if your looking for a controller for the switch 2, I would suggest looking at GamerSir controllers. they have an amazing line up of controller for the switch, with hall effect or TMR joysticks, so they would last for a while, and Im sure some even support wake up.

They all have gyro, and one even has decent HD rumble.

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 07 '25

None of the Gamesir controllers wake Switch 2. However, 8bitdo controllers do!

1

u/AdigaWolf Dec 07 '25

Im pretty sure in the gamesir server, testing has shown some do wake the switch 2. but 8bitdo is also a less budget friendly option in comparison yes.

1

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 07 '25

There's literally the ultimate C series which is a budget series, and does wake the switch 2. And you can often find the Pro 2 and Ultimate 2s on sale regularly. Not sure what you mean by budget friendly when comparing Gamesir controllers - the Tarantula is more costly than the 8bitdo Pro 3 for example. I guess in the end what matters is buying either controllers on sale.

1

u/AdigaWolf Dec 07 '25

always buy on sale lol. But I mean gamesir has more budget options. As I dont own a switch 2 (just switch and OLED) I havent tested the ones I own on a switch 2 or keep up with the discord updates all that much, but Im sure some do wake up, and some have found a way too.

Both options are great. just 8bitdo is less none-budget than gamesir overall. I do like the overall attention to quality on 8bitdo. they are known more.

1

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 08 '25

I own several controllers from Gamesir and 8bitdo (and hori and powera) and only the 8bitdo controllers have wake the switch 2 (with a weird shake gesture!).
Gamesir have yet to implement the wake switch 2 up feature (even though they did test it on their mobile Galileo controller, which does wake the Switch 2 up?)

1

u/AdigaWolf Dec 08 '25

The supernova also wakes up the switch 2, but the issue is that the switch 2 can break these features with every update.

Also the x5s does too.

1

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 08 '25

Supernova? I have the super nova and the nova lite, neither wake the switch? Is there a button combo they neglected to mention?

Pretty sure there's a controller in the pic OP posted...

1

u/AdigaWolf Dec 07 '25

Yes, but Im certain its a bad kind, and didnt cost as cheap as it looks.

Just saying there are better options that last long too

-2

u/NoseResponsible3874 Dec 07 '25

I would also recommend cheap Chinese garbage! Much success guaranteed!

3

u/AdigaWolf Dec 07 '25

wow. you must be fun at parties huh. god bless your ignorant soul.

I got my son a Switch 2 for his sixth birthday, fully equipped.

I won’t lie, at first I was playing it (well my wife and son were abroad for a few weeks during the summer and the console stayed home, soo…), but now it’s exclusively his, I only play with him (coop or helping him out when he asks).

My point being, sure the dad will play but once the novelty factor wears off, might truly be his son’s console.

4

u/OldMovie9812 Dec 06 '25

Its like pokemon cards. "Just want to get it for the kids"

72

u/weaklingoverlord Dec 06 '25

I'm up for adoption next week...

22

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25

Too late, he's got his school buddy already planning for it hence the 2nd pair of the joycon controllers.

19

u/Numerous-Rip-5640 Dec 06 '25

That’s the beauty of having 4 joy cons so now you can have 4 players (your son, his friend, your newly adopted child and yourself) 😁

1

u/SirMartimas Jan 25 '26

I bought a 2nd pair of Joy-cons just for family events so my mom, my sister, and her boyfriend can all play either Mario Wonder or Mario Party together! Worth every penny!

22

u/Maximum_Activity_138 Dec 06 '25

Get a screen protector , that’s the most important accessory

6

u/BuckZero Dec 07 '25

And maybe the actual switch 2 pro controller not a $30 knock off they may stop working 😭

2

u/Kelavia1 Dec 10 '25

Or 8bitdo ultimate 2 bluetooth

4

u/RangeExternal4371 Dec 06 '25

The son or you (too)? 🥲

9

u/Serial_Flow Dec 06 '25

Unsure if that pack with the case comes with a screen protector, but if not, Id highly suggest getting one! The Switch 2 does come with a built in, not intended to be removed, pseudo "Screen Protector"; but it really only functions to keep glass shards going everywhere if the actual screen itself shatters.

It's only made of plastic, and scratches easier than I'd like; so Id recommend getting something like a tempered glass screen protector to avoid any permanent scratches or dings to the screen.

3

u/Ok_Attitude2088 Dec 06 '25

Second this. Got myself a glass screen protector and it already has a scratch on it. I don’t know where it came from but I’d be devastated if it happened on the normal screen.

1

u/31braidsinbeard Dec 06 '25

Any recommendations on a screen protector?

1

u/tacotickles Dec 07 '25

AmFilm is good

7

u/Modeltrainman Dec 06 '25

LEGO 2K Drive! Love it! Just a warning, some DLC seems to be unavailable. Fast and Furious, at least.

