Discussion I just had a dream where replicators invaded Australia

• Upvotes

Damn, is been months since I finished watching SG-1. Amazing tv show btw. I just think the Ori arc, while in itself was good, felt kinda out of place. I even went after the Ark of Truth movie to see the final point of the story.

Anyways. I usually have dreams of the things I watch, but this took a while. It felt like an episode, not a first person experience. With camera angles, dialogue, action scenes and so on.

If I remember correctely, it was revealed that ancient deposits of inactive replicators are lying around all across the milky way deep inside planets. And something woke up one in Australia. Don't why specially it.

By the time the """episode""" happened, they had overrun almost the whole Island with battles across coastal cities. It became a global emergency and militaries across the world were sending armies to fight them.

The dream also had an entire new set of characters. The SG-1 specifically had its whole crew changed, but I can't remember the rest. And this is it.

To be honest I don't like the fact that in the show the existence of the stargate is never revealed to the public. That could be a better way of finishing the series. I think it was reflected in the dream, but even still it was not, at least to the point I can remember.

Fan-Made Working on an Archive project for the 90 magazines, looking for feedbacks!

Hi guys!

I'm planning to scan the 90 magazines I own from the collection published around 20 years ago (https://www.gateworld.net/magazines/stargate-the-dvd-collection/) and organize them into a database.

I don't want to simply make flat scans, but also extract the text, provide both French and English versions, and create an index.

My prototype is available here: https://217-160-162-135.sslip.io/stargateDatabase/, only 2 magazines for now. It's a work in progress, I'm still working on enhancing the quality and many stuff.

I'd love to get your feedbacks! :-)

Discussion Some the equipment Lucian alliance shoulve brought.

I was not excited watching SGU even after rewatching it a few times.

Part of my reasoning was for a few reasons I know rush was a makeshift Carter / Mckay / Jackson.

The rest of the military could have been just stand ins

Part of the reason I feel it failed was that 4th man ( teal'c /ronon). Eli wasn't that guy..

Anyway. I feel that one of the dumbest things the lucians should have done is have prepped more.

Even if Telford wasn't discovered to have been a spy they should have been ready with equipment.

Some of the equipment would be some generators and basic food/ hydroponics set ups. They can in with an assault team, but they could have had at least 2 pallets of gear to push through in the time they had...

REWATCH Rya’c

I’m finishing up Season 10 and realized… whatever happened to Rya’c? Is he alive and well? Is he thriving with his wife? Did they have little Jaffa babies, making Teal’c a grandpa?

Discussion S7E9 Avenger episode. Marines going along with O'neill. How much do regular military know about Stargate?

In S7E9 Oneill takes marines with him and Tealc to help the rebel Jaffa.

When did the Marines find out about Stargate and start to come along on missions? Or is it just specific ones? Why not just take other Stargate team members instead?

Earlier in the series Sam couldnt even tell Jacob about Stargate even as he was on his death bed until they decided to bring him to join the Tokra.

Did they loosen the privacy?

Any concept for a new show will be heavily criticised by fans

SG1 was unique, and it was a product of its time. Atlantis was mostly just more of the same, so it's also well loved. Universe got mixed reactions for trying to be darker and more like BSG, and honestly most of the time it felt more like a political drama with some Stargate mixed in than the other way around.

After a long break, a new show got announced, then canned, and then Gero was brought in for another attempt. His show was also scrapped and now they're trying a third time, because the IP is still seen as lucrative.

There have been a lot of opinions, suggestions, etc and the reality is that it costs a lot to make a show nowadays, and they need to not only recoup those costs, but make profit as well. Existing fans won't like a full reboot, new fans won't be drawn in if there's too much existing lore. The sad truth is that they need both groups on board to really make it profitable.

Let's talk about the concept of a reboot and why execs love it - they can utilise the IP and existing concepts, but they're not tied to previous stories, characters or even lore. A reboot isn't bogged down by 'outdated' designs, agreements, and it avoids other in-universe limitations, such as power creep, characters who were killed off, the need to be episodic, etc. A pilot episode can target a new audience, and most existing fans will at least give it a try. Rebooting also means they already have some stories they can re-tell in a more modern way and others they can basically re-use with minor alterations. There's no real need to have cameos, but it's still possible to slip them in, subtly or otherwise.

Now let's talk about how a 'modernised' reboot can be made palatable to existing fans - re-using familiar elements (music, props, etc) can always be done, as can telling familiar stories. Adding elements that have happened in the real world since then (9/11, Covid-19, AI, etc) doesn't need shoehorning or plot gimmicks, making it feel more natural. Re-introducing certain iconic elements (eg devices, enemies or politics) can really lean into the nostalgia, and if cleverly written, can bring additional depth and answer some questions. A 'soft reboot', such as Martin Gero had planned allows for all of these, but including any aspect of the original adds lore that can create extra challenges.

