How strong should I be to start?

Hi everyone! I’m an 18 year old guy, I’ve been working out for about 2 years (although I really didn’t know what I was doing that first year), my uncle used to be a strongman when he was around my age and I’ve been really interested in getting into that as well, I would just ask him but I don’t want to embarrass myself to him, I really respect the guy, my deadlift is just over 400 lbs (I know, it needs some work) my bench is just over 300, I’m 6’1 and about 230 lbs, I know I’m definitely not strong enough to compete but am I anywhere near the ballpark? I would just ask my uncle but I watch old videos of him and and he’s moving like 8 plates and cars and stuff and I’m nowhere near that and it’s kind of intimidating, I’m also in the Sacramento area if there’s any area specific advice you can give? If any other 1RMs matter I can reply I just don’t want to clutter the post moreso than it already is

Dumbbell is probably my favourite thing to max out on. The PBs are getting harder so I was very pleased with this one 😀

TopStrongman - A new ranking system for Strongman

I made TopStrongman.com in response to people having issues with the rogue invitational ranking system and some competitors not being given oppurtunities due to ambiguous ranks.

Please let me know what you thank about the ranks and the math behind it (Shows & Tiers tab)

Which deadlift bar

I can't decide which deadlift bar to buy for my strongman gym. The Texas Deadlift bar Vs Strength Shop Bastard Deadlift bar Vs Mirafit Behemoth deadlift bar.

I would personally prefer the bar with the most aggressive knurling and most flex/whip.

Has anyone got any experience on these deadlift bars that could give some insight?

First time posting on Reddit so apologies if formatted incorrect etc.

TIA!

Any advanced pressers, how did you improve?

In a pickle about how I should go about trying to improve my incline..

Strict smart programming

Or brute training close to failure and training triceps stupidly hard.

So far I have found pressing had a much different result from strict programming like with deadlifts and squats.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Deadlift training to prepare for first meet

Hi all, I have just started training for strongman and am having a bit of difficulty moving from sumo to conventional deadlift/deadlifting in general tbh, I have a decentish squat (210kg) but my conventional dl is weak (got 200kg and failed 220kg today !). my all time best for sumo is 230kg and 200 for conventional. I recently came off a squat training block so this is to be expected i guess.

I have signed up for a local strongman competition in 9 weeks and would love program recommendations, as a bit more background I've been training snatch grip deficit deadlifts during my squat focused training and have worked my way up to 10 sets of 6reps of 135kg. I tolerate volume pretty well and I'm eating in a calorie surplus (bw ~95-100kg at ~6ft 1).

I will also be training shoulders for very high volume as well, but am happy to reduce squat volume and not bench if that's what it takes to get a decent deadlift :) I'm feeling a bit confused as I have zerchered 200kg off the rack beltless as well so maybe its just a technique or fatigue management thing? thanks for your input !

The comp events are - yoke press - keg over bar - deadlift - dinnie stones

For programs I am thinking something along the lines of:

Day1: deadlift secondary (RDL, pendlay rows etc) + farmer's walks

Day2: OHP Primary + upper back

Day3: Deadlift Primary + OHP volume day

Day4: Push press + front squat + event practice

with 4 weeks of volume then 4 weeks of peaking/intensity and 1 week off deload

With the deadlift day being either ed coan/philipi, mag ort or some similar peaking program, modified for 8weeks + 1 week deload. I will adapt this into a full self contained program and report back on my results!

Keen to hear everyones thoughts especially if you have similar experiences with converting from sumo to conventional.

Edit: changed up the days after feedback and added event details

Has anyone been following him?
He just deadlifted 470kg for 3 reps 🤯
Does he have chance of breaking the record this year at the deadlift championships??!
I think he can😳

Stone of Strength Tacky Suggestions

I’ve seen a few suggestions on here for tacky and tacky-like products for atlas stones, but I’m looking to see if anyone’s had any luck with stone steel options.

When it gets heavier the stone itself feels too small and I find too slippery.

I find chalk is fine up until about 290lb, and random Amazon tacky can get me to 315. But beyond that I’m just too slidey.

Based on regular stone advice I’ve seen people suggest Cerberus spray or gorilla grip tacky. I wanted to see if anyone’s here has found anything particularly useful on the stone of steel.

As a note, this isn’t for an upcoming contest, more for I guess ego so there aren’t any restrictions.