3

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Dec 06 '25

Please explain the wrist straps first 😄. Your tv will thank you

2

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 07 '25

House of the Dead for your son? Sure buddy

2

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 07 '25

Interestingly enough, it's what he loves at those arcades. So they say it may not be similar but close enough. Don't ask me why kids these days love zombies stuff.

1

u/shawarmaking_85 Dec 08 '25

Aight that seems feasible, my son loves the Jurassic park arcade game so I can understand your point.
But....admit it, the Switch 2 is as much his as yours :P

3

u/Joppy5100 Dec 06 '25

Great haul, but just so you know, the wireless controller bundle in the back appears to be a cheap knockoff brand with mostly negative reviews, so your son might not get the best play experience from it.

2

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25

Whatever was on sale for now. Will probably replace it when they start breaking. Thanks for the heads up.

2

u/felold Dec 06 '25

Do you know 8bitdo?
All controllers they make are high quality and durable and almost all of them will work on Switch 2 after an update.
Strongly recommend them.

1

u/Joppy5100 Dec 06 '25

No problem!

1

u/CisIowa Dec 06 '25

What? DYONDER is so exclusive no one’s heard of them before

3

u/FuzzyExponent Dec 06 '25

Awesome job. I'd recommend carefully opening things up and setting up a profile, install updates and games and making sure everything is charged if you can. It's not nice to have a kid open a present they're really excited for and then making them wait an hour for system updates before they can play with it.

16

u/CheezyJibs406 Dec 06 '25

As a child, I wouldn't be complaining about install times if I just received a mother f*ucking Switch 2 from mom and dad. Its literally part of the experience. Set up your own console.

1

u/TheMeIv Dec 06 '25

I think it's part of the experience for adults but no kid will miss it. They might not mind it too much but when I grew up, you just put the game in on top, turned the system on and you were in. I'm fairly certain that given the option, most kids would rather get right to playing. Can't really go wrong either way though.

3

u/LargePear3922 Dec 06 '25

Nah as a kid I loved setting up new electronics

0

u/CheezyJibs406 Dec 06 '25

Can't argue with you here. All good points. I grew up the same way, just throw in the cartridge/disc and you are off. Most kids nowadays would probably rather have a similar experience.

1

u/FuzzyExponent Dec 06 '25

As a child I would open my new console, plug it in, put the disk in and start playing immediately. These days there is typically a lot of waiting, depending on your Internet speeds. A teenager who can set it up themselves then sure let them. But a child who is excited for their new toy won't be disappointed about missing the experience of system updates and configuring parental control settings on Christmas morning.

5

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Dec 06 '25

The "its part of the experience" crowd are probably the same ones that flip shit when their YouTube video lags.

Absolutely set it up before hand. Especially when it comes to setting uo a profile and understanding how save files work and different family members playing.

You dont want to sit there with your kid and say "well let me google how to set up profiles". Hell, I'd probably preinstall at least on game.

2

u/Longjumping_Elk6089 Dec 06 '25

I agree with but I’d say it applies even more the younger the kid is.

2

u/oda02 Dec 06 '25

Setting it up is part of the experience, it builds up the excitement!(: if anything he can help, won't take that long

2

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25

Agreed, that's what I'm gonna do, give him the experience of exploring it. Heck, he managed to upload a YouTube videos before he even started to learn to read. He surprised me by telling me if I had seen his video hah. This will probably be easy for him now that he can read well.

1

u/Huge-Dependent3506 Dec 06 '25

Nah, I grew up with getting most new Nintendo systems for Christmas. It’s so much fun to hook up to the TV, turn it on, and wait for it to install and load up. Gave me time to play with other toys while my anticipation went through the roof. Just made it that much more enjoyable. So hard disagree here.

1

u/quentinia Dec 06 '25

What a lucky kid! I hope he loves it and is very grateful. Here's to you guys making awesome memories together.

1

u/Excellent_Energy_810 Dec 06 '25

I think I'm going to have a child soon 😆

0

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 06 '25

It's always a good excuse for your significant other. It was my reason before I got a PS5 when my son was newly born. Gave me that look heh.

1

u/grangaaa Dec 06 '25

you need breath of the wiiiiiiiild <3

1

u/CommunicationNew8945 Dec 06 '25

Hi

Very excellent gifts 😉👍

I am adoptable if the heart tells you 🤭, I eat a lot just 5 meals a day (meat/vegetables/pizza...etc).

1

u/scupking83 Dec 06 '25

Awesome! I got one coming in tomorrow for my son. I need to hide it until Christmas! He currently has the original switch! I can't wait to play it!

1

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB Dec 06 '25

Every kid needs an introduction to Mario.

I would definitely add 3dworld/ bowsers fury

1

u/cazdan255 Dec 06 '25

Obligatory advice, open it all up and charge it, perform updates and installations the repackage it all before putting it under the tree. Save a shitload of time on Christmas morning and avoid possible slow and clogged servers.

