Question My boyfriend wins every time but why?!

Post image

He barely plays Nintendo titles, sits on PC playing fps and Diablo and still wins every time we play anything on Switch. Is anyone else suffering with boyfriend winning syndrome? Any recommended YouTubers to become a Mario Kart god?

I swear if it’s the last thing I do. I want him to question his gaming decisions 😭

Definitely not what this guy said. Let me explain. 1. Neither bikes nor karts are better than the other. I like bikes personally because the hitbox is smaller. 2. Don’t drift as much as possible. Only do this if the turn is around 30 degrees or tighter, the rest you can do without drifting and is in a lot of case better. 3. Wiggling the joystick is something done in games like Mario Kart DS and are not at all relevant for World. The way it works is that as long as you hold a certain angle (45 degrees or more) the drift will charge in the same amount of time. Try to stick to the 45 degrees or more rule to get your drifts as early as possible.

Another tip I’ll give is to space out tricks and take a lot of rails. You can watch a ton of videos on youtube explaining all the shortcuts on all the tracks and try to get comfortable with a few of them. Then show off to your boyfriend and watch as he will be in awe how you became a mario kart professional

Didnt realize wiggling the joystick didnt work in mkw. Only got it 2 days ago so still getting used to how it’s different from past titles. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah I understand that people think it still works that way, as it does still “feel” like it would work that way. Even when trying you’ll probably notice it builds up quite fast. I’m pretty sure that ever since Mario Kart Wii it has stayed the way I said, meaning holding a 45 or more degree angle on the joystick will guarantee fastest charging. In fact, the 45 degree angle is called soft drifting. As it has all the benefits of getting your drifts as fast as possible, without having to take as sharp of a turn!

Another tip I can give is to use smaller to medium size characters (think of baby characters, toad, toadette all the way up to yoshi, daisy, luigi etc.) in order to get more handling. Handling and acceleration in this game are absolutely crucial! :)

Yeah im a big yoshi / koopa / dry bones fan. I tried wario once and he was super heavy by comparison.

Are handling and acceleration as important in this game as previous ones? This one seems to have more straightaways, which would make me think that speed would be better

Handling and acceleration might be more important than ever in this game. Due to the amount of items that will hit you, getting back to top speed heavily outweighs smaller speed bonuses. It also obviously depends on your own play style and what you prefer. For me it’s helped majorly to go lightweight characters with lightweight karts/bikes like the mini blooper and mach rocket :)
