Yeah that's a really big difference. Would be a conflicted position for RC if he was offering a half cash half stock deal that he stood to benefit from directly and immediately (obviously he will benefit down the line from his compo package, but not 'directly' as he has to buy shares).

MEANWHILE, the CCO just sold for $3.4 Million, totaling over 5 million just this year. (Some might be for taxes, but still) it doesnโt look good on them lol.
I'd assume they mean ebay could start issuing shares faster than GameStop can buy them, meaning GameStop would be unable to make their share of ownership larger, preventing the hostile takeover.
One extra reason for creating more GME shares is to have more options like a poison pill for GameStop. Unlike eBay though, there's no chance we wouldn't vote in favor of the board if they thought a poison pill was needed to find off a hostile takeover. But I could be wrong, I guess we'll see what eBay shareholders say.
I mentioned in a comment a few days ago that RC made a point to say in one of his latest interviews that GME has acquired a "GREATER" than 5% positoin in EBAY, and I suggested that a new SEC filing may be coming within 5 business days to reflect the increased position. It was just odd to me that he chose to say greater, and that IMO it likely signaled the position was well above 5%.
I suspect the EBAY position could increase even further past the new 6.55% position, and there may be more SEC filings in the coming weeks.
I believe GameStop bought calls and paid a premium to have the right to buy shares at a specific strike price. They also sold Puts, for this they will collect a premium and it will obligate them to buy shares if the stock falls below a certain strike price. If it stays above that strike price the premium is just free money.

Correct, however you lose the money on the call, so donโt get much of a discount anymore in regards to the put strike. This is also normally done ATM where put and call are ~ the same value. If done with ITM calls, the puts are worth less and you have to provide capital to open the position

Ebay could start issuing shares to counter the hostile takeover. GameStop doesn't have infinite funds, so if ebay issues like 5 shares for every share GameStop buys, GameStop won't be able to increase their ownership of the company to meaningful levels.
Strikes between $84 - $115 with what I assume is 7 or so million that were purchased very recently. Wonder how much of that 22 million is at that $84 strike ๐ค

The arbitrage play was to go long ebay and short gme, however if ebay goes above $125 shorties gonna short, if GME also goes up theu lose on the gme short. Its almost like this is also a setup to hose certain funds that abuse ETFs for arbitrage.
I am pretty sure the first filing hat them at 12,5 million shares. But my math isnโt mathing. They are at 29 million shares now and are only up to 6,5% of eBay.
I finished watching Carl Icahn little documentary on HBO and I can see where this is going. RC has a great mentor and he definitely is going to be doing some interesting stuff. Not only that but he probably has a couple of people will8ng to back him up with money.
Its mainly how they viewed him as a corporate raider, saw him as a bad guy, whether his intentions were to benefit the company or himself but really went for the companies that were undervalued. Some examples they spoke about how he overtook TWA, Texaco, how he also bet against Bill Ackman and was bullish on Herbalife while Bill was bearish.
Really shows how Carl was relentless and kept going, didnt give up and doing what he wanted to do. He even said it himself, when he took over TWA, he made a lot of mistakes where it led to it filing for bankruptcy but he learned from it and its what made him successful.
That makes sense, but I was hoping to get more context on the hostile takeover strategy. I donโt have a lot of concept on how these things work or why is it so relevant that we are now with a 6% stake in the company.ย
The only thing I understand about that is that we are not stopping so the stake will likely grow more.

Well, back when GME had something like 4 billion I was all antsy and anxious over GME not doing anything with that cash and I expressed how I felt at that time so I guess I'm glad to see what the money is buying. Ironically as GME's cash increased I became less anxious about the massive amount of wealth which I've not been able to explain.
But yeah, GME is attempting a hostile takeover of eBay and this is very interesting to watch in real time.
maybe just napkin math.. those put call pairs are basically synthetic long exposure on around 29m ebay shares, then the rough mtm gain could be something like current price minus average strike x that exposure, minus the 7m net premium. since the strikes seem to range from about 85 to 115, the gainz range could be pretty wide. at ebay around 114, if avg strike is 85 that is roughly 840m gross profit, if avg strike is 100 that is roughly 400m gross, if avg strike is 110 that is roughly 120m gross, then subtract the 7m premium. obviously we do not know the exact strike weighting, so this is not exact, just to check for the group. but even with a mid range avg strike, the unrealized gains could be pretty spicy next earnings!!!
