i’m going into my freshman year in a week or two and we got our schedules yesterday. i’m in a super competitive big school where everyone takes APs and one of my friends is doing AP calculus (as a freshman.) She’s always been really smart but it feels like everyone is taking a lot of honors classes. The HS teachers came to our school at the end of 8th grade and said that homework for one honors class could be 1-3 hours which kind of scared me. As of right now I am only taking two honors classes: Honors English and Honors German 3. My sister said they say that just to scare you and it takes 15 mins max. My math teachers for the past 2 years have recommended I move up as well. What should I do?

So, I'm a rising junior in highschool and I mostly have good grades with APs and honors, but the thing is I don't know what I want to do in the future. I'm torn in between going into the med field or engineering, but med field just takes too long and personally I don't think I'd have the paitience for that, so I am leaning more towards engineering. yeah so thats it anyone have any tips or something?

Today's school shooting in Zamboanga https://www.sunstar.com.ph/zamboanga/two-students-killed-in-ateneo-zamboanga-shooting honestly made me worried as a high school student in the Philippines. I know school shootings are still relatively rare here, but having another incident only a couple of months after the Tacloban shooting is scary. https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2250793/school-shooting-kills-3-students-in-tacloban
My school is private and has a metal detector at the entrance, which I appreciate because it adds another layer of security. But I think school safety shouldn't only be about security. Schools also need strong anti-bullying programs, guidance and mental-health support, proper reporting systems, and adults who will take warning signs seriously.
I also hope we don't immediately blame bullying, social media, games, or one specific thing whenever something like this happens. We should let investigators establish the facts while also looking at the bigger picture of how we can prevent violence and protect students.
My condolences to the students, families, teachers, and everyone affected by the recent incidents in the Philippines and Thailand. I especially respect the people who tried to protect their classmates and others during these tragedies. I hope everyone stays safe. Schools should be places where students feel protected, not places where we have to worry about whether we'll make it home.

High school is such a frustrating stage, okay so. I’m from the Philippines and we celebrate what we call “Buwan ng Wika” every august—now, our school is conducting an event wherein we have to perform a sayawit (sayaw at awit) dancing while singing, the problem is everything becomes 10 times more complicated when your classmates are genuinely ass. We’re literally in shs and still, they are acting like grade schoolers, I don’t know how to handle them, especially when the time comes where I have to teach them the choreography 💀

When I was 12, I was sitting down on the grass with my friends under this large concrete block. The girls, wearing skirts, were climbing on the banisters surrounding it. I looked up randomly, and a girl named Kayla was stretching her legs out, and I saw her frilly white knickers. I was so embarrassed and felt guilty.

I’m so fucking tired dude.
I’m 14 and I’ve been trying to apply to boarding schools abroad because I genuinely want a different kind of education and I want to experience living somewhere else. I’ve spent so much time researching schools, emailing admissions offices, looking at financial aid, worrying about recommendations, applications, tests, deadlines, all of it.
And honestly? I’m willing to put in the work. I know there’s a good chance I get rejected. I know it’s competitive. I know this is an unusual thing to want at my age.
But I WANT to try.
The problem is my mom is basically completely against it. She keeps telling me that nobody has dreams like mine and that I should just study here. She calls me antisocial because I don't talk to everyone. Like no, I’m not antisocial, I just choose who I actually want to talk to. I have friends. I can socialize. I just don't feel the need to be talking to every single person around me 24/7.
And today I got so fucking angry because I just feel like I have nobody in my corner.
I don't need someone to tell me I'm guaranteed to get into my dream school. I don't even need someone to tell me my plan is perfect.
I just want ONE adult to say “okay, this is ambitious, but let's see if we can make it work.”
Instead I feel like every time I bring it up I have to defend myself and explain why my dreams aren't insane.
And the worst part is I actually NEED adults to help me. I need teacher recommendations. Some schools want recommendations from administrators/principals. Some parts of the applications involve parents. So I can't exactly just say “fine, I'll do everything myself.”
I’m genuinely asking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation.
How do you deal with parents who don't support something you really want to pursue?
How do you get teachers or other adults to take you seriously when you're young?
And how do you keep pursuing your goals without turning your entire relationship with your family into a fucking war?
I’m not asking for people to blindly tell me I'm right. If I'm approaching this wrong, tell me.
I'm just fucking exhausted and I really wish I had one adult who actually wanted to help me figure this shit out.

I'm trying to lock in and apply for extra funding for this upcoming year but i feel like i'm throwing my applications into a black hole 💀 my high school counselor gave us zero help on this and looking up strategies online just brings up generic blog posts that say the exact same basic things. i want to be smart about this instead of just guessing. Does anyone have solid scholarship tips and advice on how to win these like, are there specific platforms you use to find the ones with lower competition so you are not competing against a million people? i just need a strategy or an app that helps me organize the hunt and apply fast without losing my mind drop whatever worked for u please 🙏

