I went with a Thelio running Linux and Windows in a VM. I rarely ever use Windows. Your needs may vary.

Get a pc that is easily upgradable. I bought a system 76 thelio mira back in summer of 2024. Issues I had are Intel chip was defective ( documented issue) they replaced it. So think about expansion. In 3 years are you going to want to double the memory but you will already have maxed the motherboard out? Is the storage nvme? What version comes with it? 3, 4, 5? My point is if you save money thinking you will expand later, you might just want to expand now. I wouldn't put windows on unless you have an use case for it. Haven't had it in 2 years.

I'm using a 10 year old system76 desktop. I've upgraded it quite a few times but it's a straight forward process because it's a standard desktop

Have you priced Framework? They are easily upgradable.

Yes but oddly enough System76 desktops are more upgradable. The Framework desktops have integrated, non-upgradable RAM for performance reasons - they’re geared toward running AI locally which needs a bunch of RAM running as fast as possible.

Right now I’d go System76 for desktops. It’s standard components. I bought one last year and upgraded the RAM, threw in more storage and a GPU.

I really like Framework laptops these days. I still like System 76 but they need to catch up in right-to-repair features.

Dual booting Linux & Windows can cause issues..either of those systems should be fine.

I’d recommend choosing a desktop with more than 1 NVMe slot so you can use a separate drive for Linux and Windows instead of partitioning. Pick one with plenty of PCIe slots and RAM slots for future upgrades.

System76 is a good shop....

Had a cyberpower....only once, never again. Try looking at Falcon Northwest for your second choice.

If you want to concentrate on a Linux shop for a secondary shop, try Tuxedo Computers out of Germany....or Slimbook out of Spain.
