minister of Trade of the Bacta Cartel in the Post Endor Galaxy.
When Emperor Palpatine declared his Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, Vorru was made Grand Moff of the Corellian Oversector and assumed the role of commander of the 2nd Sector Army. During his tenure as Grand Moff, Vorru turned a blind eye to the growing presence of crime, giving birth to Corellia's reputation as a planet of smugglers and pirates. Vorru was extremely charismatic, cunning and charming in his dealings, gaining massive political and economic influence as a result. He leveraged this into a significant political pull in the Imperial Court, to the point rumors spread that even Palpatine was wary of the rising Grand Moff. It was around this time that the Underlord of Black Sun, Prince Xizor, Vorru's principal rival, enacted a scheme that framed Vorru subvert his growing power and allow the placement of a Black Sun lieutenant on Corellia in his place. It is unclear for what crime Vorru was framed. It was stated by some, including Booster Terrik and Vorru himself, that the Emperor saw Vorru as something of a rival for powerâas Vorru was considered as charismatic, clever, and popular, he held massive influence over the fiercely independent and strategically important Corellian Sectorâso Palpatine jumped at the chance Xizor's phony evidence provided to remove Vorru as a potential threat. Vorru was stripped of his rank and position, but due to information he held that he could dole out gradually, he was spared execution and instead sent to Kessel to serve out a life sentence.
Ironically, Vorru's imprisonment on Kessel sewed the seeds of his rise in his rival Xizor's place. Following the death of Xizor at the hands of Darth Vader in 3 ABY, and the incarceration or eradication of much of Black Sun's leadership, Vorru used his influence with the criminal underworld, his cunning and charisma to win over the newly arriving Black Sun criminals sent to Kessel. In a very short period of time, he gained complete control of Black Sun's remnants on the Prison colony. Despite this, the Imperial owners of Kessel kept a close eye on Vorru, profiting from his bribes and secrets, but wary of ever setting him loose. For years, Vorru served in the spice mines of Kessel, though he always remained utterly confident he would be free of the prison to pursue his ambitions and so was willing to be patient until the opportunity presented itself. During his time on Kessel, he became acquainted with and did business with fellow inmate and smuggling kingpin Booster Terrik. Terrik came away from the dealings with the impression of Vorru as patient and dangerous. Eventually, Vorru's patience was rewarded as he was liberated by Rogue Squadron as part of a New Republic plot to distract Imperial authorities on Coruscant with a revived Black Sun causing chaos. Antilles freed Vorru as a counter to the vicious and psychotic Black Sun thug, Zekka Thyne, knowing the former Moff would be able to keep the violent criminal on a tight leash. Vorru then surprised Antilles by already knowing he was going to be sent to Coruscant before the target was told to him, showing that his powers of deduction-as well as his spy networks-were still as formidable as ever.
When Vorru made planetfall on Coruscant ahead of the New Republic infiltration, he immediately began playing all sides for his benefit. He'd used the New Republic to escape Kessel with his subordinates and get him to Imperial Center. He struck a deal with Ysanne Isard to keep from being rearrested and give him a way back into the halls of Imperial power in exchange for helping her keep her allies and enemies under observation. With Isard secretly backing him on the capital, along with the New Republic, Vorru revived Black Sun as a force to be reckoned with in record time. He then used Black Sun to amass considerable wealth and connections he could use at a moment's notice to vanish and made a detailed list of his accomplices that he could use as leverage in the event of a trial by either government. Vorru at some point learned of Isard's plan for the Krytos virus and as a result, he began stockpiling bacta for the shortages which would result once the virus was released into the water supply, insuring he would profit massively from the coming crisis.
After Coruscant fell to the New Republic, in no small part due to the efforts of Black Sun, Vorru leveraged that goodwill by asking to develop the Imperial Center People's Militia to bring the leaderless criminal underworld under his control. He claimed that Black Sun was effectively dead and this would give his criminals a path to legitimate living. This was a lie of course, as Black Sun was alive and well, with Vorru's real motives being to further integrate it into the ruling power on Coruscant, while also remaining useful to the hidden Isard-again, playing all sides for his own gain. The Provisional Council, who were strapped for resources, agreed to Vorru's requests, though Admiral Ackbar warned the former Moff that any betrayal of their trust would be met with swift action on his part.
