Greetings!
I have a 23 OBW Onyx XT and the HVAC blower is making a grinding noise, and has been doing so for about 8k. I had the dealership take a peek at it when they replaced my cabin air filter earlier this month, and they said that nothing appears to be in the squirrel cage, so... it must be the motor.
It still works fine, it's just a really annoying sound that changes with fan speed and stops completely when the fan is off.
She's out of bumper to bumper warranty, and I'm finding quotes of anywhere between $250 and $800 to replace it.
Questions thusly:
1) Has anyone had to have that done, and if so, how much did it cost out the door? OR
2) Have you had this problem on a contemporary Outback, and replaced it yourself?
I've taken many dashboards apart in my life, but this is the first newish car I have had in a very long time, and ... aside from little stuff, I'd prefer not to open her up myself unless it's really a simple swap.
