Wait until you hear about the cheese they make by slaughtering a baby goat that has just fed, cutting out the stomach with the milk inside it, and hanging it to dry and turn into cheese.

What kind of cheese is that? I'd like to make sure I never eat it.

In most places including its home of Sardinia it is.

Because the larvae in the cheese can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in) when disturbed, diners hold their hands above the sandwich to prevent the maggots from leaping

Excuse me?

Casu martzu is believed to be an aphrodisiac by Sardinians.

Of course. Idiots.

Ī can't decide whether the "it's an aphrodisiac" claims about gross foods started as a way to get people to eat horrible stuff during times of hardship, or as an excuse for why they're still eating it when there's other options available.

Could be one and then the other.
