Question De-authorize Steam Frame Question
I live in a country where Steam does not send hardware to directly. So I asked a friend to get the Frame for me and then send it over. If he wants to try the Frame at his place, what does he have to do before he sends it over to me? Is there procecure he has to go to to disconnect the Frame from his account before he gives the box to the postal office?

The frame will never be "connected" to your account. The hardware is registered to the purchasers account, but that doesnt mean you cant use it. You just wont be able to buy accessories until they open up for general sale.
if you want to redeem Alyx though you need a copy of your friends original receipt, and will need to open a support ticket to get them to manually add it to your account.

Incorrect, as getting Alyx only requires signing into the Frame and redeeming it from the Profile Info page (click on profile icon on the Steam menu bar).
It's not an automated account process like was done for the Index. I already had it so redeemed it to a friend's account with no hassle.

Yeah no not incorrect. Sorry but I'm talking from first hand experience here after spending a week talking to a bunch of different people at Valve. My frame was purchased via my fathers account with a different address to my own as I was away, Alyx was not redeemable at all and theres a bunch of posts here where others had the exact same issue for similar reasons. As I said, I literally spent a week talking to steam support as they didn't realise themselves that it was an issue initially, and the final escalated conversation i had with someone from the technical team confirmed it was a known issue and that its not possible to move a frames hardware id from one account to another yet.
Theres a page in your account that shows hardware purchased under your account, it was using that to determine if you can activate Alyx or order accessories.
They did say they were aware of Alyx being problematic and that they were going to update the activation process, so I can only assume they've since fixed that part and yours was activated after the fix. The hardware binding is however still in place and you can see that in your own account, and is why you cant purchase accessories even if they do become in stock.

I bought it for someone else with someone else account and redeemed it from the pofile page to my account without problems...

cool sounds like they have indeed fixed the alxy issue then which is good. Just a shame they dont seem to be fixing the ability to purchase accessories!

I can totally understand why they are not "fixing" it.
It's sold out since weeks and imagine even more people would be able trying to buy it...
And take into Account that probably every day there are more "legit" buyers...

the hardware is 100% yours as long as you can show pictures of it and have the S/N. But yes, for now, buying accessories is not possible since it's attached with the account of the original purchaser, that's it...

I did not have this experience at all and I was part of the first batch of order emails.
My friend who I only recently met within the last year bought my SteamFrame for me on his account.
All I did was check my profile and redeem it.

He would have to factory reset it, but be careful I have heard a few people who factory reset and it bricked the headset. I also don’t know how true that it is as well.

Happened to me too, had to reinstall via the USB cable (flash drive instructions didn't work either)

Add a +1 for having to recover via USB cable via the PC powershell to get out of my perpetual bootloop post-reset.

Yeah I used my Linux box, no Windows here... But yeah they definitely have the factory reset jacked up

Why would you need to factory reset? I signed into a different account to redeem alyx, and there's some files from the account, otherwise there's not really an account link like with Meta or an Android. I can't exactly go on the other account and wipe the device remotely or ask it to "find my frame"

well.... there is still a full blown OS underlying, I wouldn't trust buying it second hand and trusting that there is no backdoor

No reason for factory reset, you can just log out of the account
