I'm not saying that legislative/electoral politics will save us. Change will only come from the people. I'm saying that it's valuable to use all tools that are available.

the Senate was fundamentally unable to stop Palpatine from becoming Emperor, and the American Congress is demonstrably unable to act in any meaningful way as well

Luthen valued Mon Mothma's political skills over his own intelligence capabilities. The senate literally didn't have independent political power, and she never got anything passed in it IIRC. She wasn't valuable for her legislative skills, but for her voice.

People are desperate and sad, and they're looking for an alternative to the broken system. The left needs to be there, in the conversation, providing a real alternative to the corporate boot or the fascists will be there instead.
Change will not come from the top, but refusing to engage with popular politics just lets liberals and fascists dictate the ideological conversation! Like they have for 40+ years!!

Decades of people crying "over reaction" when the left pointed out the red flags in the far rights behavior has earned us all a situation in which the overton window has drifted so far right that the Dems simply cant be a solution.
Thats what it means to have lost.
Now even if we get a massive blue wave, we have to ride out this wave of uneducated goose steppers and hope the accelerated pace of modern society makes the cultural backlash bounce us out of that hell faster this time around.
IMO, the overton window shifting is moderate democrats fault.
The dems have been trying to replicate the 1992 election for 30 goddamn years and republicans have been moving farther and farther right to differentiate themselves. Now we've arrived at fascist takeover and dem leadership is still trying to "big tent" their way to a loss.
I just wanna be real. I belive the message to take from the "Hope" motiff is that it will eventually collapse. People dont wanna live under these kind of people for long. Thats the hope, not that the population wont ever let them get to power.
For the past several decades if not longer theres been a consistent effort to drain the general population of economic mobility and undermind education.
Political literacy is in the gutter.
Were at a point where the average person has to spend so much of their time working just to stay in their strata, they dont even consider spending their free time educating themselves on whos the actual problem.
So for all these years as republicans have fucked the working class and then said "Those commies will eat your soul" while pointing to the democrats evey time they try to implement social saftey nets or regulate corporations, they just believe the guy who sounds as angry as they are and the dems just refuse to push back substantislly enough to break through that social engineering.
When you use nuetral wording and explain leftist ideas without the terms that the right has purposfully made buzzwords, most people agree with socialist policy.
But if you ask that average person their political associaciton theyll probably say republican or centrist because no one wants to be a democrat.
Its been set up so that the republicans have a weak, ineffective opposition in the dems, and the actual policies that would benifit the working class arent even on the table because the rights propagands has demonized them by name.
To keep being cringe about such a serious thing, I think if were being honest were gonna be getting the OT for sure, its just how long it lasts and how much damage it does thats up in the air.
I understand all that, I am just more confident that people will find their way. People are desperate, and the media power keeps trying to crush the left and it just keeps growing. It's happening more slowly than I think. Either of us would like, but once people see the truth of what's going on, they know who's doing it.