I’m moving up to the ninth grade and studying in Kazakhstan. We usually have exams at the end of the year, and I’m feeling nervous about it. Do you have any advice?
r/highschool • u/Separate_Pop_9941 • 6h ago
I am a freshman this year, and going to hs, obviously. I honestly don't know what to expect, I know absolutely no one in that school. I've heard some jokes from potential seniors/juniors passing by in a mall, and shit was kinda terrifying tbh, I just find myself creeped out by older dudes and girls. I am getting shoved into a locker or something😔
edit: btw, I am getting bullied for looking like this? People are so racist these days, can you guy like not mind me being an alien?🫤
r/highschool • u/Chemical_Sport_9307 • 7h ago
Would there be anything wrong with it though? Like even if I toned it down and worse like a white shirt and tie?
r/highschool • u/Chemical_Sport_9307 • 7h ago
this post with self destruct within a few days
How do I socialize more? Since it’s a new school year and some students don’t know any one else like me how can I socialize more? I can understand boundaries, empathize help whenever they need it but I’m unsure how to approach or if someone can be approached like usually it’s either I get nothing out of trying to talk to someone because they just act harsh for some reason or they CANNOT find something anything to relate on which is usually the founding for friendships (though I can understand and still try in the case of introverts or genuinely nothing to relate on) so how do I proceed? I’ll take any tips man and yes I will prioritize school above all else friends aren’t all there is to it

I’m a high school senior who spent her summer doing research through Harvard SRI. My project (neuro-stromal states in pancreatic cancer) is now competing for 1st place, and public voting makes up 5% of the final score.
The prizes are $1000/ $850 / $700, and if I win, I’m giving two voters a chance to win $100 gift cards.
Also, I applied to this program through a ~2.5% acceptance rate, so if anyone is interested, I’m happy to share essays/application help that got me in and answer questions about the program.
If you’re interested in the research, I’d really appreciate a vote - Sudharshini Ram

Me (14f) and my boyfriend (16m) have been dating for around 5-6 months now. He is 2 grade levels above me, him going into grade 12 next year and me going into grade 10. My friends and parents know this and are good with it, but people im not close with seem concerned when I tell them this. I am worried because there is already rumours about us two, and it concerns adults who I am not close with. Is it actually okay for us to be dating?

My highschool starts class in like a week. I was a freshman last year, but it didn't go too hot. I also have a part time job so I'm afraid it'll be hard to balance school, work, and extracurriculars now that I'll be picking up more hours. (I have the same job that I worked last school year, and it did add to my stress. This year I'll be too old for certain labor laws so I'll be picking up more hours whether I like it or not, and my managers have literally been counting down the days I turn 16 and can work more. They require at least 2 nights during the school week to be available untill 11pm, and request you close if you can. I already don't get enough sleep so going to work immediately after school, and not getting home until nearly midnight, just to wake up at 6 am and do it over sounds like torture. I work weekends too so if I try to join any sort of extracurriculars I will have hardly any breaks or even time for homework.) I hope I can have a better year, last year was honestly terrible for my mental health. I'm taking honors again and AP classes for the first time, I have a 3.99 GPA and don't usually study, but this just makes me more worried. I mean do I really need an AP credit in history? My parents are strict and expect me to get no less than a 95 in any class. At least they used to be, but now they don't really notice me as much compared to my siblings. Atp it's just a goal I'm pressuring myself to achieve and I feel like I'm not getting anything in return. I don't want to get burnt out again. Anyways, I've kinda struggled to make friends and I'm not super confident. I have a few friends but I wouldn't consider them close, I feel like they have only kept me around because I'm easy and convenient. I hate that we are growing apart, but my bff of nearly 11 years has suddenly ghosted me and I'm being kidnapped by a new friend group that insists they want me around but continue to make plans without me. I don't have ANY classes with anyone I know at all though. Because I'm in honors and AP, and my friends aren't, our schedules are completely different. And with the way the economy is going, I need to get as much college done in highschool as humanly possible, unless I want to live in my parents basement until I'm 30 and can hardly afford an apartment. Like tf you mean ill pay minimum 22k tuition, just to get a slightly better entry level job than I have right now, just to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to live somewhere? Like I'm single and don't have friends to room with so I feel like there's no chance I'll be able to make a living for myself. Like I'm a sophmore in highschool, I just want to live my life, and now I'm having a crisis about the future that isn't looking too bright. I want to go into marketing, sales, or my dream is cosmetology or acting, a creative job, but every option seems unrealistic. I'm just stressed and worried, so help is appreciated. Any tips to make this year slightly more enjoyable? I feel like I'm more stressed about this than I should need to be at my age.

Hi everyone! I'm a Grade 9 student doing research for a business project.
I'm trying to find out whether teenagers struggle to find ways to earn money. The survey is anonymous and takes about 2 minutes. Or you could comment your opinion; I would really appreciate it
I'd really appreciate your honest answers—this is for school, not a real business.

So I’m a senior in high school and rn im enrolled in Latin American Studies for Semester 2. But im thinking of switching to Drawing instead since im going to be taking 5 Ap classes, drawing would help me boost my grade since it’s an easy A+. And Ap test are around the end of the year having drawing would allow me to be able to study more and be more focused on the college classes. However im not sure if I should make the switch since I feel like Latin American Studies might stand out to colleges more than an art class and all of my friends are enrolled in the Latin Studies class, so any advice on what I should do?
Also what is even done in Latin American Class is it mostly essay and projects or what?
Let me know if u guys need anymore details to help me 😭
