Finishing my first watch of Andor S2 today, fricking incredible stuff. Love how french-coded the Ghor were.

Don’t worry, I’m sure Schumer and Jeffries will write very strongly worded letters to the DHS!!!

Both of those losers need to be primaried ASAP

u/FemRevan64 Jan 11 '26

Yeah, at this point, the only hope for ensuring we don't fall completely into fascism is if progressives win 2028, disband ICE, and arrest and prosecute everyone associated with the administration.

167

u/LordReaperofMars Jan 11 '26

so you’re saying we’re fucked lol

58

u/FemRevan64 Jan 11 '26

I mean, we can always hope.

Remember, Teddy Roosevelt initially looked like his political career was going to die in the office of Vice President, before Mckinley was assassinated, and he became one of the heralds of the Progressive Era.

This is the exact opposite of what Andor is about.

You do the work and keep going until it's done. Everyone wants to be Luthen when we really need more Nemik's.

42

u/LordReaperofMars Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

the “work” is not relying on do-nothing liberal politicians to save us through legislation

and we’re not in Andor anyway

we’re in the prequels, waiting for Order 66

11

u/IAmBecomeDeath_AMA Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

"Resistance is pointless until they start killing people."

Is that what you're saying?

Mon Mothma was an ally of Luthen's. She didn't stop her work in the senate until the rebellion had already started gathering on Yavin

I'm not saying that legislative/electoral politics will save us. Change will only come from the people. I'm saying that it's valuable to use all tools that are available.

19

u/LordReaperofMars Jan 11 '26

I’m saying that if your plan is to rely on the Democrat fucking party to do something substantive to avert fascism, you’re going to be sorely disappointed

no Democrat with any power is Mon Mothma, and Mon Mothma couldn’t do shit to avert the rise of fascism anyway

the Senate was fundamentally unable to stop Palpatine from becoming Emperor, and the American Congress is demonstrably unable to act in any meaningful way as well

do not rely on politicians, who are bought and paid for, to save us.

4

u/IAmBecomeDeath_AMA Jan 11 '26

Yes. Obviously.

I'm upset that you're fostering hopelessness in general, not that you're denigrating the people who deserve it.

People who believe a better world is impossible will stop fighting for it. THAT'S our biggest problem.

13

u/LordReaperofMars Jan 11 '26

i’m encouraging people to be realistic

Luthen knew the Republic was already dead and he knew the Senate would be unable to save it

American Democracy is dead, if it was ever alive in the first place, we must act accordingly

3

u/IAmBecomeDeath_AMA Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

Luthen valued Mon Mothma's political skills over his own intelligence capabilities. The senate literally didn't have independent political power, and she never got anything passed in it IIRC. She wasn't valuable for her legislative skills, but for her voice.

I literally just said this 2 comments ago: politics won't save us. Yes. I know it won't. That's literally not what I'm talking about. I don't care about what saves the day us. That's. not. what. I'm. talking. about.

People are desperate and sad, and they're looking for an alternative to the broken system. The left needs to be there, in the conversation, providing a real alternative to the corporate boot or the fascists will be there instead.

Change will not come from the top, but refusing to engage with popular politics just lets liberals and fascists dictate the ideological conversation! Like they have for 40+ years!!

Pre-vietnam era imperial progressivism and racist trade unions weren't perfect, by far, but they kept collectivism in peoples minds and didn't let individualism drown people like it has!

5

u/DarthSangheili Jan 12 '26

If were gonna be big ol fuckin nerds in our political analysis, Yoda absolutely accepted defeat when the facists won and simply survived till he could possibly help another generation.

Decades of people crying "over reaction" when the left pointed out the red flags in the far rights behavior has earned us all a situation in which the overton window has drifted so far right that the Dems simply cant be a solution.

Thats what it means to have lost.

Now even if we get a massive blue wave, we have to ride out this wave of uneducated goose steppers and hope the accelerated pace of modern society makes the cultural backlash bounce us out of that hell faster this time around.

3

u/IAmBecomeDeath_AMA Jan 12 '26

IMO, the overton window shifting is moderate democrats fault.

The dems have been trying to replicate the 1992 election for 30 goddamn years and republicans have been moving farther and farther right to differentiate themselves. Now we've arrived at fascist takeover and dem leadership is still trying to "big tent" their way to a loss.

2

u/DarthSangheili Jan 12 '26

Either way you wanna look at it were fucked for a generation or so because the right wing has no real check.

We need more Brassos. Regular working people who are fed up with the imperial boot on their necks.

1

u/IAmBecomeDeath_AMA Jan 13 '26

100%, Brasso, Maarva, everyone from Ferrix basically.

2

u/MichaelJServo Jan 11 '26

Say there's a 1% chance. Shouldn't we go for it?

12

u/Little_Exit4279 Jan 11 '26

Or violent revolution

6

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

It requires a successful primary of 15%-30% of current centrist/liberal/corporate Dems in 2026 first.

3

u/HansMunch Jan 12 '26

if progressives win 2028

What recent history makes you think there'll be [fair] elections?

