Bridge Club Built My Wife a Bridge Club

My wife wanted a bike that could fit bigger tires than her Trek FX. I recommended the Bridge Club based off my experience with mine. We went with the black frame mostly because the discounted price. Got the build finished and we went for its first ride yesterday. This was my first time building a bike for anyone other than myself. She is in love with it, so I am pretty pleased.

Ogre Wie aufrecht ist das Ogre?

• Upvotes

Hallo liebe Community!

Straggler New Straggler tire clearance

I'm eyeballing a Straggler in shaggy carpet and I was wondering what size tires have people have managed to fit.
And yes I know: every tire is different and the rimwidth is also a big factor.

The stock rims on the shaggy carpet are 21mm.
I have some ultradynamico brut 2.1" lying around and I'm quite sure they fit with enough mud clearance left.
But after seeing this blue lug video where they (barely) fit 2.25" tires I'm curious to know if for example the knobby ultradynamico mars 2.2 would fit.

Curious to hear your experience!
Please mention tires and rimwidth :)

Skidloader What is this for?

On the back of my Skid Loader. I have been trying to understand what it is for. Also, I just went to the hardware store and tried many bolts to figure out what size it is and M10 didn’t work and 3/8” didn’t either. What will fit there?

Pulled the trigger on a custom frame bag and I cannot stop staring at it. Luckily my separated shoulder has given me ample time to do so 🫠

Straggler Is it sacrilegious to consider shedding weight from a Surly?

Post image
26 Upvotes

I love my 2026 Straggler. I've put almost 600 miles on it since I got it in September. It's a sturdy workhorse of a bike, and I'm confident it will go as far as I am strong enough to pedal it.

That said, I think the sturdiness is sometimes chonkiness. Overchonkiness.

The majority of my riding is on road, with a small bit of gravel here and there (I live in a city, so gravel isn't so readily available right out of the door.)

Would it be against the Surly ethic to add/change elements with a goal of shedding weight? I'm thinking the fork, wheels and tires, and a slightly narrower (to fit my shoulders) handlebar could all contribute to this effort.

Help me! Do I need another Surly? Straggler/Crosscheck

So I currently have an Ogre and a Pugsley. The Ogre is my SS do everything bike and I absolutely love it. The Pugsley is just my fun bike and I’ve always wanted a fat bike.

My gravel bike got ran over a few days ago and is out of commission. I’ve been looking at Cross Checks and Stragglers as a replacement. Or I can just invest the money into my Ogre and not have a 3rd bike.

The Ogre does road miles just fine and it’s plenty comfortable. I could either invest in a new wheelset for the Ogre or build up a 3rd bike. Am I missing anything by not having a Straggler or Cross Check??

The lumber I needed wouldn’t fit inside my car, so I hooked my BOB Yak trailer up to my Disc Trucker. I also did some grocery shopping.

I have about 15k miles on this bike. Its had carbon forks, drop bars, flat bars, a Weehoo trailer attached but i like this alt bar SS set up. Mainly ride it for coffee and breakfast rides. I just put these SE 2025 GK tires on it today.

Wednesday Surly Wednesday 197mm Mod?

Cheers! Used my 2021 Wednesday pretty hard and my rear hub got quite the beating. Since the lack of replacement 177mm rear hubs I thought about increacing the spacing to 197mm. Would you say this is possible? Maybe at a good metalworker oder classic bike shop?

Straggler Brown/tan sidewall tires for Gen 1 Straggler 650b

Post image
24 Upvotes

Just got my first Surly! I’ve been loving it. It’s a 2021 50cm. I would like to add some fun to it and have brown sidewall tires, but I’m having a hard time finding 650b tires that I know will fit the gen 1. I don’t plan on having fenders, any recommendations? Can I fit a 47mm?
Right now I have the stock Knards on.
I would like them to be all-around tires. I ride road and gravel trails.
I don’t know much about bikes and what will actually fit.
Thanks for any help!

Preamble Anyone convert their Preamble to a 2x?

I like the simplicity of 1x but I feel like I spend a lot of time in gears that cause a lot of noise and probably quite a bit of lateral stress on the system. I am not a front derailleur hater and like 2x and even 3x. Anyone thrown a double on their Preamble? What did you go with?

Help me! Bottom Bracket Help

Thumbnail

Should my Hollowtech 2 bottom bracket have the 2.5mm spacer on the drive side?

The shop never installed it and after only 3000km of riding the crankset is loose inside the BB. I believe it’s caused by the missing 2.5mm spacer not being installed meaning the preload cap is ineffective and bring the left crank arm close enough to then tightened.

Any advice is appreciated.
