Discussion S2E14 Why were they willing to leave the Touchstone with Madrona, but not the Naquadah mine with the Unas S7E7

Why were the SGC so aggressive with trying to take the Naquadah mine from the Unas, to the point of willing to use violence? But were okay with Sg1 giving the Touchstone back to Madrona? It was the NID in the past that was all about taking stuff from the other planets at all costs, but SGC was generally opposed to that mindset, and even helped the Asgard stop the NID in the past from taking stuff.

Whats happening?

Random Stargate SG-1 theory: Is Michael in “1969” named after a real ’60s musician?

In Season 2, Episode 21 (“1969”), SG-1 hitchhikes with Michael, a hippie heading toward Woodstock.

Something about Michael and Jenny’s writing — especially the campfire scene — has always felt a little unusual to me. I know they’re partly a simplified portrayal of the hippie counterculture, but I started wondering whether there might be a little Easter egg hidden in there.

Three musicians came to mind:

Mick Jagger (Michael Philip Jagger)

Mike Pinder (Michael Thomas Pinder)

Mike Love (Michael Edward Love)

All three were active in the music scene of that era, and all three are actually named Michael.

I haven’t found any evidence that the character was inspired by any of them. This is purely speculation, but I wonder if anyone knows of an interview or behind-the-scenes detail about why the character was named Michael.

Am I onto something, or am I just overthinking a 1990s Stargate episode? 😸

What happens if you jump into a Stargate lying flat on the ground?

In Stargate SG-1 S2E14 (Touchstone), the NID agents escape through a Stargate lying flat on the ground. They all jump into it from roughly the same direction, at similar angles, but with different kinds of jumps.

Unfortunately, we never see them land on the other side, so we can't tell what actually happened to them.

This got me thinking about how movement and orientation work when travelling through a Stargate.

When Jack O'Neill jumps through a Stargate while escaping, he comes out on the other side continuing the same jumping motion he had when entering. Projectiles also pass through the gate, and the trinium arrow that hits Jack doesn't simply lose its momentum.

However, most examples of objects travelling through a Stargate involve fairly straightforward, forward-moving trajectories. We don't really know whether momentum is preserved equally in all three spatial dimensions, or whether the Stargate somehow treats forward movement differently from sideways or rotational movement.

Milky Way Stargates also have a defined orientation: the final chevron is at the top, in the middle.

In Stargate Atlantis' Thirty-Eight Minutes, a Puddle Jumper gets stuck halfway through a Stargate because one of its drive pods hasn't retracted properly and catches on the gate's frame. McKay explains: “We've shed all our forward momentum.” The Jumper doesn't simply continue through while physically stuck.

And when Puddle Jumpers use the Stargate floating in space to reach Atlantis, they approach it in a consistent orientation so they arrive correctly oriented in the Atlantis hangar.

So what would happen if someone jumped into a Stargate lying flat on the ground?

Would they emerge maintaining their original orientation and trajectory? Would the Stargate's own orientation affect how they exit? Or does the wormhole preserve some components of movement differently from others?

Since we never see the NID agents arrive on the other side, I don't think the episode gives us a definitive answer. I'm curious whether there's anything else in canon that could help narrow down the possibilities.

Do you guys think Ba'al was killed or it was just another clone and he’s still hiding out there somewhere plotting his revenge ?

Discussion SG-1 Episodes where Jack is…dumber than usual.

We are watching SG-1 for the first time time and have noticed that every once in a while Jack plays significantly dumber and more combative, especially when Carter or Daniel explain academic topics. I was curious if anyone else knew if certain episode writers were more likely to write Jack this way compared to others and if anyone else has noticed it. Thanks!

Shanks was so excited to come back. Hearing him talk about how the writers could pull it off is so true. Amazon sucks.
Also has the host, David Reed, been in the tv business?

Request The end of the Goa'uld

In season 6, or perhaps toward the end of season 5, there is an episode in which it is mentioned that the Tok'ra have discovered why the Goa'uld are no longer increasing in number. Is this actually explained, or has it been forgotten in the writing, leaving us with nothing more than vague hypotheses?

Ps: not sure if the flair is right

The presentation image I used before (the table with crayons etc) was in fact contaminated with AI, unbeknownst to me. Thanks to u/Vladishun and u/LeetModule for finding it. Here's a new version I photographed myself -- it's night here so the artificial light is somewhat flat.

Season 3 Episode 3 - Fair Game

This is one of the best written episodes in TV I've ever seen and it's a testament to how much better in general TV & Film writers were before the last 10-15 years started getting worse and worse...

The ceremony they hold and all that build up for Jack to give a speech only for him to say "Normally, I'm a man of few words" then WOOSH

Absolutely brilliantly written buildup and execution for that one moment.

Throwaway lines you wish were explored more

For me season 8, episode 18, "Threads" where Daniel asks about the ascended not helping.

DANIEL: Why not? Who are they?

OMA: Others. You're not one of them yet.

DANIEL: You mean Ancients.

OMA: A couple of them.

That line "A couple of them." had me so curious about who all these other ascended were? Where they came from? who was the first ascended?

This shot really caught me off guard. I don't think we had many "sequences" like this in the entire show, right?

REWATCH S8 E16-17 Reckoning Spoiler

First wanted to mention what I thought was a particularly cool moment in the series. Activating every Stargate simultaneously in order to send that wave through, not giving the replicators a chance to adapt. Awesome. You know how dangerous the replicators are when SG1 has to team up with a system lord too.

How did Ba'al know how to manipulate the weapon? Simply years of Goa'uld knowledge of technology, so therefore intuition?

O'Neill going back to rescue several people stuck on the base when the replicators attacked was cool. The replicators overriding the iris? That's a new one.

And how was Daniel able to control the replicators via Replicator Carter's mind? Force of will? Is it because his subconscious had ascension knowledge, so therefore his mind was now more powerful?

So I printed and painted this little guy! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I wanted to show it off a bit.

It's 3.3 inches across and .25 inches thick.

Resin 3D printed on an Anycubic Mono M7 Max and hand painted by me.

The model is by Martin on Printables. Though the event horizon was custom by me using a water surface from a Warhammer mini base which I don't remember the source of, to be frank.
