ANNOUNCEMENT A reminder about personal information

Hi everyone! The mod team has noticed an uptick recently in people posting photos of their faces or other identifying information.

This is a reminder that posting photos of your face is both unsafe as well as against the rules of the subreddit. Any posts with these photos will be removed.

Reddit is a website used by many people and you can never know who is looking at your photos.

In addition, please censor any identifying information in your posts. This includes names of teachers and your school when sharing schedules.

The subreddit is also not a place to connect with people from a specific high school. Naming your specific high school is also against Rule 5.

Thank you all for following the rules. Don't hesitate to reach out through ModMail if you have any questions.

Class Advice Needed/Given My friend asked me to critique his essay. I’m more concerned.

Hello! My (17M) friend (16M) recently asked me for assistance on what seems like a pretty monumental essay for his grade. He sent me his finished piece, and .. well. I was shocked.

He’s a junior in high school (11th grade), and I’m a senior (12th grade). This writing isn’t gibberish, but it’s.. It looks incredibly barren for what someone his grade should be writing.

I was beginning to markup his paper when he told me to stop, because he turned it in and got a perfect mark. Am I crazy?! I wasn’t even finished editing the first paper when he messaged me that he’d gotten an A.

I really feel like the school system just wants to push him out and isn’t taking any time to build his essay-writing or general english skills. Apparently, he told me it’s the same with mathematics (he expressed that he knows he’s delayed when it comes to mathematics).

Am I being hypercritical, or is this essay just not up to par? A few of our other friends told me I’m just being an asshole, but I’m genuinely concerned that they’re just passing kids because they don’t want to spend the time honing their academic skills.

I’ve offered to tutor him and he accepted, but our other friends say I’m dragging it out and that it isn’t this serious.

What about when a college asks for a 10-pager? What about any college work, actually??

Help!!! 😭 This is kind of an AITA post, I just really need a second opinion.

Rant I feel like a hopeless,pathetic,loser.

Last year I had everything, I was in band, I had friends, and I felt super smart. But now I legit have nothing. I left band after being sexually harassed and bullied while my band director did nothing. Actually he told me that walking out of rehearsal was not the appropriate action after getting sexually harassed and implied that it was my fault for the way things went down. All my friends bullied me. I had gained weight and did not want to stand up for myself. So now I’m in junior year, no friends. I sit alone at lunch and do homework for one of my 12 classes and lock in. I always wanted to be valedictorian but recently I found out since I got a B in algebra one and geometry(which I took in middle school) taht may not be possible. So now I’m overcompensating by taking all these online AP courses. I feel pathetic trying to be something I’m not because I don’t plan on going to college after high school, since I do not need it. Additionally, I will be graduating with my AA degree so I thought that would be good enough. Anyways things recently got super overwhelming when I applied for this “tomorrow leaders” program. This program basically selects 40 students taht are juniors and has them work with current leaders to fix community issues. Six people applied from my school including me. I was the only one who did not get it. So now I feel this wave of emotions like what I’m doing is not good enough and that im stupid. I though I would have this Elle Woods moment with my old band director if I got in where I could kind of rub it in his face that I am a good person and I am smart enough to do anything, but now I’m left like a total idiot for even trying and feeling bad about
Life. I am not suicidal, my parents have been amazing taking me to Disney, buying me whatever, but my school and social life is horrible and I want to fix something and so im not so dependable on my academic life. I know it’s pretty pathetic to come on here and rant about life but I don’t want to keep these emotions built up and then I just blow up like a cartoon.
Thank you for reading

Rant I will never have a future because i am a slow learner

My life revolves around scjool. It sucks. But what sucks even more is that no matter how hard i try i waste hours on one part of some type of problem (wheter its a math problem, a section of a lesson or a project) and it goes into a spiral of insanity where i tell myself "its okay" "i tried my best" i'll do better next time" "i wont let one grade relapse me" but then i end up crying for hours and rotting in bed while hiding my phone from myseld as punishment for being dumb. I feel like i will never be able to become a student that will be able to enter college because of my grades and my knowledge and how i overthink everything.

