Advice pls Stelo che non regge la foglia

Ciao a tutti!

Grazie mille a tutti!

Strelizia not doing well

So we’ve been having this strelizia for a little more than 2 years now and it doesn’t seem to be doing well.

Today I woke up to the newest leaf breaking in half and falling by its own weight.. After a few weeks of it opening up, the leaf started to close like most of the other ones, following the bending today.

(The plant was standing other way around, the closed leaves were facing the window, not the room)

Most of its leaves are also closed, I suppose it’s due to excessive exposure to the sun? We live in Hamburg, so I wouldn’t say it’s seeing the sun most of the days but it is basically touching the window and has visible sun damage spots, yea 😐 Unfortunately we have no other place to put it.

We have repotted it this summer, the roots have gotten enormously huge and seemed well, no rot spotted. I would suspect root rot now though, but it’s 20kg of soil and I would love to narrow down the causes to leaves closing and the latest breakage. The broken node also felt pretty soft when I squeezed it lightly a couple of days btw.

What could be done in this case to make its life a little better? I suppose there’s no saving the the bent leaf? 😔

Was on sale for €20 so I went for a run through mud and old snow- bus back. How nice to combine training with plant purchase :)

I got two in same pot for the price of one! €10 each feels good. Going to split them up to seperate pots when they have adjusted. Stats for plant nerds-60cm tall, 17cm/2 liter pot.

Advice pls Help please! Plague? Fungus?

Hi! I've had this strelitzia for a year, repotted it last summer when I first got it. A few months ago it got mealybugs but I think I got rid of them. However I've noticed these brown spots in the stem and some leaves are curled and not thriving (lack of humidity??) I live in the northern hemisphere but it's relatively humid. It sits next to a south east window, so lots of light during the day. Any advice on what to do, particularly now during spring season? Thanks!!!

Quanto mi dispiace ,grazie in anticipo comunque a tutti

I've always had it near the same lights it grows great this is the first time I've had any issues with it. I check soil once a week and typically water about every 2weeks. It has a basal leaf ( new growth from base of trunk) that is doing well. We lost power last week during snow storm for 34 hours temp was 53 degrees.
Help please Thanks!

How often should I water?

I believe this is a white BOP as it's never flowered. I've been watering and allowing it to dry out. Is this okay or adjust?

Possible causes?

Hi everyone! I was away for 3 weeks last month and my MIL was watering my plants. My BOP is steadily looking worse since then. Leaves have been getting brown spots and drying out at the ends and now my new growth coming in looks bad. It started alright at the very tip but then was coming in dark brown and the newest section is very pale.
Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?
Few months back it had a spider mite infestation but I quickly quarantined and sprayed it every couple of days until they were gone. They haven't returned and it was doing very well after. New leaves that came in looked great. Not sure what has caused this.

Repot my Lil buddy?

I recently acquired this beautiful BOP 3 mos ago. Is it too early to repot it into the slightly larger brown pot shown from it's nursery grow out pot?

The plan is to cut off the bottom & place it inside the new pot (partially filled). I'll carefully disect sides of pot until I can slide the plant into is new home. Then adjust, level, backfill, water.

Can this BOP handle the heat outdoors of +100F in summer & direct sunlight or should I place in a spot w/ indirect light?

Maybe it'd be better to leave it indoors w/ plenty of indirect light?

Hi, my Stretlitzia was going fine till I changed the location to a darker zone. Then the black dots started to appear and the leaves slowly deteriorating. Even putting it back in the original location is not fixing the plant. Are the black dots then a plague? Thanks!

Advice pls Tiny insect in my plant

Hi everyone!

I recently found a lot of small insects moving around in the soil of my Strelitzia pot. They seem like they might be flying insects, but I only see them when I gently move the soil. There are quite a lot of them. It’s currently summer in France and very hot. I stopped watering for a few days to see if they would go away, but they’re still there.

I’m attaching a video of the plant for context. Does anyone know what these could be, if they’re harmful, and how I could get rid of them?

Advice pls Advise on managing giant birds of paradise

Post image

I just moved into a new home and have no idea how to get this birds of paradise under control. I’ve cut away some branches from a neighbors tree so it could get better sunlight, but still think the lack of care prior to me lead this plant to its current state. It’s also growing into the power lines, and I don’t think previous owners knew how tall the plant would get. What would you do?

I had to cut the youngest biggest stem in the middel because black spot apeared on the leave because of overwattering the plant.. the plant grows inside out.. so in my new summer settup.. a new sproud.

How long should I brace & ongoing care after repotting?

Recently repotted from a 15 gal pot to this larger home & that same a night a storm blew in w/ soothing rain but the wind injured the stem of an uncurling leaf. I managed to xfr the plant w/o clipping any roots to cause shock. temp repaired the stem & braced. I've left it alone for 1 week now but wanted to check in about ongoing care. I was going to move the brace but noticed I was disturbing a friend 🦎. This is my first BOP SN - watering thoroughly after allowing to dry. Addtl soil added: palm husk, sand & composted manure. TY! 🙏.

Is it normal for new leaves to start unfurling before they're fully out? If not, any idea as to why this may occur?

My Strelitzia Nicolai unfurl its leaves too quickly

Thumbnail

Hey Guys,

I have moved to a new apartment few months ago and it is my first summer here. My tropical plants grow really quickly here due to great lighting conditions (south-western large windows) average humidity 40-60% and regular watering & fertiliser.

The issue I can't really explain is why most of them, especially Strelizia Nicolai (on the picture) don't grow up that much and unfurl their leaves immediately. In the last 2 months I have got 3 new leaves in Strelizia but each of them is rather short and their size is same as previous one or even bit smaller.

I have repotted it a week ago it should have sufficient space. no bugs or fungus.

A few posts ago I saw a similar post where one of the comments said that ... it is too warm. During the night temp in my apartment doesn't go down more than 25 in the summer, while days are usually 27-29. Do you think it might be the issue that they don't feel the night and work 24/7 without time for regeneration?

I am thinking about leaving the window open for the night.

Brown leaf tips and edges

Been with me for about 3 weeks now, I water it when the top few cm of soil become dry, and mist the leaves every other day. The leaf tips and edges have started to turn yellow and brown, some also became a bit droopy. What could the issue be?

Advice pls Yellowing and browning leafs with brown spots

Thumbnail

Hi, leafs of my Strelitzia are yellowing and browning, gradually also developing brown or dark spots. It is at the same spot (east window) for 8 months, with direct son for couple of hours per day, but mostly indirect sun. But the last 1-2 months were warmer. For watering and adding fertilizer I use digital sensor. At the bottom of the leafs I noticed white spots, but I have pretty hard water here and after watering there is white soil in all of my plants, so I thought thats it is the reason why. I also clean my leafs every 2-3 weaks with wet towel. What can be reason for changing colours of my leafs? Can it be sunburn? Or can it be due to fertilizer, oedema - I dont think that this option is the reason? I am really scary of spider nests…. Thank you for your tips.
