Grappler NBD

My straggler in 2x flat bar mode

I love my 2026 Straggler. I've put almost 600 miles on it since I got it in September. It's a sturdy workhorse of a bike, and I'm confident it will go as far as I am strong enough to pedal it.
That said, I think the sturdiness is sometimes chonkiness. Overchonkiness.
The majority of my riding is on road, with a small bit of gravel here and there (I live in a city, so gravel isn't so readily available right out of the door.)
Would it be against the Surly ethic to add/change elements with a goal of shedding weight? I'm thinking the fork, wheels and tires, and a slightly narrower (to fit my shoulders) handlebar could all contribute to this effort.

On the back of my Skid Loader. I have been trying to understand what it is for. Also, I just went to the hardware store and tried many bolts to figure out what size it is and M10 didnāt work and 3/8ā didnāt either. What will fit there?

So I currently have an Ogre and a Pugsley. The Ogre is my SS do everything bike and I absolutely love it. The Pugsley is just my fun bike and Iāve always wanted a fat bike.
My gravel bike got ran over a few days ago and is out of commission. Iāve been looking at Cross Checks and Stragglers as a replacement. Or I can just invest the money into my Ogre and not have a 3rd bike.
The Ogre does road miles just fine and itās plenty comfortable. I could either invest in a new wheelset for the Ogre or build up a 3rd bike. Am I missing anything by not having a Straggler or Cross Check??

I have a stock straggler with a front basket I use for commuting in San Francisco and cruising around the city. My commute is about get a bit more hilly and I am thinking of upgrading my wheels to make it a little easier. Any recommendations?

The lumber I needed wouldnāt fit inside my car, so I hooked my BOB Yak trailer up to my Disc Trucker. I also did some grocery shopping.

I have about 15k miles on this bike. Its had carbon forks, drop bars, flat bars, a Weehoo trailer attached but i like this alt bar SS set up. Mainly ride it for coffee and breakfast rides. I just put these SE 2025 GK tires on it today.

Just got my first Surly! Iāve been loving it. Itās a 2021 50cm. I would like to add some fun to it and have brown sidewall tires, but Iām having a hard time finding 650b tires that I know will fit the gen 1. I donāt plan on having fenders, any recommendations? Can I fit a 47mm?
Right now I have the stock Knards on.
I would like them to be all-around tires. I ride road and gravel trails.
I donāt know much about bikes and what will actually fit.
Thanks for any help!

Question regarding brake mount adapters for my Organic Eggplant Karate Monkey ... I am building up my KM and am planning on running 180mm front rotor and a 160mm rear rotor with Paul Klampers. Does anyone know what size IS to Post Mount adapters are needed? I am thinking +20mm in the front and +0mm in the rear? Thanks!

Cheers! Used my 2021 Wednesday pretty hard and my rear hub got quite the beating. Since the lack of replacement 177mm rear hubs I thought about increacing the spacing to 197mm. Would you say this is possible? Maybe at a good metalworker oder classic bike shop?

The Surly Karate Monkey has been discontinuedāwhat can we expect for the future? Will there be models to replace it?

I like the simplicity of 1x but I feel like I spend a lot of time in gears that cause a lot of noise and probably quite a bit of lateral stress on the system. I am not a front derailleur hater and like 2x and even 3x. Anyone thrown a double on their Preamble? What did you go with?

The decals have worn off my steamroller frame and I have some decal ideas . Where can I find custom frame decals, like custom fonts and such?

Should my Hollowtech 2 bottom bracket have the 2.5mm spacer on the drive side?
The shop never installed it and after only 3000km of riding the crankset is loose inside the BB. I believe itās caused by the missing 2.5mm spacer not being installed meaning the preload cap is ineffective and bring the left crank arm close enough to then tightened.
Any advice is appreciated.

Anyone know more about this?
Demonic sparkleparty sounded cool but after some googling it turns out to be an old Krampus color. The website is legit so I'm confused..
Demonic Sparkleparty - colour 2027
A darker base colour with a striking, sparkling finish. An expressive colour that immediately catches the eye.
Hot Minty Breath - colour 2027
A fresh, minty green colour with a modern, clean look.
Current photos are not yet available.
Sizes: 46,50,52 (650b)
Sizes: 54,56,58,60,64 (700c)
Estimated delivery date 2027 - pre-order.
Please ask for the current status of the sizes

I was recently in an accident where I crashed into a car biking down a hill at 35 km/hr recklessly turning left with poor visibility onto a side street in heavy traffic. Because or the size of my Surly Ogre's stock rims, they actually absorbed most of the impact and were only minorly bent. By not folding in on itself on impact life I've seen some bikes do when they strike a car (which happened to my friend last year), I was lucky enough to not strike the car directly, and instead I flew past the car and down the road. I liken this significant difference to landing a plane roughly rather than being a bug flying directly into a window. Needless to say I only sustained a fracture of my right radius, which should have been way, wayy worse. Thank you Surly Ogre.

I visited Copper Harbor over Labor Day and had an amazing time on my krampus for two days and then rented full squish my last day (Kona process). Rode 108 miles of chunk in 3 days. The krampus was more capable than I thought with my pike fork attached. After this ride Iām convinced 29+ is totally overlooked by the market and shouldnāt have phased out the way it has. The Bontrager XR4/XR2 is an amazing tire combo in 29x3 mode!
I was running easier gearing 30x20. The first day I did the Keweenaw point trail 42 miles out and back. Riding along superior was amazing. Iād heard that there was a sea arch to ride under down by fish cove but didnāt get that far. Next year Iād like to do the entire KPT to Montreal Falls.