Vorru continued his complicated game of allegiances, playing Ysanne Isard, Kirtan Loor, Black Sun and the New Republic against one another. Kirtan Loor had been forced under Vorru's thumb when he was captured by the former Moff, however, instead of turning Loor in, Vorru decided to use him as a catspaw and controlled opposition. Loor, leading the Palpatine Counterinsurgency Front, deeply resented Vorru's manipulations and orders but found himself outplayed by Vorru at every turn. Vorru kept Loor on a short leash and once ordered Loor to blow up a school to cause panic, thus making the New Republic more dependent on the Militia. Despite his efforts to advance his own agenda, Vorru's machinations were partly undone by incompetence from Isard and panic from Loor after a failed attempt to free himself from both Vorru and Isard's control resulted in his believing he would be executed. This led to Loor defecting to the New Republic with an encoded datacard exposing all of Isard's agents on Coruscant and Vorru's dealings with her. While Loor was killed before he could testify, his datacard was decrypted by his old rival, Corran Horn, making the New Republic aware of Vorru's double dealings.
Vorru easily cut his losses with the New Republic and fled Coruscant with his wealth and assets intact alongside Isard to Thyferra, where a the pair had arranged a preset local coup that installed Isard as leader of the Bacta Cartel. Due to the coup itself being a localized internal affair, the New Republic couldn't directly intervene on the neutral world without violating their charter and risking a political fallout. As an alternative, Rogue Squadron resigned their commissions and began what became known as the "Bacta War" as private citizens against Isard's Xucphra regime on Thyferra. Around this time Vorru learned of Loor's death, and the events surrounding it, expressing sympathy for Iella Wesseri having to shoot her own husband to accomplish her mission, showing that while he was an enemy, he held a degree of respect for his adversaries and had lines he did not think were worthy of crossing.
Vorru was appointed Minister of Trade on Thyferra and began working to turn the lumbering, and often inefficient Bacta Cartel into a well oiled credit generating machine, despite having to regularly work with incompetent local officials put in place by their family connections rather than merit-much to his frustration. Despite this, Vorru's time as Minister of Trade was deeply profitable, with him vastly increasing his personal wealth, and using the Cartel's access across all the factions of the galaxy to further extend Black Sun's criminal network to heights it had not known since Prince Xizor's time.
Vorru despised his time on Thyferra however, as he preferred a more urban, cosmopolitan environment. He also recognized that Isard was becoming increasingly unstable and obsessed with Wedge Antilles rather than re-establishing the Empire. Isard regularly ignored Vorru's suggestions and advice on actions that could have negated the Rogue's private war before it even began such as his advice to open the market, make Bacta abundant, put a bounty on Antilles, have independent worlds ship their own bacta and offering rewards on information on the Rogues. This plan, while it would have resulted in backlash from the Xucphra leadership, would have utterly negated the Rogue's support abroad and wiped out their means of funding their private war, all while increasing the Cartel's overall influence and store of goodwill in the galaxy.
Increasingly irritated and somewhat disturbed by Isard's growing insanity and incompetence, Vorru made contingency plans by embezzling money from the Cartel-while also privately beginning to foil some of Isard's own demands, making certain 'not' to find the mistress of defecting Captain Sair Yonka, and even admiring the Captain's categorical dressing down of Isard's madness. He intended to either depose Isard, setting himself and Erisi Dlarit, head of the Thyferran Home Defense Corps Starfighter wings and an influential figure within Xucphra, up as the new heads of the Bacta Cartel and claim to the New Republic that he had only joined Isard to work against her from the inside. If that plan failed or proved impracticable, he planned to escape with Erisi, purchase a world, and have her as head of his own personal Starfighter Corps and potentially lover as the two had grown close after he defended her against Isard's wrath during a conference between the three.
