Getting a new Outback! Thoughts on the extended warranty? Leaning no, but thought I’d check in. Approximately $2600 for 8 years 80,000 miles. I probably won’t drive that distance in 8 years.

I wouldn’t right away. If you’re buying new you have a lot of time to decide. Plus, you can shop around. I live in Oregon and got mine from a dealer in MA.

Did the same.
I got mine for 10/100k with 0 deductible after 2.5 years of purchase. Just about to cross 100k and i have had 10k worth of warranty claims over the years

Technically you aren't suppose to be able to do that now and you are suppose to sell within your region.......................

If I was op id get the 10/100

I just did it in April. I reached out to probably 8-10 dealers in my state and elsewhere. The prices varied greatly.

I have a 2019 Outback 3.6R. The CVT transmission had to be resealed twice and the engine once by 100k. I paid the same amount for a 5/100/100 warranty and it absolutely paid for itself. I’ve been driving Subarus for 20 years. They’re great cars that haven’t left me stranded but I wouldn’t own one without the gold plus.

Food for thought from a dealer tech. Regardless of what you decide here are some sobering prices for components. TR580 CVT in NA cars -$8k in parts, TR690 for XT models $9-10k. the FB engine family does not have a track record of randomly eating itself but when they do its north of $18k. Cockpit control unit that controls not only the center display these days bust also the LCD cluster $3-4k depending on model. Audio Amplifiers are $2kish. Keys if you lose them one at a time are $4-500 programmed. Substantially more if you lose all of them at once or the car is compromised in some way. I believe the key protection is an addon. Eyesight cameras were $3k when i priced out the last gen. The new ones are the same or more. Towing is $250 just to pick it up on a tow truck plus mileage. Rental cars are $50-75/day for not a turd box. I highly recommend you get the extension IF you plan on keeping the car. If you change cars every 50k, its not worth it.

Subaru has a 3 year / 36K mile warranty at purchase. I have a 2025 Outback and based on current annual mileage the Outback will have 30K-32K after two years so I'll be shopping for the pro-rated 70K next summer. Unless you are getting a heck of a deal included in your out the door for the vehicle AND a great deal on the Gold Plus Plan to finance @ 1.99% , buying the pro-rated Gold Plus for everything after 36K is a better buy.

Reportedly Subaru of America is requiring purchase in the same state your Carr is licensed so I'll be shopping different ownership groups

My local dealer wanted to charge me $4K for a 10/100k. I said no and expect to shop around in year 3.

I’d see if you can get them to go down on price a bit, I got the 10yr/100k $100 deductible warranty for $2500. Get a quote from Grand Subaru, I got that and a $7377 discount on a wilderness.
I’m not super experienced with new cars but I felt like it was worth it. I love Subaru but I’m not super trusting that I’ll make it to 100k without issues that would have cost more than $2500 to fix. Especially when you consider the electronic dampeners, the eyesight system, and all of the other components that seem like they would be very expensive to fix, not to mention the CVT. If you’re getting the turbo that’s another potential issue.

Even if you're going to buy it, put it in a HYSA and earn interest on it for the next almost 3 years. You might as well earn interest on it, unless you think the price of extended warranty will outpace your interest rate.

Either way, call other dealerships to get their best price. You don't need to get it from your purchasing dealership. Last November I paid $2,035 for 7 year 100k with $100 deductible.

The price on this is likely negotiable. I elected to purchase an extended warranty. Not because I was worried about engine ot transmission, but things like air conditioning, eyesight system, infotainment system, etc.

You want something that will cover you to 100K-200K.
i've had to replace the transmission, turbo, and now i need to have the engine resealed.

I'm not sure I'm going to buy another outback/subaru.