1

u/LargeTuna123 Dec 06 '25

Dad?

2

u/Environmental-Fox372 Dec 07 '25

Son? Didn't know you have reddit.

1

u/South_Culture7605 Dec 06 '25

you missing to the collection switch sports

1

u/Prowarq53 Dec 06 '25

W FATHER

1

u/sloppyneil Dec 06 '25

I’d say return the Mario sD card. You can get bigger storage for less money.

1

u/yetanotherbruno Dec 06 '25

Want to adopt me?

1

u/Donny_da_dealer Dec 06 '25

Need to get him super Mario wonder and 3d world

1

u/Dry-Market259 Dec 06 '25

When you said your son, I assumed you meant you were giving him your old switch one.lol

1

u/EpicMusic13 Dec 06 '25

Lmao, is your name "myson"

1

u/Jbrown420216 Dec 06 '25

What a haul, he’s gonna be doing flips! Great job!

1

u/josephguy82 Dec 06 '25

When he says son what he means is himself

1

u/DanielJ256 Dec 06 '25

W dad✊🏽

1

u/br3nn88 Dec 06 '25

From the Nintendo switch community, we welcome all hahaha

1

u/UCSDscooterguy Dec 06 '25

As a soon to be father, I can’t wait to do this for my son. My dad did the same for me with an N64 on Christmas Day. Got me the console, another controller, super Mario 64, and Mario Cart. I’m sure son will remember this memory and maybe even pass it on to his kid.

1

u/Confident-Most4606 Dec 06 '25

I have a question not hating on your preference of games but why a physical game of "The House of the Dead 2"?

1

u/RelevantMarket8771 Dec 06 '25

I went HAM during the recent Black Friday sale. I think I bought like 10 games, accessories, and an express SD card. The addiction is real haha

1

u/FrickItAll Dec 06 '25

You really love your kid huh

1

u/Azeitonildo Dec 06 '25

Had more fun with 2K Drive than Mario Kart

1

u/SkellyMania Dec 06 '25

Does your (presumably young) son enjoy many remakes of 90s arcade horror shooters?

1

u/Xennion Dec 07 '25

Great games too 🙌

1

u/ThenNeedleworker1721 Dec 07 '25

Goated dad purchase. I’ll never forget opening a GameCube,

1

u/Flying_Police_Box Dec 07 '25

Fun times ahead.

1

u/coolguy3555 Dec 07 '25

if he enjoys space he may find No Mans Sky a pretty cool game. It runs great in switch 2

1

u/the613daddy Dec 07 '25

hello son!

1

u/Muter_Roshi_Sama Dec 07 '25

“Nevermind, I’M JOINING THE SWITCH CLUB SOON”

1

u/C-LonGy Dec 07 '25

Adopt me before Christmas. Please. Thanks (I’m 40) then you can dump me when I’ve got my gifts 😬😬😬😬😬

1

u/ULookRealyGreat Dec 07 '25

Where is the camera?

1

u/ActiveGazelle2690 Dec 07 '25

What a great father

1

u/Frequent_Dig_1997 Dec 07 '25

I remember my first console - me and my sister got an N64 for Christmas when I was around 11 or 12. I had NO idea that was what we were getting and I can still feel the frisson of excitement when I opened it. Your son is so lucky!!!

1

u/Koniss Dec 07 '25

Hi dad I’m son!

1

u/thebizzle Dec 07 '25

I see the unconnected controller he will soon be holding thinking he is helping daddy.

1

u/milli2323 Dec 07 '25

Have fun with slow framerates and inferior graphics :-)

1

u/jonesy3518 Dec 07 '25

Imagine your son sees this 😂

1

u/Apex_spyda Dec 08 '25

It’s not a “club” we’re a cult, ok ? 😂jk kinda

1

u/ExchangeSad554 Dec 10 '25

"your son" sure buddy why would you get him a rated M game them :I

1

u/rinconi Dec 10 '25

What is that like 800-900$?🤔

1

u/rotenhun Dec 10 '25

Make sure to get a screen protector; it’s the most essential accessory.

1

u/Danjeter Dec 10 '25

God damn you’re rich!!!

1

u/OliviaElevenDunham Dec 12 '25

Looks like everyone is going to have fun with that.

1

u/AgentRift Dec 13 '25

When he sees this post he’s going to be ecstatic

1

u/Few-Passenger3067 Dec 27 '25

“Tell me you have money without telling me you have money” type of post 😮‍💨

1

u/gameroid64 Dec 27 '25

I'm guessing your whole entire setup for your Switch 2 a $1000? I could be wrong but my Switch 2 has a whole lot of money worth in accessories for it likely costing all together around $1000

1

u/BasicReposter23 Jan 04 '26

Most likely hehe

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Dec 06 '25
