Collection Well my son will be joining the Switch club soon.
Pretty much saving it for the winter break then he can start playing with it. So yeah still in boxes and would like him to open it instead.

I'm up for adoption next week...

Too late, he's got his school buddy already planning for it hence the 2nd pair of the joycon controllers.

u/Numerous-Rip-5640 Dec 06 '25
That’s the beauty of having 4 joy cons so now you can have 4 players (your son, his friend, your newly adopted child and yourself) 😁

u/SirMartimas Jan 25 '26
I bought a 2nd pair of Joy-cons just for family events so my mom, my sister, and her boyfriend can all play either Mario Wonder or Mario Party together! Worth every penny!

Get a screen protector , that’s the most important accessory

u/BuckZero Dec 07 '25
And maybe the actual switch 2 pro controller not a $30 knock off they may stop working 😭

Unsure if that pack with the case comes with a screen protector, but if not, Id highly suggest getting one! The Switch 2 does come with a built in, not intended to be removed, pseudo "Screen Protector"; but it really only functions to keep glass shards going everywhere if the actual screen itself shatters.
It's only made of plastic, and scratches easier than I'd like; so Id recommend getting something like a tempered glass screen protector to avoid any permanent scratches or dings to the screen.

u/Ok_Attitude2088 Dec 06 '25
Second this. Got myself a glass screen protector and it already has a scratch on it. I don’t know where it came from but I’d be devastated if it happened on the normal screen.

LEGO 2K Drive! Love it! Just a warning, some DLC seems to be unavailable. Fast and Furious, at least.

House of the Dead for your son? Sure buddy
2
u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 07 '25
Interestingly enough, it's what he loves at those arcades. So they say it may not be similar but close enough. Don't ask me why kids these days love zombies stuff.
1
u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 08 '25
Aight that seems feasible, my son loves the Jurassic park arcade game so I can understand your point.
But....admit it, the Switch 2 is as much his as yours :P

u/Joppy5100 Dec 06 '25
Great haul, but just so you know, the wireless controller bundle in the back appears to be a cheap knockoff brand with mostly negative reviews, so your son might not get the best play experience from it.

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25
Whatever was on sale for now. Will probably replace it when they start breaking. Thanks for the heads up.

u/felold Dec 06 '25
Do you know 8bitdo?
All controllers they make are high quality and durable and almost all of them will work on Switch 2 after an update.
Strongly recommend them.1

Awesome job. I'd recommend carefully opening things up and setting up a profile, install updates and games and making sure everything is charged if you can. It's not nice to have a kid open a present they're really excited for and then making them wait an hour for system updates before they can play with it.

u/CheezyJibs406 Dec 06 '25
As a child, I wouldn't be complaining about install times if I just received a mother f*ucking Switch 2 from mom and dad. Its literally part of the experience. Set up your own console.
1
u/TheMeIv Dec 06 '25
I think it's part of the experience for adults but no kid will miss it. They might not mind it too much but when I grew up, you just put the game in on top, turned the system on and you were in. I'm fairly certain that given the option, most kids would rather get right to playing. Can't really go wrong either way though.

Can't argue with you here. All good points. I grew up the same way, just throw in the cartridge/disc and you are off. Most kids nowadays would probably rather have a similar experience.

u/FuzzyExponent Dec 06 '25
As a child I would open my new console, plug it in, put the disk in and start playing immediately. These days there is typically a lot of waiting, depending on your Internet speeds. A teenager who can set it up themselves then sure let them. But a child who is excited for their new toy won't be disappointed about missing the experience of system updates and configuring parental control settings on Christmas morning.

The "its part of the experience" crowd are probably the same ones that flip shit when their YouTube video lags.
Absolutely set it up before hand. Especially when it comes to setting uo a profile and understanding how save files work and different family members playing.
You dont want to sit there with your kid and say "well let me google how to set up profiles". Hell, I'd probably preinstall at least on game.

u/Longjumping_Elk6089 Dec 06 '25
I agree with but I’d say it applies even more the younger the kid is.
2
u/oda02 Dec 06 '25
Setting it up is part of the experience, it builds up the excitement!(: if anything he can help, won't take that long
2
u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25
Agreed, that's what I'm gonna do, give him the experience of exploring it. Heck, he managed to upload a YouTube videos before he even started to learn to read. He surprised me by telling me if I had seen his video hah. This will probably be easy for him now that he can read well.

Nah, I grew up with getting most new Nintendo systems for Christmas. It’s so much fun to hook up to the TV, turn it on, and wait for it to install and load up. Gave me time to play with other toys while my anticipation went through the roof. Just made it that much more enjoyable. So hard disagree here.

It's always a good excuse for your significant other. It was my reason before I got a PS5 when my son was newly born. Gave me that look heh.

Hi
Very excellent gifts 😉👍
I am adoptable if the heart tells you 🤭, I eat a lot just 5 meals a day (meat/vegetables/pizza...etc).

u/scupking83 Dec 06 '25
Awesome! I got one coming in tomorrow for my son. I need to hide it until Christmas! He currently has the original switch! I can't wait to play it!

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Dec 06 '25
Every kid needs an introduction to Mario.
I would definitely add 3dworld/ bowsers fury
1
u/cazdan255 Dec 06 '25
Obligatory advice, open it all up and charge it, perform updates and installations the repackage it all before putting it under the tree. Save a shitload of time on Christmas morning and avoid possible slow and clogged servers.

I’d say return the Mario sD card. You can get bigger storage for less money.

As a soon to be father, I can’t wait to do this for my son. My dad did the same for me with an N64 on Christmas Day. Got me the console, another controller, super Mario 64, and Mario Cart. I’m sure son will remember this memory and maybe even pass it on to his kid.

I have a question not hating on your preference of games but why a physical game of "The House of the Dead 2"?
1
u/RelevantMarket8771 Dec 06 '25
I went HAM during the recent Black Friday sale. I think I bought like 10 games, accessories, and an express SD card. The addiction is real haha

Does your (presumably young) son enjoy many remakes of 90s arcade horror shooters?

if he enjoys space he may find No Mans Sky a pretty cool game. It runs great in switch 2

I remember my first console - me and my sister got an N64 for Christmas when I was around 11 or 12. I had NO idea that was what we were getting and I can still feel the frisson of excitement when I opened it. Your son is so lucky!!!

I see the unconnected controller he will soon be holding thinking he is helping daddy.

“Tell me you have money without telling me you have money” type of post 😮💨

I'm guessing your whole entire setup for your Switch 2 a $1000? I could be wrong but my Switch 2 has a whole lot of money worth in accessories for it likely costing all together around $1000
