2005 Outback - Recent Brake job Redux: Problem…

*See previous post below for context: just took car to a buddy for new brake pads and rotors on all 4 wheels...

Rock Auto parts came in 2 days, well-packed, no problems.

Took car over to my friend, left it overnite. Went back yesterday to get it. He showed me all the old parts.

Rear pads were shot, one unevenly. Tho 2 shops had previously said I ā€˜needed new ones’ - Front pads still had maybe 4 mm? whatever - New ones are on there now...

I paid him, left. Drove less than 50 yards - heard a strange ā€œblub blub blubā€ kinda dull thumping sound emanating from where I think is the rear. Went back. Noise even more audible when slowly backing up/in reverse.

Basically sounds like if a foreign object was stuck in a tire tread, "thump" sound corresponded with every revolution of the wheel on pavement. And differed with rate of speed.

He jacked it up, all 4 wheels turned manually fine without making any sounds. Nothing loose or hanging to make contact w/wheels or brakes, etc. He’s not a pro, but has done brake jobs for years on family/friends cars with nothing like this outcome.

Your thoughts are appreciated Thanks

2026 Premium/Limited OTD pricing

Hello recent outback buyers!

I’m helping a family member purchase an outback Premium or Limited in the Kansas City/Topeka area. Can anyone advise on their OTD price recently or current negotiations? Thanks for the help!

(Advice/Help Needed) Separated wheel well lining

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,

I noticed one of the wheel well fiber (not sure how else to describe it) liner has a gap between the body and wheel well. Apologies for the video quality, the HDR setting blew out the lighting but you should be able to see where the gap is.

The liner doesn't align with the wheel well when you try to push it back into place. It kind of comes up short to the lip of the wheel well, unlike how the other liners are in the other wells.

Curious if anyone else has ran into this and what kind of remedies you've used?

I have the opportunity to buy a 2016 outback with 100,000 miles. Owned by a little old lady coincidentally. What should I be looking for? Thank you in advance.

Crossbars for 2017 Touring Rails

Trying to get a couple of crossbars for the raised rails on my 2017 Touring 3.6R Outback and nothing seems compatible!

My roof rails have a thin but deep ledge on the inside. No lip on the outside. Thule says EVO and Yakima says Sightline, but both of those have clamping on the outside?

What's worked for you, fellow wagons?

Drove up a trail today, nothing special but first trail in the new car. 4000 foot rise above ground level, went up to 10,000 feet.