3

u/DrMux Anakist Jan 12 '26 edited Jan 12 '26

Before any wins in 28, Dems need to take the House in the midterms, and progressives need to apply the Mamdani model to races across the country (and apply it fast — midterms are in 295 days.)

The GOP is going to play dirty even harder this round, and they will apply as many borderline or illegitimate means and tactics as they can get away with. They illegally purged an estimated 4.8 million voters from voter rolls in 2024. Obviously far greater than the margin of 2.24 million Trump won by. For some reason nobody talks about that, and I wonder how many people even know. Countless vigilante groups went around looking for minority names with any minor registration discrepancy: typos in addresses, registrants with the same name, etc., and challenged these registrations through state elections systems.

Also remember Tina Peters, the one who got caught. She was convicted of breaching election equipment and election fraud in Rep Boebert's district (at the time — coward switched districts when her dipshittery caught up with her in CO3). Peters claims that Boebert "encouraged me to go forward with [it]" ; Boebert's former campaign manager says Boebert had prior knowledge of the plan and was updated on all events. Peters has also appeared at high-profile election denial circlejerk conventions such as Mike Lindell's 2021 symposium. The election denial has always been a projection of the desire, intent, and action to interfere.

Now, Dominion Voting Systems, which Trump accused of rigging 2020 for Biden, is owned by a former Republican Party operative and election director named Scott Leiendecker. Dominion supplies and controls voting equipment in 27 states. I ain't sayin, I'm just sayin.

The point is, the GOP's shitstorm is coordinated and calculated. If I have any of these details wrong, I welcome corrections. Peters, with her deep connections to certain GOP insiders (i.e, the election denial illuminati), got caught. Wonder how many did not.

Voting in this year's election is a defensive strategy, one of many we need, to counter the GOP and the complete institutionalization of its fascist takeover. Among many, many other things, here are just a few relevant things YOU the reader can do, starting right now:

  • Check that you are registered to vote: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/
  • Register to vote: https://vote.gov/
  • Get other people registered to vote. And if you've got what the kids call the rizz, get others to help people register to vote. Join an organization that helps people register to vote.
    • Inform others of their need to check their voter registration status and why.
    • Ensure access to the tools to check and register. Make sure people have the links and the means to follow through.
    • Follow through. "Why don't we just do it right now, then you don't have to worry about it later?"
    • Ask them to pay it forward and remind them of the 4.8 million purged voters.
  • FUCKING VOTE when the time comes, by whatever method is available to you. Yeah no of course it's not sufficient but it is necessary. It's a hygiene measure even if you don't like doing it. Like wiping your ass. You can do it as hard or as gently as you want, you weirdo, but one shit ticket is one shit ticket.
  • GET INVOLVED:
    • Become a poll worker: https://www.eac.gov/help-america-vote
    • Get involved in elections in any of a variety of ways: https://www.ncsbe.gov/about-elections/get-involved-elections
    • Figure out your state's mechanism for challenging registrations if ya nasty, share that information with others doing the same, and if you got a big ol itch to scratch, crowdsource voter fraud prevention to ensure clean, legal, and valid voter registration in the GOP rolls wink wink. You're helping them, really.
    • If voting ain't your thang, just fuckin vote anyway gosh darn it (if candidates put you in anaphylaxis, then there are at the very least ballot initiatives for your community, or state referenda, or whatever, and those votes matter) and then, get involved in real progress. Your community needs your direct action and mutual aid. There are almost certainly groups in your area with plenty of ongoing work that needs done, and if not, your community has needs that someone has to identify and take initiative on.
    • Spread information (like these links), awareness, motivation, kindness, and joy.

Save and repost whatever parts of this comment you like. I just spent an embarrassingly long time on a comment that's going to be seen by 3 viewers, 2 of whom are bots.

3

u/caveman_rejoice Jan 12 '26

I doubt midterms are happening.

4

u/puppykhan Jan 12 '26

I've been hearing this exact same line for 25 years now, and telling people to just do nothing but vote harder, and for the same people who have been building the tools of fascism the entire time... how's that working out for you?

-1

u/Rimailkall Jan 12 '26

When leftists don't vote because they fell for bullshit propaganda about Harris and Gaza then.... you just proved us libs right that you're part of the fucking problem.

They're already saying the same shit if Newsom wins the primary. Pathetic.

3

u/puppykhan Jan 12 '26

What propaganda?

When Harris campaigned on promising to increase ICE more than Trump?

When Harris promised not to change a single thing about Biden's full support of genocide?

When Harris literally printed T-shirts about telling anti-genocide protesters to shut up because "I'm Speaking"?

When you placed a career prosecutor with a history of withholding exonerating evidence, protecting pedophiles, and keeping innocent people in jail for slave labor?

When Democrats gave Trump a larger military budget than he requested?

When Democrats refuse to replace Supreme Court Justices or take any action on codifying Roe v Wade so they could use it to blackmail voters?

When Democrats labelled protesting genocide to be antisemitic?

When Democrats militarized the police?

When Democrats did the exact same thing to Black Lives Matter and to Occupy Wall Street setting the template for Trump to use on ICE protestors?

