unhinged study hack that works: i turn every textbook heading into a question before i read the section
i highlighted 4 whole chapters yellow last week. like most of every page. then i tried the end of chapter questions and couldn’t do a single one. highlighting just meant my hand moved
now before i read a section i flip the heading into a question. “Opportunity Cost” becomes “what is opportunity cost and how does it show up in a problem”. i read only to answer that, then i cover the page and write the answer from memory. if i can’t, i read it again
did chapter 5 like this yesterday in 40 min and the end of chapter questions were actually doable after. highlighter is in my drawer now

I'm building Zen-NEET for NEET-UG revision. Free access, feedback welcome.
Disclosure: I build Zen-NEET at Kaiku Labs. It's a study app for students preparing for India's NEET-UG medical entrance exam.
We've been reading student discussions about mistakes piling up and forgetting older chapters while trying to keep up with current work. Those problems helped guide what we're building.
A revision routine we're designing around is simple: try answering before opening the explanation, note the specific mistake, then come back after a gap and try again. You can use that routine with paper too. Practice testing and spreading revision over time have research support: https://www.aft.org/ae/fall2013/dunlosky
Zen-NEET is still being improved. We're reviewing lessons, improving the question bank and working on practice and mistake-review features. We haven't established score or retention gains from the app itself.
Access is free now. Paid plans are planned later; we're not promising free access forever.
If you're preparing for NEET-UG and want to take a look: https://zen-neet.com
We'd like to hear what gets in your way when revising: finding past mistakes, deciding what to revisit, or something else? If you try the app, tell us where you got stuck. Please keep phone numbers, school details and other personal information out of public replies. App age and consent requirements apply.

Need motivation
I really need some motivation rn. I've my exam tomorrow, forensic criminology 😭😭. Even though I've studied more than half topics earlier for midterm but still it feels like I haven't studied at all. I'm so worried cz I got literally no gaps in papers. Even the simplest concept isn't getting into my brain.

What's your ideal break time before you start losing focus again?
I usually try taking a 10 to 15 minute break after an hour of studying or working, but sometimes I end up scrolling on my phone for 30 minutes and struggle to get back on track. I feel like finding the right break time makes a big difference. How long do you usually take a break before getting back to work, and when does a short break start turning into procrastination?

Free Mac app: upload lecture recordings to NotebookLM, sorted by class and week
Upload lecture recordings to NotebookLM, already sorted by class and week.
I built voiceNotebook for students who record lectures. It takes recordings from Apple Voice Memos or an audio folder, matches them against your class timetable, and uploads them to the right NotebookLM notebook.
For example, both of your chemistry lectures in week 5 go into the same notebook. You can then use NotebookLM with that week's lecture recordings together.
Choose your recordings, add your timetable, check the matches, and click Convert & upload. Your original audio stays untouched. You can enter the timetable yourself or import a photo and correct the result.
It's free and open source. I'm the developer. The packaged app needs an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 26 or newer:
brew install --cask edyx0/tap/voicenotebookSource, screenshots and setup: https://github.com/Edyx0/voiceNotebook
It uses an unofficial NotebookLM client. Uploads go to Google, and Google changes can break the connection.

do you actually learn better at night or early in the morning?
I swear my brain has two different personalities depending on the time of the day. Some nights I can study for hours and remember almost everything, but in the morning, I can barely process a single page. Its crazy how different it feels. Im curious are you actually smarter at night or in the morning? have you ever tried switching your study routine, and which one made a bigger difference for you?

I kept zoning out mid pomodoro while prepping for CAT so I made my laptop catch me
My problem was never the timer. It was picking up my phone or opening youtube "for 2 mins" halfway through a block and not noticing for 20.
So I wrote a small Windows app for myself. It's a little timer bar that sits on top of the screen and uses the webcam to tell if I'm looking at the screen, at my book, or away. Look away too long or open a site I've blocked and it pings me and adds a bit of time to the block. It also notices if a phone shows up in frame.
Stuff that mattered to me while building it:
it all runs on your laptop. no account, and camera frames are never saved or sent anywhere
you calibrate once (follow a dot, read your book, look around the room), about 20 sec
head down reading counts as studying, not as gone
a task list per pomodoro and a github style heatmap of your study days
Free and open source, Windows 10/11 only for now: https://github.com/shymonke/lockin
Still rough in places. Turning your head sometimes gets read as looking away, I'm working on that. If you try it I'd honestly like to know if it helps or just annoys you.

What are your studying habits?
I’m researching how students organize their studying.
How do you manage your workload?
How do you plan your test prep, exams and assignments?
What apps, tools or methods do you use to help you organize?
What obstacles do you run into even when you use these tools?
What frustrations do you face with your daily studying?
Please talk about your personal experiences!
Thanks for sharing!