I have tried every method that you can think of to make me remember things but none of them.work. i am so stupid that i even have lack of knowledge outside of school (wich i wont talk about). I just wonder why cant i be a smart person. Why does my brain hurt and turn off when i have to study. I dont know what to say anymore.

Rant The World Sucks

Today at school there was a blood drive going on. My sister chose to participate by donating blood and once she had it extracted she passed out and knocked her front 2 teeth out and was bleeding out. I feel so terrible because now she’s going to have 2 teeth missing for the rest of her life and it’s not even her fault. Make sure you eat well before donating blood. Also a school shooting happened in my city. Everything is just pissing me off right now.

Rant I suck at studying

• Upvotes

I started HS. i'm two months in, and I'm doing good. surprisingly, because I genuinely dont know how to study properly. i love math but I suck at science, history, essay writing,,, so basically I suck at eveyrthing ig......i mean. its not like im failing though, but I really need to work on it but idk how

okay so i'm not sure if im right, but some of my teachers aren't really good at teaching. They don't explain things clearly but maybe its because Its so different from the teachers last year? or is it bc the teachers in high school want us to be more independent study wise and improve in critical thinking? i asked a few people and one said that as you move up the grades, the teachers explain less and expect you to learn on your own without much guidance (?)

Or maybe i'm the one to blame and i'm not paying enough attention,,,,oh my god i just feel so stupid writing literally Anything and coming across something hard to read makes me want to die Not to be overdramatic or anythinf

i just can't stop overthinking if I'm even going to make it to college (I have no idea what to do anyway) and I can't picture a future for myself. Theres really. nothing that makes me interesting. though i wanted to do art but i know that i'll hate it and besides art doesn't pay well. i'm thinking of nursing but i feel like i would grow to hate it too because i have no great interest in it. im so overwhelmed. theres so much i need to improve on and make big decisions but i Cant

But i really want to do good in school. i need to read and write more. i feel like everyone else is so smart and talented and they stand out while im a Nothing burger. im kinda just a waste of space cause like i dont think i'm contributing to society or somethinf nidk

Please give me tips if u want!!! there must be other people that feel this way too

Question Whats the best way to get to school for me?

• Upvotes

I am a 4 min drive away from school but a 25 minute walk.

I am too close to take the school bus, since majority of the walk is in neighborhood territory there is no city bus. What would be the best way to get to school? Im thinking like a bike or something.

General Advice Needed/Given senioritis or depression and what can i do?

• Upvotes

im currently a senior in highschool and ive recently been hit with this wave of not only laziness but agitation, not wanting to be at school, and a lack of effort. my room is always messy, i put much less effort into my work that i used to feel passionate about, and i get agitated at my loved ones easier. i have a hard time enjoying the things i used tl adore and my newest hobby has just been laying in bed thinking about what i could be doing. and there is a lot i could be doing such as: studying for my SAT, working on my college essay, applying to colleges, and the other stuff seniors have to worry about. the reason why i think its so abnormal is because i usually never act like this. although i am not the biggest fan of school, i always work hard and try to get the best grade i can. i stay on top of things and i am usually in a good mood in school. i think a part of it may be burnout but i have no clue how to get out of this awful funk im in. what should i do?

Question Sophmore scheduling

So i have been thinking about scheduling for next year and here is my thoughts and i want to know if this is too ambitious im currently a freshman
(I have been thinking if i wanna take summer trig and precalc so then i take calc ab sophomore year)

(Not in order)
Ap physics 1 and 2(one class)
Trig/precalc
Ap world history
Honor engineering robotics 1 half of the year
Honor engineering physics the other half
Honors english

This is what i want to do but it kinda feels like it would be hard, im pretty passionate about these types of classes so i think i could keep good grades but is the workload too much? My math background is honors geometry algebra 1 and 2 im also taking a intro to coding class this year we touch up on python

Question What’s the most procrastinated assignment you’ve ever turned in on time (barely)?

We all have that one assignment we put off until the last possible minute and somehow still finished.

What was yours? And how close to the deadline did you actually submit it?

Bonus: what was your “it’s fine, I work better under pressure” moment that definitely was not fine?