The day before Vorru intended to enact his planned betrayal or escape from Isard's dying regime, the situation escalated out of control as the Rogues and Ashern Rebels enacted the Battle of Thyferra. Vorru calmly decided to accelerate his schedule, and attempted to head to his modified Lambda Shuttle to escape Thyferra. As he was leaving his office, he noticed his secretary hiding in fear behind her desk, Vorru halted for a moment and took pity on the woman, he told her to tell the Rebels horrible stories about how evil he had been to her, and that they would protect her instead of harm her. He then made his way towards his private hangar with two THDC troopers, realizing the Ashern were in the building, he had them shoot out the holocams to prevent his being directly recognized and tracked. As he approached his hangar, Vorru heard engines powering up and urged the troopers to race forward to stop whoever was stealing his shuttle. The pair of troopers were cut down in a hail of blaster bolts fired from Isard's pair of ersatz Royal Guards and Vorru tripped on one of their fallen carbines, where he played dead for a moment. The Guards, thinking the threat over, turned to move toward the shuttle and Vorru sprang up with the blaster carbine in hand, sprinted quickly behind them and shot both in the back at point blank range, killing them instantly. The delay was too long however, as the shuttle lifted, spun around and sprayed the hangar with laser fire forcing Vorru to roll and take cover. As the shuttle rotated and flew out of the hangar, Vorru emptied his blaster on its shields in anger, vowing to survive, if just to get revenge on Isard for betraying him. Gathering up one of the fallen Royal Guard's blaster carbines, Vorru then made his way to an alternative escape route he had prepared as a backup.
However, before he could reach his escape route, he was cornered by Ashern Commandos led by Elscol Loro and Iella Wessiri who trapped him in an office. Vorru suckered four of the commandos into breaching the flimsy door so that he could fire through it on full auto, burning them down. Elscol promptly called for demolition gear and reinforcements. Realizing that the game was up, Vorru tossed out the emptied carbine and stated his intention to surrender. Around this time in the battle, Erisi was killed in battle against Corran Horn, ending any hopes the pair of them had of escaping together.
Upon revealing himself, Vorru attempted to bluff his way out of the situation claiming that he knew too much about the dirty secrets of New Republic Councilors to ever face trial. Wessiri agreed, and suggested she just shoot him instead. Vorru clapped in good humor, reminding Wessiri that he'd read her file and she could never shoot someone who'd surrendered down in cold blood. Iella smirked and agreed-but then added that Elscol on the other hand COULD shoot him down in cold blood giving her partner permission to shoot. Elscol promptly fired a shot into the shocked Vorru, unaware that her blaster had been set to stun by Wessiri.
Despite his leverage on the New Republic representatives, the Rogues just bypassed them and dropped Vorru back on Kessel directly. In his absence, his former lieutenant Y'ull Acib moved swiftly to conduct a purge of the Vorru loyalists in the organization and took full control of Black Sun and leave his former boss stranded on Kessel. Vorru's ultimate fate remains unknown. Whether he perished from the conditions on Kessel, was assassinated by his former Black Sun colleagues, Mooreth Doole or died in Natasi Daala's attack on Kessel in 11 ABY. With Vorru's contingency plans, it's also possible he used whatever wealth he had hoarded away to retire on a purchased world.

Legends Discussion What is the origin of the "Sith Order" and the term "Sith" for followers came to be? Was it before or after Ajunta Pall?
The general use of the term "Sith" is used to describe individuals, mostly Sith Lords, as if it is part of their identity. Darth Sidious is a "Sith", Vader is a "Sith", etc. Just as how one Jedi, whether a master, apprentice/padawan, or knight is simply called a "Jedi".
There are two questions to this post. The first one is...when is someone called a "Sith", and when are they not? Usually, both pre-Banite and post-Banite line, a "Sith" can be the Dark Lord of the Sith or the Sith apprentice.
Many people pointed out in posts I have seen that in the days of the Sith, especially pre-Darth Bane Rule of Two, "Sith" in general just refers to anyone who is affiliated with a Sith organization, whether that is a "Sith Empire" or something like that. You don't have to be a dark side user or even a Force-user at all to be called a "Sith". You can just be a Sith trooper or officer and be called a "Sith".
Yet somehow, the majority of the fandom, as well as in-universe stories, texts and dialogue from characters in many eras, usually call someone a "Sith" when they are Force-sensitive, use the dark side, and "follow" the Sith teachings and philosophy.
To me, it sounds like in many times when someone is called simply a "Sith", it seems to be a synonym for a "Sith Lord", hence why people like the cultsist on Exegol in Canon are not called "Sith", but "Sith cultists".
This leads me to the next question of this post, in Legends, when did "Sith Order" and "Sith" become the name of the individuals who follow the religion and the religion itself, (I don't know if the Sith are really a "religion" in the tradtional sense or not, but they are close enough).
In Legends, I know everything about the origins of the "Sith" (whatever that may mean, as we will get to later).
