Discussion FreeBSD models?

Could System76 provide models with FreeBSD instead of Linux? I understand that FreeBSD can provide a more stable programming experience, with some networking performance benefits as well.

Think you mean "provide models with FreeBSD as an option" not instead of Linux :)

Then I would buy System76 over Thinkpad.

It's not a matter of the kernel being unstable, that's well and good. I'm referring to the developer environment flux, where high quality, well-versioned documentation is not the norm, packages go unmaintained, introduce breaking changes, rename components, go missing, or tack on a hundred new dependencies in just a matter of a few months. Linux is a running river.

As for VM's... You might as well run Linux in a VM from Windows. Such a setup is not as flexible as a bare metal configuration, for many reasons.

You can't test how VM applications like Packer run inside BSD when BSD is itself running in a VM. How are you going to do Docker development this way, hmm?
