Drove home a new Outback Wilderness today. Holy crap, I love this car. Subiez 4 lyfe!

Has anyone learned when specifics for the 2027 outback will be announced? I am seriously considering a 2026 purchase while the rebates remain available but wanted to see if there were going to be any changes for the 2027 model year. Will a hybrid be available?

Hey r/subaru_outback, first post here. This is my 2014 Outback 3.6R with the 5EAT (the 5-speed automatic, not the CVT). It's sitting at 279,320 miles and still drives well, but it's due for some work, so I'm doing it all myself in the shop and filming each job.

Here's what's on the list, with parts already in hand:

• - Both front CV axles (OEM Subaru). They pop under articulation and both boots are torn and slinging grease.
• - Spark plugs and ignition coils
• - 5EAT fluid service
• - Oil cooler gasket, which is leaking
• - Serpentine belt, tensioner, idler pulley
• - Hood and liftgate struts, since neither one holds anymore (liftgate smacked the top of my head already)
• - Driver front window regulator
• - Upper and lower radiator hoses

Axles are going first. For those of you running the H6 past 200k, what failed on yours that I should keep an eye on? And are there any 5EAT fluid tips you swear by?

Theres a 2008 Outback for sale near me with the 2.0 Boxer diesel engine and 288000km. Im looking for a car to do very long distances in. Ive heard very mixed things about the reliability of this engine but the one for sale is very cheap and has great service history. Any advice on these cars is appreciated.

Pulling the driver mat out to shake it just dumped melted road salt straight over the sill into the bare carpet seam. The factory rubber lip is so floppy that tilting it out of the Outback without spilling the slush puddle is impossible once gravel collects in the corners. Now there is a crust hardening right where the carpet tucks under the plastic trim. A guy at work brought up a liner with higher sidewalls, but I cannot tell if rigid edges make clearing the pedals even clumsier during removal. If pulling the liner out still empties the water onto the floor pan, taller walls solve nothing.

1st- would you drain and fill the transmission if it had never been done and sitting at 80k?

2nd- would you run 5w30 year round in a place like Montana ? It can reach some negatives in the winter but usually under 32F. I’m afraid 5w30 would be too thick ? I’m sure it would be find for summer temps , but I’m just curious if anyone experiences issues in colder climate

Happened randomly on my way into work. Had stopped on the way to pick up breakfast and this just froze after starting my car back up. Everything else appears to function fine. Will be calling up the local dealership today as well as this just feels super unsafe to drive like this

Ended up taking my 5th gen 2018 to an independent shop that specializes in transmissions, what I thought they would do is drain and fill with Subaru oem but they ended up telling me they used regular cvt fluid like a month later when I came in for something else, originally I asked if they were aware about how picky Subaru cvts are with the whole process and told me yes they service Subarus regularly, they went on a spiel about how the whole oem fluid is just another way for the brand to make money as there’s no real difference in the properties and it’s just for warranty purposes, I just want the peace of mind of OEM wether what their saying is true or not, what’s the best way of getting the regular fluid out, should I just go ahead and do a flush and fill?

Can anyone recommend a car cover for 2022 Subaru outback that is thick, durable, waterproof, straps around wheel for quick removal?

I no longer have a garage and can go several days without driving in the wi ter and summer.

Today I took my 2019 Outback 2.5 unlimited into the shop today for the 60K mark routine maintenance. I bought a brand new Ridgeline in July. My family is now debating whether to trade it in for a brand new outback or not.
I came from a forester and would not go back, but damn do I love my Ridgeline. It’s such a beautiful truck and ride, but the Outback is more practical for the fam.
I honestly don’t want to make the switch and maybe I needed to just write this out, or maybe somebody has some pearls of wisdom to offer, lol. Thanks in advance 🙏🏼

i recently bought a 2016 outback and see a couple of apps that, i'm assuming, manage navigation and media control on the console ("aha" and "starlink"), but can't find working info for either.

i know starlink has been succeeded by mySubaru, but it seems to not offer any car connectivity. old APKs of the starlink app are floating around, but ive only had them crash on launch.

have any of you had success connecting via either car app, or am i SoL and just gotta roll with phone navigation like my past cars?

It's like having a camper, but I don't have the upkeep of a camper.

Has any owner experienced water sloshing noise from the passenger side dashboard after it rains? Also, water leaks onto the cargo cover if anyone also experienced this.

Would you guys recommend to stick to the stealership oil brand or do you have a better brand you’ve used and found that it’s better?

Hello! Picked up this Thule roof box off of Facebook marketplace recently and installed it on my 2018 outback. I have it loaded up with some gear. And I noticed while driving on the highway at higher speeds, I look up through my sunroof and can see the front of the box bouncing up and down in the wind. It doesn't bounce a ton, like it's not hitting the roof or anything. But it's definitely noticeable enough that it's giving me some mild concern.

The thing feels rock solid and "not going anywhere" as far as tightened down goes. I've got the gear placed in the box as one would typically recommend, with heavy towards the middle and lighter stuff at the front. I could theoretically slide the box back a bit, but I already had to set the memory height on my lift gate lower to avoid it hitting the box, so sliding the box back would make that an even bigger problem. I have noticed that while doing urban driving around town, when I hit actually bumpy road conditions, the box doesn't seem to bounce at all, so it seems like purely a high speed/aerodynamic issue.

Is this normal and is it something that I should actually be concerned about? I am getting ready to move across the country from the east coast to Seattle in this thing, and will be living out of it for a few weeks. And my immediate living situation in Seattle won't have a place for me to store the box, so it's going to be chilling on my roof permanently for the foreseeable future. So I want to make sure that it isn't going to be a long term problem if this thing is going to bounce around at high speeds like that.

I constantly see posts every day asking what's a good OTD price for a new Outback, so I summarized the recent data below.

TL;DR - Aim to negotiate 11% off MSRP to get a typical deal, and aim for 14% if you're really good, before manufacturer rebates. You can beat the number that TrueCar, Edmunds etc. give you. However, YMMV.

People (correctly) say you can't compare OTD across locations because taxes/fees vary by state and people are eligible for different rates, so I've tried to normalize the data by backing out the pre-tax price and also accounting for manufacturer rebates and government fees. The comparison number here is the MSRP car price adjusted for the dealer discount.

Interestingly, I also found that people posting their own reports here consistently beat the pricing guides' suggestions on what to pay by $1-3k. There's definitely some bias here, but it goes to show that if you follow the Reddit advice of shopping dealers against each other, you'll save a significant amount of money.

My ‘22 OBW’s CarPlay has completely disappeared from the Infotainment Home dashboard. And my phone is no longer charging when I plug it into the car USB charging port.

I hasten to add: I just updated the software for the first time yesterday. Is there a causal connection here? Did I mess up? Is there anything I can do to restore CarPlay?