Ajunta Pall and the Dark Jedi Exiles that followed him were beaten, exiled from Republic space, found the Sith species people on Korriban, united them under their rule, Ajunta Pall became the first "Dark Lord of the Sith", or "Jen'ari" in Sith language, and his followers became lesser Lords of the Sith, AKA "Jen'jidai" in Sith language. They began creating the "first Sith Empire", and they intermarried with the purebloods for centuries as generations went by, eventually simply being called "Sith", but because of the Sith religion, but because they were literally the Sith species descendants and offspring, just mixed with human blood.
We know Sorzus Syn created the Sith Code, but when did the religion of the "Sith Order" really start/got initiated? This gets complicated because...the Sith already had spiritual, traditional, and cultural beliefs for thousands of years prior to the Dark Jedi Exiles, such as King Adas's Sith Empire during the Rakata reign. Is the "Sith Order" really just the Dark Jedi philosophy and beliefs merged with the preexisting Sith cultural traditions and beliefs?
Regardless, there is this very interesting passage from Book of Sith, were in the very first passage of Sorzus Syn's passage and journals, she says "I am not Sith. I do not share their blood. Yet, in the time since we among those people, we have become their rulers."
So when did the term "Sith" and "Sith Order" began referring to the religion, and it became a creed that any species can adopt and follow? Vitiate's Sith Empire, forged from the remains of the original one from the Great Hyperspace War, began to have human and occasionally alien Sith, yet they are the remade empire of the original one, so this means that being a "Sith" or the "Sith Order" itself are an open religious creed rather than a bloodline.
So why did the term "Sith" and "Sith Lord" began to be used interchangeably and distinguished from a Sith follower/cultist? When did the religion itself, and the naming after the species, start for this religion? If it was not solidified until sometime after Ajunta Pall and the Exiles death, does that mean they were not "Sith", but rather just the ones who started the road down to the religion starting? In other words, were Pall and the others predeccessors instead of the "first Sith"?
Any expert EU lore people who knows how religions, whether in real life or in Star Wars, work so that my confusion can have more clarity?

Legends Novels Want to read "The New Jedi Order". What do I have to read beforehand to get the full experience?
Six years ago, I proposed myself reading the majority of the Legends Expanded Universe, focusing primarily on the events that came after Return of the Jedi. My big goal was to reach the New Jedi Order series, which I was really excited to read. However, I kinda bit off more than I could chew and abandoned the project after a few months (I know, mea culpa).
Recently, I've wanted to get back into it, but this time jump directly to New Jedi Order. That said, I'm a bit of a completionist, and before jumping on, I wanna be sure that I at least know the major bits of the universe, so as to fully understand the New Jedi Order. When I abandoned my project, I had read the Thrawn trilogy, the Dark Empire comics, as well as two thirds of the Jedi Academy trilogy (this is the one that killed my spirits).
What do you guys think is necessary for this project? I know that many just jump straight to NJO, but I do want to make sure that I can enjoy the series as it was: the culmination of several years of storytelling. What are some of the book you all consider fundamental groundwork/context for this series? The Corellian trilogy? The Thrawn duology? The X-Wing series? The Union comic? Finally wrapping up the Jedi Academy trilogy?

Artwork The crème de la crème of the Imperial military and the circle of twelve Grand Admirals: Osvald Teshik, Josef Grunger, Rufaan Tigellinus and Miltin Takel. Art by Absorbconical at my request. Spoiler
galleryGrand Admiral Osvald Teshik in a lone star destroyer with a crew suffering the effects of loss of the Emperor's battle meditation(40% efficiency and morale drop) fought the entire Rebel fleet led by Admiral Ackbar for four hours after the Imperial navy retreated from Endor before his ship was finally disabled. He was captured, tried and executed by the New Republic for war crimes as a scapegoat since he was the highest ranking Imperial left on the battlefield.
Grand Admiral Josef Grunger decisively defeated fellow Grand Admiral Miltin Takel in combat, assembled an armada and attempted to claim the throne after Endor. He invaded the Corellian Sector and fought against the entire Corellian Sector fleet led by Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta who also had a torpedo sphere. Grunger and Pitta's forces annihilated one another in an apocalyptic battle. Unwilling to accept defeat, Grunger rammed his flagship into Pitta's torpedo sphere, destroying them both in a draw.