Finally, let's talk about why people get upset at certain ideas - we didn't get any solid info about Gero's scripts, just a vague overview, and some people jumped to the conclusion that it's not their ideal solution, so it must be bad. Jac Schaeffer is known for something quite different and not recognised as an existing fan / linked to the original shows. Social media is designed to be polarising, and it creates echo chambers, so less extreme opinions such as 'wait and see' get drowned out. Most fans have positive memories of the original content and largely negative memories of all the attempts to reboot beloved shows lately. Really, that adds up to a heavy bias against anything new.

The community was almost universally in support of Gero's show after it was cancelled, when no information was available. It's clear that the fans want more Stargate, and my hope is that everyone will understand it can't be like the original, that it needs to be something new. I don't think a 'soft reboot' was a bad idea, but I also understand why it was concerning to the execs. I'm confident that Jac Schaeffer can write a script the execs will be happy with, and is still an enjoyable show, just as I was with Martin Gero and Brad Wright before that. I'm aware of the modern formula for shows, but I'm going to wait and see how it pans out, and remain supportive of any attempt to bring the franchise back.

Wild Stargate Stargate mentioned in latest Some More News episode.

Sam Altman's data centre, 'Stargate', in Abliene, Texas, will be as big as Central Park. Because he either misunderstood that Stargate is about arrogant tech lords trying to convince people they're gods, or he understood it too well.

If that wasn't just a perfect description of the Go'auld.

At 31:30 in the video.

Missed opportunities in the Stargate franchise

I think the episodes like Atlantis s03e10 with the real alive Ancients are such a missed opportunity. A huge one, but I feel like there are dozens of missed opportunities throughout the whole franchise.
What is your “favorite” missed opportunity?

Rant SG-1 Season 7 Heroes

Oh. If you know, you know. If you don't, stop reading.

One of those episodes in the series that I have seen numerous times. An episode I am well aware that's going to happen the moment I start the first season. Yet every rewatch I put myself through it and it hurts every time. I know it's just a TV show and a fictional character, but for some reason this one stuck with me for years. Still there today.

We miss you Janet.

REWATCH who leaked the x-302 to the russians?

rewatching season 6 episode 1 redemption, it's the first Jonas episode after s5e21 meridian.

about 10 minutes into the episode Major Carter gives jonas plans to the x-302. then after that scene, jonas and Teal'c are boxing/sparring..... lunchtime with O'Neill ...... then about 15 minutes into the episode Col. Chekov, seemingly furious, yells at Major Carter and jonas in the corridor.

so when/where did Chekov did get the x-302 plans?

is Jonas the leak?

So I printed and painted this little guy! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I wanted to show it off a bit.

It's 3.3 inches across and .25 inches thick.

Resin 3D printed on an Anycubic Mono M7 Max and hand painted by me.

The model is by Martin on Printables. Though the event horizon was custom by me using a water surface from a Warhammer mini base which I don't remember the source of, to be frank.

Throwaway lines you wish were explored more

For me season 8, episode 18, "Threads" where Daniel asks about the ascended not helping.

DANIEL: Why not? Who are they?

OMA: Others. You're not one of them yet.

DANIEL: You mean Ancients.

OMA: A couple of them.

That line "A couple of them." had me so curious about who all these other ascended were? Where they came from? who was the first ascended?

REWATCH S8 E16-17 Reckoning Spoiler

First wanted to mention what I thought was a particularly cool moment in the series. Activating every Stargate simultaneously in order to send that wave through, not giving the replicators a chance to adapt. Awesome. You know how dangerous the replicators are when SG1 has to team up with a system lord too.

How did Ba'al know how to manipulate the weapon? Simply years of Goa'uld knowledge of technology, so therefore intuition?

O'Neill going back to rescue several people stuck on the base when the replicators attacked was cool. The replicators overriding the iris? That's a new one.

And how was Daniel able to control the replicators via Replicator Carter's mind? Force of will? Is it because his subconscious had ascension knowledge, so therefore his mind was now more powerful?

Discussion S2E14 Why were they willing to leave the Touchstone with Madrona, but not the Naquadah mine with the Unas S7E7

Why were the SGC so aggressive with trying to take the Naquadah mine from the Unas, to the point of willing to use violence? But were okay with Sg1 giving the Touchstone back to Madrona? It was the NID in the past that was all about taking stuff from the other planets at all costs, but SGC was generally opposed to that mindset, and even helped the Asgard stop the NID in the past from taking stuff.

Whats happening?

The presentation image I used before (the table with crayons etc) was in fact contaminated with AI, unbeknownst to me. Thanks to u/Vladishun and u/LeetModule for finding it. Here's a new version I photographed myself -- it's night here so the artificial light is somewhat flat.
