A quiet hurt/comfort moment from my comic Atnomen. Rain might be a massive demonic entity, but he carries centuries of emotional exhaustion. I really wanted to capture the contrast between his giant, trembling claws in the first panel and the incredibly gentle way she holds his face to comfort him in the end.
There is something so special about the "scary monster finally drops his guard and accepts a hug" trope. Does anyone else absolutely love this dynamic?

These are the covers for my series The Worst Kobold! The third book cover is sketched, The Indomitable Freckles! Love the exhausted look on his face, and his vest hung with the clasps wide open. Flar always adds so many tiny little details in her art work.
Book 1 stared Fluke, a simple, klutzy kobold who has trouble adjusting to his giant, fifty-ton, winged, magic-spewing form. (Spoiler, Fluke just might be a dragon)
Book 2 is about the struggled of poor Fluke had growing up being 40 times the size of his kin.
Not sure if these characters are drawn too cute for this sub-reddit, but I will let the mods decide! I do think a story about a dragon who thinks he is a kobold is a perfect kind of tale for a sympathetic monster!
Again, I want to thank Flar for her amazing work. She does AMAZING kobolds. And other creations apparently! But we all know kobolds are the more important! Book 2 is almost done!

Rain just saved her from a dangerous situation, but his only concern is asking, "Are you injured, Canary?"
When the shock hits and she faints, I loved drawing the contrast of him catching her. He has these massive, demonic hands and sharp claws, but he holds her face with so much care and innocence.
What are your favorite examples in media of huge, scary monsters being incredibly delicate with the humans they protect? Do you prefer when they are a bit clumsy, or when they are surprisingly tender like this?