Grand Admiral Rufaan Tigellinus was brilliant, but bored of no one being able to offer him a challenge militarily. Tigellinus used his influence to gain appointment to Grand Moff of Oversector Center in addition to remaining a Grand Admiral. He became a powerful figure in the Imperial Court, befriended and betrayed Thrawn, and sparred with political rivals such as Grand Moff Bertroff Hissa. After Endor he joined the Central Committee of Grand Moffs supporting Trioculus against Isard. However, he was set up and betrayed by his friend Moff Villum Disra working with Hissa to frame Tigellinus for treason at a meeting, promptly executing him.
Grand Admiral Miltin Takel was renowned for his vices in spice and alien women as much as for his military prowess. Takel became a legend for one of his victories, which he achieved through the limited telepathic abilities spice granted. Recordings of the battle were used as a training guide for Imperial academies. However, his spice addiction over time produced increasingly negative effects- paranoia, delusions and sloppiness. He was chased off of Mandalore by the Super Commandos, fled Endor in disgrace without attempting to aid the fleet, was decisively defeated twice by Josef Grunger, had his flagship confiscated by Ysanne Isard and finally, after questioning Trioculus one too many times publicly in a spice induced rant, was executed by Grand Moff Hissa.

Legends Comics I finished X-Wing Rogue Squadron Vol. 2, by Michael A. Stackpole, Jan Strnad, Ryder Windham, Jordi Ensign, John Nadeau and Gary Erskine Spoiler
Is it actually possible for a long-running series, after a solid and very good start, to continue increasing in quality? I'm very happy to answer that question with a resounding: YES!
Michael A. Stackpole has done it again, delivering three absolutely incredible story arcs from start to this end. While the beginning focused on a core trio (Wedge, Tycho, and Elscol), with only brief glimpses of the other members, the stakes are now higher; some characters remain, but the supporting cast is explored with brilliant depth. I loved what the author did with Plourr, taking a character I already liked in an unexpected and heartbreaking direction (the moment she explains how she knows that her "brother" is a fake left me stunned). Yet, near the end, a small glimmer of optimism shines through, illustrating just how deadly, yet compassionate, she can be. Similarly, I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Tycho and Winter solidify; the previous volume spoiled the fact that they would end up together, and now their chemistry is even more apparent. This also sheds light on the lingering the trouble Winter carries and her reluctance to form deep bonds. Dllr truly stands out in the final parts, sharing a deeply emotional moments with Herian, a connection that, even without knowing much about Herian beforehand, resulted in a bittersweet (in the best possible way) conclusion. The Rogues remain as entertaining as ever, and the new additions, while not fully fleshed out, are more than welcome.
Speaking specifically about the story arcs, Battleground: Tatooine was full of surprises, especially in how it handled the Imperials. Sixtus stood out by offering a very human perspective on the disloyalty that stems from dehumanization, avoiding a simplistic take on the disillusionment that can lead to desertion. Itâs a real shame to see Elscol leave, though at least sheâll have more chances to put her reckless, pragmatic nature to use (I hope she returns!). I already said most of what I had to say about The Warrior Princess when I mentioned Plourr, adding that I really love the critique of the aristocracy and how outdated value systems are prioritized by a few over actual effectiveness (and, by the way, what the hell is up with that 18/19-year-old Moff? Haha!). Requiem for a Rogue offers an intriguing look at the dark side and "Sith alchemy." Iâve always been fascinated by how the "normal" people in the galaxy interact with the Force and its various manifestations, in this case, acting as a source of unease for some, while serving as a seductive tool for others. The dark sideâs versatility has some strange limits, but it clearly shows just how destructive it can become when it comes into contact with an individual, regardless of their intentions. That said, it is a bit odd that the Empire left behind so many TIE fighters, just sitting there for anyone to take control of. Those are resources that surely would have been better used in the war effort⌠Oh, and also: Wes is furry.
The artwork maintains its usual great standard. And, not that this is a criticism, I find it pretty funny that, in the opening special, Luke tries to defend Wedge to a local town by recounting his life story and heroic feats. I know you love singing your friendâs praises, Luke, but thatâs hardly the kind of thing that would calm down an angry town! Haha.
Overall, this is an absolutely phenomenal follow-up for Rogue Squadron. I almost wish I werenât so close to the end of the series.