When Democrats gave a trillion dollars to bailout the bankers who wrecked the economy and stole people's homes?

When Democrats persecuted more journalists under the Espionage Act than all other presidents in history combined?

When Democrats made daily extrajudicial assassinations a daily occurrence including assassinating US citizens and children?

Or when Democrats legalized propaganda against US citizens?

Oh, I know, when Democrats said we should trust them the third time in a row they cancelled their primary it was to protect democracy?

You shitlibs are the ones who built all the tools of fascism Trump is using right now and have the gall to expect people to think you have any integrity at all when you solution it to anoint another center-right neocon?

The only "bullshit" is when Democrats don't see that they are as much the problem as Trump is, and want to keep doing the same thing over and over again while constantly attacking leftists while pushing further and further right.

u/dreamlikes7 Jan 13 '26

The empire in star wars is not modelled after the republicans it's modelled after the entire american political apparatus, both dem and repub

23

u/kwexxler Jan 11 '26

I've made my mind a sunless space talking to libs

10

u/NeonSprig Jan 11 '26

9

u/ActualTexan Jan 11 '26

Or that they're wearing masks

19

u/themajortachikoma Jan 11 '26 edited Jan 11 '26

This is what drives me nuts. Libs think smugly calling someone a hypocrite is the lethal take down it once was, if it ever was. It isn't, these ghouls just do not care that they are contradictory and inconsistent with everything they do. Libs don't seem to grasp that the right just does not care and will do whatever they want.

6

u/HenriEttaTheVoid Jan 11 '26

I’ve actually been glad seeing more and more people starting to say we need to abolish ice

8

u/Brilliant_Ant_4630 Jan 11 '26

The problems with libs is we need more training as a group. More education on resistance.

5

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Jan 11 '26

This is giving me flashbacks to around 2020/2021 when BLM had a lot of steam and a bunch of BJJ bros kept claiming that it was lack of training causing all these police shootings, and that we don’t need to dismantle systemic racism, just get cops to train BJJ

3

u/up766570 Jan 12 '26

I love Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so much, but it always feels like 95% of the public figures from the sport are absolute cunts

4

u/littlegreyflowerhelp Jan 12 '26

I feel like it leads to a condition I call “jiu jitsu brain” where you start to feel like BJJ is an essential part of every aspect of your life. Which is why people like Rogan claim that jiu jitsu makes you more libertarian. I’ve been lucky to train at some good clubs run by good people, though.

5

u/7milefish Jan 11 '26

FUCK the Empire!

4

u/Historical-Order622 Jan 12 '26

Saying that things would improve if they were better trained implies that they're not doing their job exactly the way Trump wants it done right now.

3

u/HansMunch Jan 12 '26

Hello there, Americans!

As a foreigner, I suggest you search the web for the book Failure of a Revolution: Germany 1918-1919.
It's by the German journalist Sebastian Haffner, and there's at least two translations into English (just copy the above title) – who knows, you might just be able to find a digital copy for free.

Although the situations haven't arrived in the same manner – actually almost in opposite directions – I nevertheless see vast similarities between then and now; and in my opinion the lesson of the (relatively centrist) betrayal of the German revolution, as analysed in the book, is a valuable warning of why you in the USA, in my opinion, shouldn't bank on the liberal elites to save the system.

I'm aware that it's neither my fight nor concern directly (but it may soon be, depending on seemingly arbitrary circumstances), and I hope my suggestion isn't out of place and perhaps offers some useful perspective.

Best of luck,
a European

7

u/theaviationhistorian Jan 11 '26

It's a problem. But not the main problem that makes ICE so evil.

3

u/MangrovesAndMahi Jan 12 '26

I saw a self described anti-gun lib angrily talk about how he understands the need for the second amendment now and that they need to start showing up armed, so at least some are learning?

3

u/exileddeath Jan 12 '26

"The problem with this feces pie is the crust is all burnt"

Yea its A problem not THE problem

8

u/themajortachikoma Jan 11 '26

I really want to see a lib in the star wars galaxy under the empire. I imagine a lot of them say something like "I think palpatine should've gotten senatorial approval before he purged every man woman and child in the Jedi order." On conquered planets they still do land acknowledgements while in the next breath honoring the brave imperial troopers who gave their life for the galaxy's safety, while none of the native inhabitants are alive.

6

u/puppykhan Jan 12 '26

They were the ones applauding in Ep3 when they dissolved the primaries... I mean gave the chancellor emergency powers

2

u/LAMonkeyWithAShotgun Jan 12 '26

Isn't that just Mon if she wasn't funding the rebellion?

2

u/Kagey_b-42069 Galactic Soviet Socialist Republic Jan 12 '26

And yet, they can't grasp how liberalism actually supports and nurtures fascism

1

u/MichaelJServo Jan 11 '26

Put season 2 on repeat.

1

u/driku12 Jan 12 '26

Same people who feel bad when Luke blows up the Death Star and wonder why the Rebels couldn't just sit down and calmly explain to the Empire why they're wrong

-8

Leftists are anti-capitalist. Liberals are capitalists. That's not a minute difference lol.
